It's safe to say that cardmakers adore butterflies, whatever the occasion, they make a suitable motif to start your greeting off with. That's why we're celebrating the flying creature in this month's free gift! Create an array of beautiful cards and papercrafts using your 25 stamps, and dream up gorgeous butterflies made of various colours by layering different inks. Also included are press-out motifs and toppers, five coloured blanks, and you can even use the packaging, too!
Simple Tri-fold
Draw a faint line down the centre of a landscape blank. Stamp three butterflies, lining the bodies up with the pencil mark. Leave to dry before erasing. Open the card and score the centre line between the images. Cut around the right side of each butterfly, then crease. Trim the back and cut a small semi-circle tab in the centre of the right side. Fold the front of the card back and tuck into the tab. Glue glitter card behind the wing and decorate.
Layer Effect
Apply blue ink to the rose stamp and print a repeating pattern on card, rotating each time. Trim, then matt onto a darker shade. Glue to the centre of a blank. Stamp the butterfly body three times. Print wing edges on either side, then go over it with the wing vein in a different colour. Add the centres, then allow to dry before cutting out. Fix the butterflies using foam pads and add a sentiment.

Sweet & Simple
Pop out the purple topper from the sheet, then cut out the border left behind and coat with glitter. Attach onto a blank, then add dots around the inside. Take the pink butterfly topper and apply glitter around the entire border, then stick in the centre. Do the same with the outline of a blue one. Coat the yellow butterfly with glitter and attach both as shown.

Cover a cream landscape blank with kit packaging, trimmed to include a large motif in the top-left. Cut a spotted strip and matt onto pink card, leaving a narrow border. Glue across the bottom of the card. Add a sentiment die-cut onto pink card and cut out. Fix to the righthand side of the strip with foam pads. Add a pink side-on butterfly image beside the sentiment.

Accordion Design
Open a lilac blank and score 6cm in from the left edge, and 6cm in from the original crease. Concertina-fold to make three sections. Cover the front of each with card from the packaging. Stamp a sentiment onto cream card, then trim into a banner shape and fix across a circle die-cut panel. Glue to the edge of the centre section. Layer two pairs of glitter butterflies and fix to each remaining edge.

Craft a scene of
Chirpy Birds There’s nothing quite like watching the birds enjoying the blossoming trees to welcome in the summer months. Set upon a real branch, Claire Willis’ lifelike scene is sure to be a popular project for even the most inexperienced quiller and can work wonderfully on a wedding table, children’s bedroom or just scattered around your home.
Craft Clever Ensure the branch has been thoroughly dried before using it
Essentials... Quilling papers, 45cm: blue, cream, brown, yellow, green, white, black Quilling tool Quilling comb Small tree branch Adhesives
Quilled Bird
1
To make the bottom half of each bird, roll a coloured strip onto a quilling tool and quill the entire length with a firm tension, ensuring you don’t pull too tightly. As you reach the end, attach a second strip and continue to roll, keeping the coil level. Repeat until you have a tight coil of ten quilling papers rolled consecutively. Seal the end of the final strip down with glue. Remove the coil and tease into a shallow dish shape.
2
26 CW Birds.indd 2
3
Cover the inside of the dish shape with glue and set aside to dry. Make the bottom half of the bird in exactly the same way. Manipulate into a tall bowl shape, taking care as they could separate and fall apart. Cover the inside with glue. To make the wings, attach a light blue strip onto the bottom prong of a quilling comb by forming a small loop at the end, just big enough to fit over one bar. Loop from the bottom prong, up and over the second, then back to the bottom. Hold in place with glue, then pull up to the third prong and back down. Ensure each new section overlaps the previous slightly and glue each feather to the one before. Continue until the top prong; you will need more than one paper strip to complete the wing. Once all parts are dry, assemble them with glue. Add little details such as eyes, a beak and legs.

White Blossoms
1
Make a petal by quilling two white strips one after the other and sealing with glue, then form into a small teardop shape. Very slightly curve the petal, then cover with a thin layer of glue and set aside to dry. Make five petals and form them into flowers, then push yellow fringed paper into the centre of each. Create leaves in various sizes, nipping at opposite ends, then apply glue onto the back of each. Arrange the leaves around a tree branch, scattering and overlapping them. Add the white blossoms, then fix a little bird to finish. CB

hat an exciting time of year! Not only is the sunshine finally bursting forth and casting a radiant glow on all my crafting, but the wedding season is also starting to weave its magic. It's particularly special for me this time around, as my stepdaughter is getting married, and this is definitely having an effect on my creative projects. As well as selecting the fabric for the dress, I’ve been busy working on the invitations – in between everything else, of course! The Tattered Lace Romantique Collection is a real treat for those heartfelt messages that require dies with a difference. Why not try these gorgeous card ideas to help with any celebratory greetings you make?
Make Your Own...
This issue's Star Card brings together the Swing Lace Heart, True Loves and Ornamental Hearts die sets to create a greeting that captures the splendour of the happy day. For this, you need a red A4 card blank folded in half. Shape the centre of each half with Swing Mat. Using the Swing Lace Heart die set, cut white hearts from Swing Mat, Border and Mat 1. Prepare one red heart with Mat 1, then combine Mat 1 with Pattern in red. Layer and matt the die-cuts onto the main front. Using Ornamental Hearts, cut No 3 in white, stamp a Wedding Wishes sentiment into the centre, then mount onto the card. To finish, cut a couple from True Loves in white and tint with pens, then add to the card and embellish with pearls.
PRETTY IN PINK Create a blank, 20cm square. Using Large Hearts, create an easel with No 2. Cut one white and two patterned hearts, adding the coloured pair to the inside and front. Shape the white with Swing Lace Heart Border and layer. Cut one white and pattern with Mat 1, shape the white with Pattern, then mount. Use Hearts to cut No 3, stamp a sentiment and attach. Add a bow and embellish.
