Local beauty queens take

Race For Life in memory o Charlotte Lister, Miss Diamond UK, and Taylor Robshaw, Miss South Yorkshire Galaxy, joined together at this year’s Race For Life at Town Moor in Doncaster which raised £55,000 Charlotte Lister, 34, from Doncaster, ran in memory of her grandparents who died of cancer. Charlotte isn’t a stranger to running Race for Life as it’s her third time completing the fun run in which she has helped raised hundreds of pounds for Cancer Research. Taylor Robshaw, 20, from Rotherham ran in memory of her mum’s cousin who sadly passed away from breast cancer. Charlotte and Taylor were joined by thousands of fundraisers across South Yorkshire in a special day of action to beat cancer. Taylor says: “It was a great day to get together and help raise vital funds to help best cancer and run in memory of my mum’s cousin.” Doncaster Echo had a chat with Charlotte to find out more about the event and what motivated her to take part. What inspired you to take part in the run? Due to losing four grandparents to cancer and two family members in remission, I always try to help fundraise for Cancer Research UK and the Race for Life is an amazing event. Everyone gets together

in memory of someone to not only raise money but remember them in a fun way as you run, jog or walk. I also love the fact you can get dressed up. This was my third Race for Life and I can’t wait for next year’s already. How did you prepare for the event? I didn’t really prepare but I do a 3k walk nearly every day and a 30-minute Zumba class up to five times a week. What was the biggest challenge? The Race For Life was an easy challenge for me as I just walk the 5k but my biggest running challenge I have ever done was the Sheffield Half Marathon. That was incredibly difficult and took me about a week to recover. Do you have any future plans to raise money? At the moment I’m raising money for Coppafeel and the Samaritans through my online pageant magazine which has raised over £2,200 so far. I’m planning on running the Santa Dash at Sandal Park in December in aid of charity but normally I just come across charity events on social media and think ‘I could do that’. I would love to do a fire walk in the future and that’s on my bucket list.
