Cleethorpes Town has come a long way in its relatively short history. Initially formed in 1998 as Lincolnshire Soccer School, it was the brainchild of former Grimsby Town player Tommy Watson. The team was an immediate success with both boys and girls across every age group and the club began to grow quickly.

In 2003, the club set up a flagship senior team. In the team's first season within the Lincolnshire League they secured a credible fourth place finish for which the foundations for the future were set. Now rebranded Cleethorpes Town, the club has redeveloped into an important community outlet. With almost 30 teams competing at every level of local and regional football, the Owls are one of the largest clubs in the area and still continues to expand in all areas. The excellent array of teams and high quality coaching saw the club awarded with Football Association Charter Standard Community Club Status thus further underlining the clubs commitment to providing high quality football coaching alongside enjoyment for youngsters.

The development and evolution of Cleethorpes Town Football Club has been spearheaded by the first team. With the arrival of a new manager during the 2010-11 season it saw the club who were languishing in the lower echelons of the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League go on to finish the season in an amazing third place finish. In addition, the club collected the Supplementary Cup by defeating Heckington United in the final at Sincil Bank. 2011-12 season saw us not only become champions of the Lincs League but also the Challenge Cup winners. Additionally the club was accepted into the NCEL. Our first season in the league saw us finish fourth in the table with some impressive victories along the way. It was a steep learning curve for the players, management and staff.

The 2013-14 started with a change of management and Marcus Newell was brought in. The season started off at a medium pace but a long unbeaten streak mean the Owls were top of the league at christmas. However, we had a slow slow to the new year and fell 7 points behind with only a handful of games remaining. With the pressure at its highest, others around us felt it most and we managed to secure the title with one game to go.

The club is determined to make further strides to improve and fulfil their immediate ambition of becoming North East Lincolnshire's most successful lower league football club.

Both sides remained unchanged after the break as Albion sports restarted the game. It was Albion who had a great chance within the opening 30 seconds, as the Owls seemed to switch off. The ball pinged around the box, but eventually it fell to Delroy Facey but he swung and missed the ball completely however it then fell to James Grogan but his shot was blocked

by Coleman saving a certain goal.

The second half had barely got underway and Albion had another opportunity as Ferdinand Annor skewed a shot wide of the mark from 15 yards out.

The Owls never seemed to get off the mark in the opening minutes after the break and once more it was Albion who spurned two great chances in 30 seconds. It was in the 53rd minute as Danny Facey first saw his one-on-one shot blocked by Beattie then seconds later he completely missed the target from 18 yards with the Owls defenders scrambling backwards.

There was one final chance of the half and it fell to Oglesby however he headed over the bar after Luke Mascall did well on the wing to whip long cross in.

The Owls kept up the pressure and the high line and forced a corner 45 seconds later. From which, centre-back Matthew Coleman had a great chance to open the scoring but he headed just wide having rose above his marker.

The pressure was relieved a few minutes later as Oglesby tested the keeper’s skills from distance but he was more than equal to it on this occasion.

The Owls continued to press forward in this stage of the game and just as the hour mark elapsed Robertson managed to skew a shot wide after Oglesby had played a delicious cross-field ball to his fellow winger.

The Owls made their first substitution bringing on Jack Debnam and taking off Robertson in an attempt to mix things up. Just a few minutes later, the tired looking Grant was also replaced, by Chris Funnell, this time.

The changes made an immediate impact with Debnam and Funnell causing havoc as they tried to break the offside trap on many occasions.

With the game having only 15 minutes left, and Albion making two changes themselves, it was the visitors who where starting to have the better chances. In the 76th minute, Danny Facey was guilty of missing a sitter from inside the area.

The pressure was mounting, but it was the Owls on the up three minutes later as Oglesby went close from distance. It was then Funnell who saw his shot deflected wide after Debnam had held the ball up well and played it into his path.

With the final five minutes approaching, Richardson, Funnell and Debnam all had good chances but failed to hit the target on each occasions.

At the other end, Delroy Facey and Cusack also both came close to stealing the victory but the quality of finishing was lacking from both side.

The game looked like it was going to end 0-0, however both sides had a chance to win it at the end but only one took there’s. The first chance fell to Hanslip in the 92nd minute, Debnam played a diagonal ball in the path of Hanslip, who turned well but was stretching as he shot just inches wide of the mark.

At the other end, Beattie had to think quickly when Elam tried to curl a shot past the keeper but he had seen it early and leapt to palm the shot away to safety.

