Thinking of Joining FOST?
FOST is always looking to increase its team size, especially with parents from Senior School, so we can do more in terms of events and improvements for our school community! Should you be interested in assisting on an ad hoc basis or joining the FOST committee, please get in touch via email fosteffingham@gmail.com; through an existing committee member; or a class representative.
Calling senior parents please!!
If there are any small groups of parents who are keen to volunteer and get involved on an ad hoc basis to run an event or two (eg a movie night, social or fun evening) for our senior school girls, please let Jo Clark (joannaclark121@gmail.com) know if you would be happy to volunteer.
We hope the school community enjoys the new wooden benches that have been placed by the Nelson Pavillion - they look fantastic!
School Uniform Shop

This Week
Jesus begins his teaching ministry in Matthew’s gospel with the Sermon on the Mount. He begins by setting out his manifesto for the values that will be evident within the Kingdom of God in that beautiful passage known as the Beatitudes. Significantly, each of the eight statements of the Beatitudes begin with the invitation to participate in the blessing associated with the kingdom that is ‘happiness.’ It is worth reflecting on what we mean by ‘happiness’ - What makes us truly happy? We will often refer to things that we imagine will bring us happiness. Three great examples might be a slice of delicious chocolate cake or perhaps a scoop of ice cream. Some treats even have the promise of happiness in their names - think, a Happy Meal for example. But there are two problems with these seeming sources of happiness. Firstly, the ‘happiness’ they offer is short-lived, and then, if we were to try and extend this happinesspresumably by partaking more frequently, the effect is more likely to be indigestion or poor health - the very opposite of happiness. True happiness should bring about a permanent change, and that happiness should grow the more we partake. The Beatitudes fulfil both of these requirements. They offer a vision of happiness that is both guaranteed and that promises to increase the more you engage. Whether as a peacemaker, through comforting the poor and those who mourn, meeting the needs of others, standing up for what is just and right, or facing the world with humility and mercy, Jesus’ revolutionary vision of the kingdom confronts the values of this world that so frequently looks only for the quick fix, and replaces it with a model of service to God and to our neighbour that not only brings happiness here and now, but enables us to partake in the building of his kingdom.
