Cleethorpes Town has come a long way in its relatively short history. Initially formed in 1998 as Lincolnshire Soccer School, it was the brainchild of former Grimsby Town player Tommy Watson. The team was an immediate success with both boys and girls across every age group and the club began to grow quickly. In 2003, the club set up a flagship senior team. In the team's first season within the Lincolnshire League they secured a credible fourth place finish for which the foundations for the future were set. Now rebranded Cleethorpes Town, the club has redeveloped into an important community outlet. With almost 30 teams competing at every level of local and regional football, the Owls are one of the largest clubs in the area and still continues to expand in all areas. The excellent array of teams and high quality coaching saw the club awarded with Football Association Charter Standard Community Club Status thus further underlining the clubs commitment to providing high quality football coaching alongside enjoyment for youngsters. The development and evolution of Cleethorpes Town Football Club has been spearheaded by the first team. With the arrival of a new manager during the 2010-11 season it saw the club who were languishing in the lower echelons of the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League go on to finish the season in an amazing third place finish. In addition, the club collected the Supplementary Cup by defeating Heckington United in the final at Sincil Bank. 2011-12 season saw us not only become champions of the Lincs League but also the Challenge Cup winners. Additionally the club was accepted into the NCEL. Our first season in the league saw us finish fourth in the table with some impressive victories along the way. It was a steep learning curve for the players, management and staff. The 2013-14 started with a change of management and Marcus Newell was brought in. The season started off at a medium pace but a long unbeaten streak mean the Owls were top of the league at christmas. However, we had a slow slow to the new year and fell 7 points behind with only a handful of games remaining. With the pressure at its highest, others around us felt it most and we managed to secure the title with one game to go. The club is determined to make further strides to improve and fulfil their immediate ambition of becoming North East Lincolnshire's most successful lower league football club.

The first half ended as the clock struck 45 minutes and the Owls looked good for their lead and had wasted many good chances to be further in front. With both sides unchanged at the break, Parkgate kicked off the second half with near disastrous consequences. The Owls pressed forward immediate and won a corner on the right hand side. From this Cooper rose the highest but his header was wide of the mark with the goal gaping. It was then Grant in the 46th minute who had another chance but wasted his opportunity inside the box after a cheeky flicked deceived himself. Parkgate's keeper then was on hand to make a great saved from an Oglesby free kick, which was very similar to the one he scored in the first half.

This completed the scoring for the first half despite efforts from Robertson, Grant and a header from Lee McFarland. However none of these chances tested the young Pa r k g a t e k e e p e r. T h e v i s i t o r s themselves should have got a goal back in the 42nd minute but Beedham could not hit the target from inside the area.

The opening few minutes for the Owls showed just how good they can play, with free flowing football and the attacking style envied by most. This accumulated in two goals in two minutes as the Owls more than sealed the game with over 35 minutes left. Firstly, Grant was first on the ball to tap home from three yards after Oglesby beat his marker on the wing only to see his shot
rebound off the post and into Grants path. S e c o n d l y, Grant completed his hat-trick two minutes later when he tapped home a Oglesby cross from the left much to his delight. Grant was full of confidence and this was evident and he attempted a cheeky overhead kick inside the box from a Ro b e r t s o n c r o s s b u t h e caught a Parkgate defenders head rather than the ball. It should have been 6-0 just after the hour mark an Oglesby struck the woodwork of the second time in the game after Grant was fouled just outside the box. The visitors did have the ball in the back of the net in the 63rd minute however it was ruled out for offside, after Beedham had rounded the keeper and tapped home, as the referee has not seen the linesman raise his flag until the net was bulging. The scoring was complete the Owls in the 67th minute after Parkgate's keeper fumbled Mascall's 30 yards daisycutter into the back of his own net.

Cooper could only drag a shot wide of the mark from the edge of the area. Pa r k g a t e d i d n o t create much in the opening quarter of the game apart from testing Beattie from a floating corner but he had no issues in dealing with the cross.
Cleethorpes Town ran riot this evening as they thumped Rotherham side Parkgate 6-1. A hat-trick form Louis Grant, followed by goals from Jonathan Oglesby, an own goal and a Luke Mascall strike was enough to see the Owls over the winning line. Parkgate did manage to get a consolation goal but that’s all it was as Scott Whittington found the net with only 7 minutes left.

Grant nearly increased the lead in the 17th minute when he rounded the keeper but he could not get an early cross in as he ran the ball wide only for the keeper to scramble back and collect Grants cross. The chances kept on piling up, this time it was Cooper who failed to hit the target as Grant nodded down into the path of Cooper but his shooting boots were not on for this shot.

The visitors’ chances were been kept to a premium and should of equalised with 25 minutes gone as Luke Beedham could only shoot straight at Owls shot stopper Brad Beattie. Only one minute later, the Owls were celebrating the second goal of the game. This time it was Oglesby who found the back of the net from a 30-yard free kick. The ball was hit very sweetly with the outside of the right boot and it flew into the top corner of the net much to the delight of the players and fans.

Three further chances came quickly after the second goal. Jack Richardson had an effort from distance blocked, then Lawrence Heward's glancing header missed the target from point blank range then Grant saw his shot smartly saved. The pressure kept mounting on the Parkgate goal and it told when one of their defenders put the ball into his own net after Brody Robertson’s shot was parried onto the defenders leg and into the back of the net.
The Owls made one change to the starting line-up from their impressive 4-1 win in the FA Cup at the weekend against Borrowash Victoria. Lee McFarland came in for the unavailable Matthew Coleman. The game could not of started any better for the Owls, as they countered an opening attack from Parkgate, where Oglesby played in Grant with a delightful ball. Grant only had the keeper to beat and he duly did giving the Owls an early lead. The Owls kept pressing forward in the opening few minutes and could of nearly increased the lead with six minutes on the clock but

It was a very tough game at G r e s l e y. T h e y a r e a n established Evo-Stik side and looked especially good in the first half. They created several good chances and should of gone into the break with the lead. However they didn’t. We spoke to the lads at half time as they started the game slowly, and all credit to them, they took on board what was said and they looked a different side in the second half. We had a good go at them and could of nicked it at the end with a couple of great chances.