Only three minutes later, Elam was once again causing a nuisance as he tried to chip Beattie from just outside the area but the back peddling Beattie was just quick enough to grab the ball out of the night sky.

Cleethorpes Town fell to a narrow defeat this evening to Albion Sports in their first home NCEL Premier Division tie. A 94th minute penalty settled the tie after it looked like the points were shared. Alex Cusack was the man who took responsibility deep into injury who coolly slotted the ball past Owls keeper Brad Beattie.

The Owls made two changes to the starting line-up from their 6-2 win at the weekend over Liversedge. Lawrence Heward came in for the injured Lee McFarland (warm-up injury) and Jack Richardson replaced the unavailable Alex Flett.

Louis Grant, starting his second game of the season, was next on hand to test Albion’s keeper. He performed a pirouette with the ball, creating enough room to unleash a rasping effort from 20 yards but the keeper was more than equal to it.

The hosts kept putting pressure on Albion and had it not being for the defending of James Firth then Robertson would surely of scored with the goal at his mercy.

end as he lost possession in a dangerous area just outside the box to Elam but he could not produce anything magical as his shot was tame and straight at Beattie.

The ball was in the back of the net just three minutes later, but the joy was short lived as the linesman on the far side had his flag up for offside after an Oglesby cross was flicked on by top goal scorer Marc Cooper but Grant was in an advance position according to the official.

Grant was fouled 25 yards out moments later and it was Cooper who took aim after scoring two free kicks on Saturday.

However this one was off target and not in the back of the net like the other two was.

Elam was guilty of missing a great chance as the clock ticked over the 30 minute marker as he found himself inside the box, but his angled shot with the outside of the boot was wide of the mark with Beattie looking on helpless.

With only eight minutes of the half remaining tired legs were playing their part and Oglesby took full advantage of this as he travelled 40 yards with the ball but his skills on the way was not matched by his finish as it went wide of the mark.

Albion on the other hand started with two ex-professional players in the form of ex-Bolton, Hull City and Rotherham United striker Delroy Facey and veteran winger Lee Elam, formerly of Southport, Yeovil Town and Exeter City to name a few.

The match started out with the visitors penning the Owls inside their own half however it was the hosts who had the first real chance of the game. Jonathan Oglesby shot on sight from 25 yards but Albion’s keeper Arron Brian was on hand to save the shot.

The first chance for the visitors came with six minutes on the clock as Delroy Facey headed narrowly over the bar from a corner delivered from the right.

Our preparations for this game have gone well and after speaking with manager Marcus Newell, I am confident we will give a very good account of ourselves.

We started our NCEL Premier Division campaign away at Liversedge in West Yorkshire

last Saturday. We won that game 6-2 and in the end our fitness paid off.

I believe we deserved at least a point but thats what this level of football is like, you miss your chances and you will be punished in one way or another. However, we must move on now to today.

In the opening two games of the season we have not started the best. This needs improving on for sure, we still don't manage the games as we should.

Albion are a very good talented tam who have been successful over the last few seasons but we matched and outplayed them for long periods of the game.

Cleethorpes Town A FC played a very strong CGB Humbertherm FC on Tuesday night in what was only the second game since the teams formation, at Fulstow playing fields.

The starting 11 featured 9 players under the age of 22 and 6 under the age of 18 in a youthful looking side.

Grant Bailey made his first appearance for the team in goal with a back four of Sam Willett, Matt Russell, Tom Wingate and A debut for Danny Revill. George Hairns, Brad Mitchell and James Sawdon made their first appearances in

The game started at great pace with teams trying to play football and keep the ball down.

The football played in the first half was a joy to watch with some quality interplay creating a couple of half chances but on the whole the Owls kept the ball well.

In the second half CGB Humbertherm took the lead through Danny Trott with a quick-fire shot that found the bottom corner.

The Owls then pressed for the equaliser and carried

Page Sponsor on playing the football that again brought us chances with Ollie Kirton finding the bottom corner after some great work from George Hairns. His snap shot deceived the keeper and found the back of the net with 10 minutes of the game to go.

The Owls got their just deserves with just five minutes on the clock to go after some great build up play between Brad Mitchell and George Hairns. The ball found James Sawdon who with a 'Cruyff' turn spun his defender and smashed a right footed shot across the keeper into the bottom corner of the net.

The game was another great workout for the lads and the Owls would like too thank Geoff Broom and his lads and wish them luck for the forthcoming season.

