Catching our Breath IN COMPARISON TO THE SUMMERS
of 2020 & 2021, we are all feeling like we can inhale deeply and appreciate the good place we are in. We have just had the most wonderful season of golf, tennis and social events and Members have so many good things to say. Queried recently, even our communications are hitting the mark. 94% of our Members feel they are getting just the right amount of emails from the Club and
they like the amount of length and content. The overwhelming majority get their news from our emails, but many still like reading our Club Life Newsletter. Thank you to those who made some great observations and have given us new ideas of ways to communicate via email, on the website or on the app. We loved hearing from you and are always looking for ways we can improve, and that starts with listening!
Proud to Include Player Comments from US Open Qualifier on April 25

– Ryan Fountain from the Bears Club
“Your golf course was awesome…thank you very much for hosting us” – Dean Greyserman

has a lot to be proud of with its ladies’ tennis leagues. With 14 teams in 3 different leagues (Iola McCoy Women’s Tennis League, Broward Women’s League and East Coast Tennis League), participation was at an all-time high this year with more than 200 club members playing. Our league players competed against clubs from all across Broward County, playing in home and away matches from Weston to
Parkland and all points in between. While the leagues feature the best in friendly competition between clubs, they also foster wonderful friendships and camaraderie between teammates. According to Lynda Davey, captain for the CRCC Happy Racquets team, “my club life went from zero to awesome as soon as I started getting involved in the Coral Ridge tennis community.” CRCC’s leagues brought home two overall

Coral Ridge, the Perfect Host WE WERE HONORED TO BE CHOSEN
Tournaments
as the first of 111 local qualifying sites for the 2022 U.S. Open Championship on April 25. We couldn’t have asked for a better day to play host to the 84-player field of some top golfers in the area and beyond. The course held its own as only 9 out of 81 players were under par; that’s impressive. Greens putted pure, true and fast. Some guys hit it so long, they flew the speed slots. Nicholas Thompson, top player, had a flip wedge (69 yards) into #1 green that was playing 439. A lot of players were hitting mid-irons into all the par fives. A few caught themselves in back spots, while others capitalized with birdie or better. Low medalists included: Nicholas Thompson, Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Zhengkai (Bobby) Bai, China, Brett Stegmaier, Palm Beach Gardens, FL., who all tied at 67. Overall, the players and their caddies just loved the course and accolades poured in.
Congratulations to all our tournament winners this season. We also had extraordinary participation for the Women’s and Men’s Member-Guest Invitationals. Special congratulations go to our Women’s Club Champion, Andrea Kraus and the Men’s Club Champion, Jeff Walker. Look for the Tournament Entries on-line this fall with information and registration forms for all our major events for the 2022-2023 Season.

THESE SUMMER
practices were completed in June and will be performed again August 1 - 10: GREENS were double verticut, aerified with 5/8” tines and heavily topdressed. This process helps relieve compaction by providing channels for water to enter root zone, promotes healthy plant growth and smooths imperfections. As we continue to aerify a few times, the greens will soften up. COLLARS were scalped down to a lower height to help with smoothness. By scalping the collars, it provides a better surface but, along with the greens, it will take about 3 weeks to heal, providing we have good weather. TEES will be verticut to help with the grain. All tees were sodded and aggressive aerification will be performed 3 - 4 times this summer. This helps with smoothness, water penetration and overall root development. The goal for the next season is a lower mowing height on tees to get them closer to green surfaces. FAIRWAYS will again be aerified the first week of August. Aerification helps with water movement through the profile as well as smoothing out the rough areas. Also, we will be topdressing fairways on Mondays to help with smoothness and firmness, helping continue with balls rolling out.

VERTICUTTING HOW: Thin, tightly spaced blades cut vertically into the turf, below the effective cutting height to penetrate and thin the turf canopy.
WHY: Helps reduce thatch build-up (which restricts air, water and fertilizer into the soil) and allows moisture and oxygen into the root system.
TOP DRESSING HOW: Sand is spread using a larger spreader after aeration or verticutting which allows the sand to permeate the turf.
WHY: Sanded surfaces promote tighter, finer textured turf, alleviate compaction, encourage upright plant growth, & help with thatch control.
CORE AERIFICATION HOW: Using an aerifier, 1/2” plugs of soil are removed leaving holes for air to get beneath the surface of the turf.
WHY: To relieve soil compaction, create firm, smooth putting surfaces by controlling thatch and promoting healthy turf roots.

Place a single tee 6 to 12 feet away from the hole. This marks the spot for the player to putt from.
2
Place two additional tees along the intended line the ball should roll on. Space the tees apart forming a gate the ball should roll through. Tees should be slightly more than a balls width.
3
Putt the ball on the intended line with the ball rolling through the gate into the hole….if you can!

Did the ball go in the hole after rolling through the gate? If the answer is no, either our speed is wrong or the placement of the tees is incorrect (green reading).
Women’s Coral Ridge Classic Tuesday & Thursday, March 4 & 6, 2023 Men’s April Member-Guest Invitational Thursday - Saturday, April 20 - 22, 2023
Can the player roll the ball through the gate without touching the tees?
3
Did the ball roll through the gate and into the hole? If the answer is yes, congrats! You are a great green reader and putter!
