Cornbread Loaf
Recipe by: Alyssa, our Crowfoot Bakery ManagerIntroducing our take on a BBQ classic, a little sweet and a little savoury, a homestyle loaf recipe with a Crave-o-licious twist. We’ve added a honey buttercream on top for that perfect hit of sweetness.
INGREDIENTS
1 ½ cups or 188 g flour
2/3 cup or 100 g cornmeal
2/3 cup or 125 g sugar
1 Tablespoon baking powder
2/3 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup or 70 g butter, melted
1/3 cup or 61 g oil
2 eggs
¾ cup or 189 g milk
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 container of Crave
Vanilla Buttercream
3 Tablespoons of liquid honey
DIRECTIONS
1 Preheat the oven to 330°F. Measure the dry ingredients into a medium size bowl and mix well.
2 Measure the wet ingredients into another medium size bowl. Using a hand mixer, mix well on low speed.
3 With a hand mixer on low speed, slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients until they are just absorbed.
4 Scrape the mixing bowl and continue to mix for 1 minute until a smooth batter forms.
5 Bake for 45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool before icing.
6 Follow the preparation instructions on the buttercream container and mix in the honey.
7 Using a spatula, spread the buttercream along the top of the loaf and drizzle with extra honey (optional). Cut the loaf into 10, ¾ inch slices.
CRAVE TIP:
Let your guests choose their own dessert adventure by cutting your loaf into slices and serving buttercream on the side. Whether they like a little or a lot, your guests can choose the amount of buttercream they’d like to spread on their slice Serve it up on a tray and it’ll also make a beautiful visual addition to your dessert table!

MEET THE FAM
To celebrate Father’s Day, we sat down with Chris, husband to Jodi, and Tony, husband to Carolyne, to hear about their thoughts on fatherhood, and of coursetheir favourite Crave treats.
TONY
Carolyne and Tony met in Jr. High School, have been married for 21 years, and have a son named Oliver. The two of them came across what is now our Kensington location on a bike ride together, and it was Tony who encouraged Carolyne to start her own business.
Q. What was it like coming across the Kensington location on your bike ride with Carolyne?
A. While I don’t remember a lot from that ride, I remember the “For Lease” sign being on the door. It was actually an internet Cafe - those don’t exist anymore!
Q: What do you like best about being a Dad?
A: Overall, it's rewarding to watch your kid grow and achieve.
Q: What are your favourite things to do with Oliver?
A: We like to do anything that gets us outdoors - from skiing, to biking, to hiking or back country camping!
Q: What is your go to Crave treat?
A: I like the cookies - they’re the best! My favourite on the menu right now is the Triple Chocolate.
Q: What was your reaction when Carolyne told you about her plan to start Crave?
A: She had been debating opening her own business to bake full time, or pursuing a law degree. When she decided to pursue baking, I was happy she was doing what makes her happy.
CHRIS
Jodi and Chris met have been married for 20 years, and have two sons Mac and Griffen. When Jodi and Carolyne started Crave, Chris actually worked as their controller and helped with building the Aspen, Crowfoot, Edmonton and Saskatoon locations!
Q: What was your reaction when Jodi told you about her and Carolyne’s plan to start Crave?
A: I was thrilled for the two of them, because I knew Jodi and Carolyne were excited to start a new business together. They were smiling from ear to ear.
Q: Tell us your favourite part about being a Dad.
A: Having them, raising them, getting to hang out with them - everything about being with my kids is my favourite.
"We like to do anything that gets us outdoorsfrom skiing, to biking, to hiking or back country camping!"
- Tony
Q: What have your learned from your two sons, Mac and Griffen?
A: I’ve learned there's more than one way to do something. There’s three ways - including mine!
Q: Any advice or wisdom you’d pass along to new dads?
A: I would say to take it day by day. Don't presume you'll know everything and let your experiences guide your next decision.
Q: What is your go to Crave treat?
A: The Twix bar, but if I have to pick a cupcake, I'll take a Red Velvet cupcake any day… followed closely by Coconut Vanilla.