Managers Mick Gibbons and Andy Cawte were pleased with how the lads are playing and are proud of the performance, attitudes and teamwork shown throughout .

Victoria Borrowash Victoria AFC was founded in the summer of 1911. Like many clubs of the time Borrowash did not start with a blaze of glory. Popular belief is that the only illumination for the inaugural meeting was the gas-lights of Elm Street.

However this wasn’t to put the fledgling members off. They secured a pitch, Coffee Joe’s Field, and changing facilities. Though opposing teams must have wondered at the mile and a half walk between the two.

From this modest start the club enjoyed a challenging future. Two World Wars halted play, but on each occasion the club reformed once peace returned. Off-field challenges saw the club disband and reform on three occasions. Despite all of this the will of the locals to have a football team represent their village remained unchecked. Maybe that is what makes the club motto so relevant ‘Palma

The present club commenced in 1963 when a group led by Tony Beardsley tired of the restrictions of the youth league.

With the support of Albert Anderton and Neville Hardy the new team started playing in the depths of Section E of the Derby Welfare League. The new team was christened, Borrowash Victoria Amateur Football Club, or simply “The Vics” to the locals.

Only three years later, and following early successes in both league and cup, the popularity of the club lead to the creation of a reserve team. One major difference back then was that the teams didn’t have a manager and it was not until January 1968 that the first manager was appointed, one Mr Arnold Grace. He led the team to promotion in his opening

season and developed the team’s standing tremendously until he left the club in 1968 due to ill health. Arnold did not however retire from The Vics entirely and returned as chairman in 1975.

No doubt it was that spirit that encouraged ex-international Alan Hinton to sign for the club in 1977, an event that saw the TV cameras at a Vics game for the first and only time. Incidentally, Alan was spotted by the cameras at the end of the game taking the nets down. I doubt any of us will see such a turn of events again.

The modern era of sponsorship finally reached Borrowash in time for the 1977/78 season, Mr P Siddall a local building contractor. In exchange for bearing Siddall’s name on the shirts, Mr Siddall provided funds and a concrete floor in the equipment hut. Ever practical at The Vics.

Midlands League Division One The 1977/78 season also provided the club’s first major championship, the East Midlands Regional League Premier Division. However things looked dicey at the end of the 1980/81 season with a mass of resignations from the committee.

As always The Vics pulled through and a face from today made his entrance to the stage. Ian Anderson turned from playing staff to president (and sponsor).

The most challenging episode in the recent history of the club also happened under Ian’s reign. In 1983 the club were threatened with expulsion from the league due to settlement of a drain below the pitch making it unplayable. In those circumstances many a club has folded but The Vics rolled up their sleeves, repaired the pitch for the remainder of the season before moving to their new and current home, The Bowl.

I received a phone call late one night before we played Hallam FC about joining the Owls, 24 hours later I knew I wanted to move...

Louis, you joined the Owls in January following a transfer from local rivals Grimsby Borough, how did the move come about?

I received a phone call about 11pm on the Friday night before we played Hallam at home and after the game I knew were I wanted I be.

Definitely up top. I don't mind playing anywhere as long as I'm playing but definitely up top if I had the choice.

Winning the league must of been great, tell me about the emotions you went through?

Obviously it was great winning the league. I had only been here since January but it was Do you like to train or do you prefer to be a great achievement from the lads. on the pitch kicking a ball about? How does work effect your training?

Marcus has had a successful time as the I don't mind training at all. The sessions are 'gaffer', why do you think this is? always good ones. I'm fortunate enough Marcus is great, a top top manager. work hasn't really affected my training or Definitely the best I have played for and all playing too much. the lads have a lot of respect for him.

So, take me back to the beginning, how did you first get into football?

I started playing from a young age, about two years old if I remember correctly and it kind of went from there.

What can we expect from The Owls this season, mid-table? Top 6? Promotion?

I'd like to say promotion again. There is a great squad here and all the lads want to play as high as we possibly can.

It took you a while to get scoring since your move, was it a relief to finally score (Even though we actually lost the game)?

Yes it was a big relief to get the goal but obviously results come first.

Lastly, 2 goals in 13 games hasn't been a great return, what can we expect from you this season?

No, a real poor return to be honest. One I was definitely ashamed of. But Ive been training since early June and feel confident that I can score goals at any level. My aim is to defiantly score a lot more goals than I did last year.

You played in various positions across the front line during the end of the season, what is this your preferred position?
