Explore Lectures

As you are aware, we are celebrating the value of Intellect this year. When we speak of ‘Intellect’, we strive to explore different spheres and topics beyond the curriculum – and just for the sheer joy of it.

Under this guise, we have organised a fabulous series of lectures on a vast and diverse range of topics to run throughout the rest of the academic year. Our eminent and exciting speakers will aim to stimulate curiosity and encourage us all (parents, friends, family and staff) to explore something new.

The lectures will take place on Monday or Tuesday evenings, starting in January. They will be held in the Sixth Form Lecture Theatre and are open to all, free of charge. Nibbles and drinks will be served from 5:30pm for a 6pm start and a 7pm finish.

This week in the Prep School

Year 3—Tremors

Last Friday, as part of our new topic 'Tremors', Year 3 went on a walk surveying the local area around the school. They had to assess how different types of rocks are used and take digital images to record their observations. We then made a photographic montage of ‘Rocks in our Environment’. Whilst they were walking around, the girls made notes describing what they had seen.

6JG—Class Assembly

Blue Peter made a visit to St Teresa’s in the form of 6JG’s assembly. The special Coronation edition included all the favourite features of the show, from ‘competition winners’ to ‘make your own crown, orb and sceptre’. It was a highly entertaining and informative assembly that created a perfect start to the coronation weekend.

Coronation Celebrations

To kick start our coronation celebrations, we enjoyed a delicious barbecue lunch complete with crowns, flags and even jewels! Thank you to Gary and his team for the wonderful food and to FOST for the decorations and crowns. We can’t wait for King Fest later on today……...

Year 5—Coronation Work

Year 5 have been researching the significance of the Crown Jewels in the coronation ceremony. They have found out fascinating facts about each of the precious pieces, as well as discovering how they will be used in tomorrow's coronation of Charles III. We have also been working on collages of King Charles - we think he would like how colourful we have made him!

Year 5—Chefs Adopt a School

Week 2 and the Year 5 chefs were back in action! This week, the girls learnt how to make a healthy salad - mixing up colours, tastes and textures and discussing which ingredients were best for a salad and why. The girls learnt safe chopping techniques from Chef Gary and realised how they could make their salads look very different depending on how they chopped their ingredients. As a finishing touch, they had the option to add a splash from a choice of oils. The salads looked amazing and we are sure they will taste delicious!

Year 3—Art Partnership

We were delighted to welcome Cranmore Year 3 boys to St Teresa’s for a collaborative event with our Year 3 girls. The children learnt about Matisse’s work and then created collages inspired by his ‘paint with scissors’ approach. They then put all the art work together as a giant, colourful collage to celebrate the Effingham Schools Trust Partnership! Well done everyone!

Sports News

Cricket

Well done to the U11A cricket team who took part in the Surrey Starburst Competition on Tuesday. It was great to see the girls back on the field and they showed some great teamwork and encouragement towards each other. The girls first match was against Downsend and with some great hits and fielding from both teams it was a tight game. Unfortunately, St Teresa’s couldn’t secure the win and lost by 10 runs. The next game was against Danes Hill. St Teresa’s had a smashing game and won! Well done to all the girls who played in the match, keep practising your bowling!

Tennis

On Wednesday, the St T’s tennis team took part in the Surrey Tennis Festival at St George’s. It was a lovely sunny day and all of the tennis pairs played really well together in some tough matches. Well done to the Peyton and Liliana for winning their age category. Well done to Rachel and Abi for just missing out on winning their category, the girls had a great day!

Pupil News

Amaya in Year 5 took part in the Annual Core Judo championships on Saturday and placed bronze in her weight category, narrowly missing the silver after a closely fought match.

Well done to Amaya and Coralie for competing in the IAPS National Judo championships, Amaya is now ranked 1st in the country and Coralie is ranked 2nd excellent work girls!

Both girls relish the sport and we look forward to hearing about their future successes!

Infant Music Festival

On Wednesday afternoon, we celebrated our annual Infant Music Festival in the Mairlot Hall to showcase the musical talents of the Year 1 and Year 2 children from Cranmore, St Christopher's and Glenesk schools. Each school sang two of their own choice of songs and then we collaborated as a mass choir to deliver a wonderful performance of ‘Country Sounds’. We even had a cameo appearance from the parents!

In addition to the vocal performances, we had some inspirational playing by our senior scholars which the children very much enjoyed. The Chamber Choir sang beautifully, and we received many wonderful compliments on their performance. The event was a resounding success with all the students performing amazingly well

A very big thank you too to Alana, who played her harp in the foyer and created the perfect musical ambiance as parents arrived and enjoyed their refreshments.

Singing Exam

Huge congratulations to Anna R who passed her Singing Grade 1 with merit – well done Anna!

We have some spaces for one-to-one lessons and have some instruments that can be hired from the school. If you would like to try out any instruments or need any more information, please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs Harris c.harris@st-teresas.com

This Week

May is a month traditionally dedicated to Mary, often referred to as Our Lady, the mother of Jesus. We marked the beginning of this time with our May Procession. It was wonderful to see the girls with a huge number of floral tributes that we used as part of our special service.

During the Service we reflected on Jesus’ first miracle. He and Mary were attending a marriage feast in the town of Cana. The celebrations were in jeopardy when the supply of wine dried up. Mary instructed the servants to ‘do whatever Jesus tells you to do.’ Jesus then told the servants to prepare huge jars of water that, when they drew some out, had miraculously been transformed into wine.

This account reminds us of why Mary is so important. While we honour Mary as the greatest of disciples, and as one who was uniquely graced to be worthy to bring God’s only Son into the world in

spend moments of prayer with her Son. One way that we can do this is to pray the Rosary. This beautiful traditional prayer reminds us of the journey of Mary’s life as a follower of Jesus, and inspires us to do the same. During the prayer, we ask Mary for her support. As a school community we prayed the Rosary together before the statue of Our Lady, asking for her support and guidance as we remembered those who are will, those parts of the world that need peace, and for all our personal, private intercession. Perhaps through the remainder of May we can continue to be inspired and supported by Mary’s great faith.

We hope that you have had a good week.

As the weather looks like it’s getting warmer, we just want to remind you that shoulders must be covered when riding and around the horses, and shorts are not to be worn during the clubs.

If there are any school trips or events that your daughter will be doing instead of riding, then please let the office know by phone or by email. As if you wish to cancel a lesson, we do require 48hrs notice or more in order to offer credit. Any later and we are unable to fill the slot with a rider for a catch up lesson or off the waitlist.

May Half Term

The half term dates are available to book! Have a look on our online site to book your spaces now!

The chiropractor came to do a treatment on Mouse and Charlie last Friday, they loved it and are feeling much better!

The new pony King has had a few lessons and is doing really well! He will gradually be introduced to more as he gets used to the new routine.

The ponies have also been moved to the summer fields and are loving the fresh grass!

The horse of the week is… Red!
