Square Elf Card
1
From white card, create a blank, 15cm square. Trim patterned paper, 14cm square. Fix a length of festive ribbon along the bottom and tape to the reverse of the patterned square. Position onto the card front as shown. Print or trace the elf and sign templates onto thin white card. Colour in the motifs using ProMarker pens in red and green. Use the other colours to add shadowing and fill in the features following our photo as a guide. Cut out the elf motif, a red circle and the sign. Arrange on the card front using foam pads to add some height. Stamp mini snowflakes onto red and green card using a white ink-pad. Sprinkle with powder and hot emboss. Carefully cut out the circles and fix to the main card with foam pads. Finish with dots of white applied using a Posca pen.

Long Elf Card
1
Use the template provided to make a long red base card. Attach a strip of patterned paper, top and bottom. Trim a red panel, 7cm x 22cm, for the front. Make your own embossing template: take a scrap piece of mountboard and punch holes through it. Place on a light box and pop the red card on top. You should be able to see the holes through it. Use an embossing tool on the spots. Punch holes in the panel and thread green ribbon through. Add an elf, sign and snowflake circles as before.
2
Party Picks Print out and colour the mini elves. Paint the top of the bamboo sticks black and stick Christmas messages to the front. You can decorate the sticks with strips, but leave the point that goes into the mince pie unpainted. Glue the elves onto the sticks.
Candy Canes
1 7cm x 18cm. Measure
Cut a strip of mountboard,
down 15cm, score across, then measure another 1.5cm and score. Fold up to create the back board for the candy cane elf. Print out two copies of the templates, one on thin white card, the other on paper. Use the paper version for the Happy Christmas sentiment and fix along the bottom using a glue stick. Paper is easier to use as you can fold the excess under and glue it in place. Decorate and cut out the elf and elf name from the second copy printed onto cardstock. Add embossed snowflakes to the back board, glue on the elf and make two small holes either side of the candy cane. String through clear

onestopcraftshop.com One Stop Craft Shop is a familyrun store that specialises in card making, scrapbooking and general crafty items. They’ve shared a few of their favourite festive tips with us l Using double-sided adhesive sheets when die-cutting smaller motifs and sentiments is a time saver! Once you’ve got your shape, it can simply be peeled off the backing sheet and applied directly to card, without the mess of glue. l Embossing folders are a really easy way of adding texture and patterns to Christmas cards without being expensive. You can also create lots in one sitting –
just add different sentiments and embellishments to mix things up. l There is no such thing as too much sparkle when it comes to Christmas. If you don’t have any glittered paper to hand, make your own by colouring card with embossing ink. Sprinkle some powder on top and heat set. You now have your own glittered card!

Cutting
Guide
1 From grey felt: one pair of back pieces, one front, one pair of wings. 2 For the features: One beak and one pair of feet from orange felt. One head and chest from cream felt. 3 Each penguin uses 30cm of felt.
Making the Penguins
1 working with a 5mm seam With right sides together,
allowance, stitch together around the curved edges. Stitch the front piece to the straight edges of the back. Sew the dart at the base of the front piece; this will make it fit neatly round the egg. Turn to the right sides so the seam is in the inside. Cut off a slice the size of a two pence piece from the bottom of the egg, so that the penguin can stand up. Pull the felt cover over the egg; this takes a little coaxing, but it will slip on eventually. Tease all the seam allowances with a pin so they are smooth and lie in the same direction. The base of the body may have become a little distorted whilst pulling it, so trim it level with the bottom of the egg to ensure that the penguin sits upright. Position the wings on either side of the head with a little dab of glue. When dry, needle felt the joins at the top of the wings to blend them into the body piece. Glue the head and chest piece to the front of the body. This piece

3
also has a dart, but instead of sewing it, butt the two pieces together. Position over the dart on the front body, then fix the whole piece in place with glue. Tuck the felt feet under the penguin and glue in place. Using an iron, press a square of orange felt in half across the diagonal. Dab a little glue along the fold line, fixing it below the eyes to make a beak. Hold for a couple of seconds to ensure
4
that the glue has taken. Finally, stick the two googly eyes in place and add a bow. CB
