SIXTH FORM NEWS
Last week two representatives of ‘The Schools Consent Project’ delivered a PSHE talk on and around the subject of consent. They discussed what constitutes giving consent and emphasised the importance of enthusiastic consent and paying attention to your partner to watch for signs of discomfort or fear. This is a rarely talked about subject and is essential for every young person to know. The lecture then moved on to the legal definition of ‘what is a crime and what is not’, in this context. We appreciated the talk; it was informative and thought provoking.

On Monday morning, the Head Girl Team presented their assembly on lost property and the importance of keeping your items together, labelling your items and being respectful of other people’s property. We had a lot of fun filming a video that featured a lonely, googly eyed sock and the Head Girl Team on a wild goose chase around the school, looking for lost property. We hope the school enjoyed the assembly and took away the key message to “Label it so you don’t lose it!”
This week, the Head Girl Team has also been very busy preparing for our annual Egg Rolling Competition! This is a tradition started by the nuns in which students decorate a hard-boiled egg and roll it down the St Teresa’s driveway, in a race to be the first egg over the finish line. The five best decorated eggs per year group will be chosen to be rolled, with the chance of winning a chocolate Easter egg. We are very excited to be hosting it this year - more details can be found on the poster emailed out to the school earlier this week. Don’t forget to decorate an egg at home and bring it down to the Sixth Form Centre on Thursday 30th March to be entered into the competition!
This week the Chaplaincy Team has tasked each year group with collecting an item for the food bank, such as shampoo and toothpaste, and the Sixth Form have been asked to donate sanitary products. We are very grateful for all the donations so far and look forward to collecting more.

On Friday, we are having our second annual Sixth Form retreat day, with 2 hours off timetable to stop, reflect and pray. We are pleased to be welcoming Dr Maureen Glackin, the general secretary of CISC (the Catholic Independent Schools’ Conference) representing every Catholic independent school in the country. Prior to this post, Dr Glackin was the head of the School of Education at St Mary's University Twickenham. She is deeply committed to Catholic education and ensuring the best opportunities for all students in our schools. We look forward to an inspiring afternoon from one of the leading female Catholic leaders of the country and the Head Girl Team, Senior Prefect Team and Chaplaincy Prefect are looking forward to having lunch with her beforehand.
Have a great last week of term!

BOARDING NEWS
This weekend we went to Guildford Spectrum to ice skate. The girls had a great time skating and taking loads of pictures on the ice. It was a little chilly but lots of fun. On Sunday we went for a walk on Ranmore Common. There is a lovely coffee van up there and the view is beautiful which the girls used for even more pictures This weekend we are off to Westfield at the girls’ request!
WORLD SCHOLAR’S CUP
The WSC programme is a celebration of learning. Students study an interesting and contemporary curriculum. They then compete in teams of 3 against other schools in 4 different events - team debate, collaborative writing, scholars' challenge and scholars' bowl. We entered 5 teams from St Teresa's and Cranmore from Years 7-9 for the competition.
We hosted 10 schools from across the home counties and even an international school from Geneva, Switzerland.
All our teams qualified for the global round. The Year 9 team of Isabel C, Katy H and Daisy S came 2nd overall in the junior division. Isabel was the top scorer in the junior division team debate event and her skills were displayed during the showcase debate.
PSHE CONSENT LESSON
On Monday afternoon, Year 8s from both St Teresa's and Cranmore had a joint lesson on They developed their knowledge following on from the Schools Consent Project workshops. They learnt about the law of consent and discussed key terminology. Working in groups, they gave advice to characters in real life scenarios.
MED SOC NEWS
On Tuesday, the members of MedSoc were fortunate enough to have a guest speaker, Dr Margot Nicholls, to speak to us about her role in health protection and public health. We learnt about her career pathway, from medical school to general practice, then accident and emergency and finally into public health. It was interesting to understand the wide-ranging responsibilities covered in her current role, including the number of different diseases she is a point of contact for, such as whooping cough and jaundice. We all came away having learnt much more about this specific area of medicine.
KILIMANJARO CLIMB
Summer successfully completed the climb of Kilimanjaro (the world’s tallest freestanding mountain). She succeeded despite -15c temperatures (-30c with the windchill), 8 days of living in a tent, catching a cold, a final 10 hour final ascent/descent starting at midnight, snow, hail, rain, getting altitude sickness at 5,200m and vomiting the rest of the way. She also raised over £1,700 for the Comic Relief appeal at the same time.
Well done Summer!

This Week
In Chapel this week we reflected on the account of Jesus healing the blind man (John 9). As the man is restored, so Jesus’ opponents are thrown into confusion. Suddenly, they are the ones who are unable to see clearly. This reminds us that during this season of Lent, we are called to see ourselves with greater clarity.
We are called to recognise that we are often blind to the needs of those around us. We are called anew to recognise the needs of our neighbours and to reach out in compassion to them, to alleviate their distress and bring them back into a community of love. (See our projects below for two great opportunities).
We are called to recognise the prejudices and negative attitudes in our lives. We are called to honestly reflect on how we misjudge and exclude groups and individuals because of our distorted views about them. We are called to recognise the dignity of every single human person, without exception. And perhaps hardest of all, we are called to recognise those faults, mistakes and sins in ourselves. We are called to acknowledge that we all too easily fall into the trap of criticising others for their actions, without first recognising the errors, sometimes great errors, that we have made.
We pray that in this season of Lent, our sight would be restored!

There have been a couple of equine virus outbreaks in the area. Those who have their own horses or who ride elsewhere, please make sure you wear a different set of clothes and wash your hands before coming to equestrian.
Roxy and Mouse had physio last Saturday and really enjoyed it! On Monday, Charlie had a saddler visit to readjust his saddles, and the rest of the horses had a visit from the saddler on Friday.
It is important the horses’ saddles and backs are checked to make sure that they aren’t in any pain or discomfort when they are ridden.
The horse of the week is… Wizard!
