We have extra spaces available to attend the One Ocean workshops, you do not need to be an eco team member. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

If you have an interest in marine biology, conservation and microplastics this may be worthwhile; you can also add this to your UCAS application.

The next workshop is on Thursday at 13:30 in Room 35. There will be a further two workshops after half term.

Youth Debate

On the evening of 25th January, Georgina, Lucy and I took part in the Senior Rotary Debating competition, held at St John's School in Leatherhead. There were teams there from different schools such as Manor House and St John’s. Our proposed topic was 'Peaceful Protests are the most effective way to bring about a change.' Although we did not win, it was a great learning experience for us all, and we are looking forward to continuing with our Public Speaking.

Surrey University Visit

As part of the Year of Intellect, the Psychology department visited Surrey University on 30th January. Students were taken on a tour of the campus and listened to a range of fascinating lectures including how mild electrical brain stimulation can assist learners suffering from ADHD, how gut biomes can be engineered to inform the brain to release particular metabolites, the role of a clinical psychologist, how the brains of patients who hear voices react in the same way as they would if someone in the same room had spoken to them, and how developments in Virtual Reality can be used to help people suffering from phobias such as a fear of heights.

Students gained valuable insights into university life from the excellent student ambassadors, the differing style of lectures, and the cutting edge of psychological research.