A changed line up from the previous game against Barnoldby FC saw us take the 3 points away from Te t n e y R o v e r s F C o n Saturday in what was a much better performance from a young Owls side against Tetney. The Owls settled into the game well and from early on set about playing some great football . After a great build up which saw us move the ball from right to left before working the ball into the area where a Tetney defender heading the ball into his own net after pressure from Renzie Lobendhan. Tetney equalised from a set piece when Tetney glanced a

Pretty much straight from kick off the Owls took the lead again through J a m e s Sawdon who hit a sweet 25 yard left foot volley into the roof of the net. It was a great response from the setback a minute earlier. The Owls went in 2-1 up at half time and deservedly so with us creating some great chances with debutant Sam Walker looking lively up top linking with Lobendhan, Cameron Donson and Sawdon supporting from out wide Brad Mitchell and Tom Furnell were winning the battle in midfield and keeping the ball moving. Dale Pratt and Andy Allott at full back were looking solid and offering us a lot going forward with Tom Wingate and Josh Williams combining well at the heart of the back four in front of Bailey.

Tetney then equalised after a great save from Bailey, a Tetney striker forced the ball over the line. As we continued to press we got our reward with another well worked goal which fell to Lobendhan who showed great feet before slotting the ball home. Bailey was forced into a couple of saves as the game went end too end with the Owls also having some chances to further our lead. The final whistle was blown to end the game 3-2 too the Owls. Managers Andy Cawte and Mick Gibbons were delighted with the performance and reaction after the first game with a well deserved 3 points. “Again we played some quality football and also put the work-rate in to secure the win.” The next game is Saturday 6th September against Champions North Somercoates FC 14:30 kick off .

G re sl e y F C BRODY ROBERTSON Gresley FC was formed in 2009 and enjoyed a very successful first season in the East Midlands Counties League. The side, managed by Gary Norton, finished as runners up and therefore narrowly missed out on promotion.
New Directors joined the club looking to turn the dream of moving to a new stadium into a reality. Manager Gary Norton and his assistant Martin Rowe invited Martyn Rowntree to step up from the reserves to become first team coach.
Gresley also enjoyed a long run in t h e FA Va s e b y b e a t i n g Spennymoor, Dawlish and Long B u c k b y. T h e D a w l i s h t i e i n particular will live long in the memory as the original tie was abandoned in extra time and the Moatmen won the replay in South Derbyshire on penalties. The Vase run came to an end in front of the home fans in disappointing fashion at home to Whitehawk in the quarter-finals.
2010-2011 Gresley's second season as a club and also their second in the East Midlands Counties League saw another good FA Vase run getting to the last 32 and then going one step further from the previous season by winning the league after an exciting run-in. Being a few points behind the leading contenders Gresley could not afford to slip up again after an unexpected home defeat in early January if their dreams were to be realised.

An amazing 20 game unbeaten run with the final 8 all victories saw Gresley crowned as champions and promoted into the Midland Football Alliance. Season 2011-2012 saw another good run in the FA Vase reaching the last 16 and to top off a superb season Gresley achieved a remarkable back-to-back title success as they lifted the Midland Football Alliance title at their first attempt and promotion to the Evo-Stik NPL Division One South. The first season back at level four was successful as Gresley settled into the Division One South. Gresley finished just outside the top ten in the league and reached the 3rd Qualifying round of the FA Cup. At the end of the season joint manager Gary Norton

Louis, How do you think this season has gone so far? The season has gone great so far obviously disappointed to lose to Albion last minute but apart from that we have made a solid start. The delight of breaking your duck this season was evident, tell me about the goal. Yes it was great to finally break it I think I've played well but strikers are judged on goals, it was obviously a great goal to start I remember it being clipped in the Chanel and cutting in on my left and just let fly was nice for it to hit the net. Why did you run over to the bench? Was that your plan or a spare of the moment thing? The feeling was great and I ran to the bench because Marcus has kept faith in me and really boosted my confidence so that was for him and the coaching staff. You then went on to score a hat trick against Parkgate, how pleased were you with that? It's always special to score a hat trick so was absolutely delighted. You have always backed your own ability even when others haven't, what have you got to say to your critics now your leading goalscorer? Yes I've always believed I will score goals just great to get them now and hopefully a lot

more, strikers are judged on goals so hopefully keep proving people wrong. We played Gresley on Saturday and it ended 0-0, was it a tough game? Yes it was a very tough game they came out the blocks and we were poor first half but felt we dominated the second half and maybe could of nicked it. What do you expect to see from Gresley this evening, the same approach from them it something different? I think Gresley will come with the same side that played Saturday and it will be a tough game. What keeps you motivated to keep plugging away and to keep trying? Desire to win, everyone in the team are born winners and we all put 100% in. Do you think a top 6 place is realistic or mid table? Definitely we just have to keep playing the way we are and who knows we're all really fit and want to finish as high as we can. Can you see us progressing into the next round? We are only 4 wins away from a potential meeting with Grimsby Town, wouldn't that be brilliant for the community? If we can play the way we can than I think we will win the game. It's a little bit off but yes it would be a great tie to play in and great for the community. Interviewed by Craig Kendall
