of the upgrades and improvements that are made at the Club reflect necessity due to the age of our 1954 facility, we always have an ear to the ground listening to our Members and putting a high priority on their wants and needs. Many Members are leaning toward a healthier lifestyle so our Chef has introduced a new dinner menu with multiple vegan options. Because we have so many wine lovers, we have introduced interactive wine

Tennis Members needed alternative options for play, so our Director of Tennis is introducing new clinics and instruction based on the recent tennis survey. Golf now sends regular course updates via email and text when weather inhibits play so Members can plan in advance. Even our adjacent newsfeed is in response to addressing Member’s questions. These are small things that add up. We are here to make your time at the Club the best part of your day. Adding value to every moment is a part of our H.O.M.E. motto.

sent out a tennis survey to get Member’s thoughts as to how we can improve and better serve your needs and received lots of helpful responses! Members are loving the Live Ball clinics so we will work on developing those clinics as well as more evening programs and fun activities. And since tennis is such a social sport, we are looking into how we can create a more recreational atmosphere at the courts. We are looking into a dedicated opt in/opt out monthly tennis email with specific info for players. Always remember that this is your club and we are always open to suggestions. You don’t have to wait for a survey. If you missed the last one, feel free to stop by the Tennis Shop and give us your thoughts! Thanksgiving Day Round Robin Participants, November 22 ➤

March mark the height of the golf season, so here are a few tips to help make your golf experience smooth: • Please give all of the names of the Members and guests when making your golf reservation. This helps the staff prepare the golf bags and carts for you. • Please check-in to the Golf Shop as soon as practical, so we know your group is here. • Please be ready at the first tee at least 5 minutes ahead of your scheduled time. Every group that is late moves the next time back and this is discourteous to other Members. • Play “ready golf ” whenever possible. If each person hits their shot when “ready” instead of when they have honors your group can save several minutes each hole. (This should be agreed upon by your group prior to play due to possible match play rules issues.) • Please do not proceed to the 10th tee to start play without consulting with the starter or Golf Shop first. It is imperative that we know

Repairing ball marks isn’t just important for the health of the greens, and for smoothrolling putts. It isn’t just a matter of etiquette. It is our obligation to help take care of the golf courses we play. Here’s why it’s important to repair your ball marks on the green: WGA Member-Member, November 27, Coral Ridge Flight: Laida Kearney & Alice Kramer
• A fresh ball mark repaired by a player takes only 5 SECONDS • A freshly repaired ball mark will completely heal in 24 HOURS • A fresh ball mark left unrepaired for only one hour requires 15 DAYS HOLE-IN-ONE

Respecting your Course & Fellow Golfers Excessive cart traffic can have a detrimental effect on the quality of the playing surfaces as shown above. To reduce the inevitable damage caused by golf carts, golfers should always keep the following in mind when playing: 1 Golf carts should be parked on the cart paths around tees and greens at all times. Parking them on the edges of the path, on the tee box, or too close to the green as shown in the above pictures is misuse and poor course etiquette.

ment is one of the longest running in women’s amateur golf and has hosted numerous golf greats like Patty Berg, JoAnne Carner, and Babe Zaharias, pros Natalie Gulbis, Michelle McGann, and Lexi Thompson, as well as several CRCC Members including Connie Shorb, Sis Ertley, Mary Contantino, Marianne Weber, Elle Nachmann and Andrea Kraus. Ted Kroll, winner of eight PGA Tour events, was honored at the course at the 1957 Ted Kroll Day. The first known notable tour-
Ted Kroll Day, 1957
A highlight of the 60’s, an exhibition match that Member Jack Drury organized for the local Boys Club brought Arnold Palmer, Sam Snead, Perry Como and Chuck Connors (aka Rifleman!) in March Chuck Connors and 1968 for a day of fun Perry Como did not exactly see eye to eye at the Boys and excitement. Since then presi- Club Benefit dents, pros and sports notables have played the course to experience the same risk and reward that our Members enjoy daily. ➤
Country Club opened, golf enthusiasts, amateurs and pros have flocked to the prestigious Championship 18 to experience one of Robert Trent Jones finest architectural achievements and the course he called home. Hundreds of tournaments, both charity and amateur, have chosen the course for hosting throughout the years. It was said of the course features in 1954, “Coral Ridge will be somewhere in between, following broadly the principles of Augusta National and Peachtree in Georgia which Jones feel are ideal for the way they have adapted to both club member play and championship play.” Jones…“has a knack of designing courses that look natural, are fun to play, judiciously punish bad shots and reward the good ones and, while providing a stiff test for the experts, do not break the back or the spirit of the average golfer.”* Perhaps it is one of the keys to why golfers are drawn to this course. It was built to be challenging and downright fun for everyone. The Doherty Women’s Amateur Tournament moved from the Biltmore in Miami to CRCC in 1956 at the suggestion of Ione Jones and was aptly co-named for her. The tourna-

nament at the newly opened course drew hundreds of spectators along with pro golfer Bob Toski and ushered in the likes of other well-known golfers of the day like the very young Jack Nicklaus and Julius Boros, Club Member, neighbor, AND winner of 18 PGA tour events. Woody Woodbury, TV comedian was often an announcer at events such as the Cancer Tournament Benefit in 1962 while Lew Worsham, six time PGA tour event winner and Golf Hall of Famer, presided as the CRCC Pro in 1964.
Currently, our Members are looking forward to the spring Women’s and Men’s Member-Guest tournaments, each with its own format. The competition is stiff, the camaraderie genuine and the awards coveted (look for new ones this year!). Each of these unique events are revered as one of the premier events to play at Coral Ridge, played at a time of year where the course is in top shape. The popular Women’s Member-Guest features 2-woman teams playing 36-holes in a better ball stroke play format. Teams are flighted with (14) teams playing a gross and net competition. Teams are re-paired within flight after every nine holes played. This themed event attracts a sell-out field of 112 players annually.

Julius Boros was presented the Golden "Tee" to the city by Fort Lauderdale Mayor, Cy Young, after being named "Golfer of the Year" in 1963.
The Men’s Member-Guest features 2-man teams playing 45-holes in a better ball match play format. Teams are flighted with six teams playing five 9-hole matches, one against every other team in their flight. The popularity has grown so much so, that in 2019, the Club added a second men’s event, which has allowed more Members to participate and is also sold out. Each championship holds an amazing awards ceremony where the champions are crowned. Here, here! Long live the Member-Guest and the challenge of the Championship 18!

Club Event Reservation Policy
Wednesday-Friday 5:30 - 8 pm
Special club events, wine dinners, Saturday night seafood buffets and holiday dining are popular events that sell out and require the purchase of special food and beverage products, equipment, entertainment, etc. Last minute un-replaced cancellations (including changes to the party number) are unfair to those Members who are turned away due to full capacity and cause the Club to incur unnecessary expenses if the reservation is not replaced. As a result, the Club must exercise a firm enforcement of the special event and holiday dining policy. • At the time of making your reservation we will charge your account 100% of the event price. • Please let us know if you have other Members dining with you, so we may contact them. • You may cancel 7 days prior to event, without being charged. • If you cancel less than 7 days prior to the event, you will have to pay 100% of the event price. Note: Should there be a wait list and we are able to fill your reservation less than 6 days prior to the event, your account will be credited in full.
