Why

not head down to Goole Town Centre on Saturday 17th August, 12-5pm for a day of fun, live music, entertainment and pride!

Goole Pride is a community event, celebrating and embracing diversity, inclusion and pride. It allows people from Goole and the surrounding communities an opportunity to come together in support and in solidarity. With live music, performances, poetry and, of course, drag queens, Goole Pride is a fun, free event for all to enjoy.

The first UK Pride Parade was on 1st July 1972, held on the closest weekend to the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. Since then, an annual Pride event has been a show of protest for the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community. Starting off with a few thousand people, last year there were 101 countries worldwide that held LGBTQIA+ events.

Now, it’s a celebration of who we are. Goole Pride is here to party, to educate, to spread awareness and to make a safe space for our local LGBTQIA+ community. The event is specifically organised to bring people together, create a friendly atmosphere and to be proud. Nobody should feel that they have to hide who they are or be ashamed to love.

Goole Pride gives a voice and visibility to a marginalised group and brings people together to celebrate, learn and feel accepted and included.

Goole Pride hopes to continue to grow and make sure that our community knows we are here for them. There are lots of exciting plans for the future. They are always open to suggestions and new members of the team. Their monthly meetings can be attended by anybody wishing to give back to the community.

FROM A POLICE

Keeping your shed or garage safe this summer

“Although it might sound like stating the obvious, never leave your garage or shed door unlocked if you’re not around. Keep the door closed between uses so that no one can see what’s inside.”

PERSPECTIVE:

This month, Goole Policing Team talks to us about how you can keep your shed/garage safe. Especially during the summer months, we are prone to being in and out and need to make sure our possessions are safe

Many people don’t secure their shed or garage in the same way they do their homes - often using an easy-to-break lock or padlock to protect valuable contents.

An opportunistic burglar will try a shed or garage first because they can find the tools they need to break into the main house.

Think like a thief - Take a look at your shed and consider how you would break in. It’s worth having a good padlock on the door with no exposed screws. Pay attention to hinges as these are sometimes easily removable.

Alarm it - Consider a battery-operated shed alarm. They look low key but they respond to movement or door contact with a siren.

Lock it, hide it or mark it - Don’t give them the opportunity or the tools to commit a crime. Lock everything away securely.

Secure your bike to the ground or a lockable stand within a locked shed or garage.

It’s always worth draping an old sheet or blanket

over the top of mowers or bikes.

Although it might sound like stating the obvious, never leave your garage or shed door unlocked if you’re not around.

Properly mark your items and take photographs of them. Some tools can be painted with your name or postcode. You can also register any item that has a serial number with Immobilise.

A locksmith belonging to the Master Locksmiths Association can advise you on the most secure shed and garage door security. They can also help you install it. Most also provide full home security surveys.

The top five most common items stolen from sheds are:

1. Bikes

2. Mowers

3. Sports equipment

4. Power tools

5. Garden tools

Here at HQ, we are so proud to have made it to this huge milestone. That’s 100 editions spanning over eight years!

Our Goole was relaunched back in 2016 with the aim to support local businesses and give the community a space to share all the brilliant news and events that take place every month.

Since our launch, our customers have doubled and we are now helping more people than ever before. That is all thanks to not only those who chose to advertise with us but also our wonderful readers.

Our dedicated team have put love and effort into every single edition, from helping our customers with advertising needs to showcasing the local community stories and delivering the magazine straight to your doorstep.

During the 100 editions we are proud to have been nominated for many awards and win some along the way too! A huge highlight was winning Contribution To The Community at the Goole and Howdenshire Business Excellence awards not only once but twice, in 2019 and 2024. To be recognised at this level was absolutely

Daniella Dennis, sales manager at Our Goole told us: “I love the impact we have on the local community, be this on social media or through our publication. 100 editions is a massive achievement for us. We have won a number of awards, grown as a publication and worked with so many business and events to help them get recognised. Working for Our Goole is not only fun, it is a privilege and I cannot wait to see where we will be in another 100 editions.”

This was especially true of properties with higher-end price tags, and this made life hard for vendors and also estate agents.

With a new Government, we are hopeful that things will pick up and more deals will start to get done and chains will start to

form as a result. All of the agents in Goole and Howden are working hard to ensure things happen quickly and efficiently, and the local solicitors also play a major role in progressing your sale to completion.

Our advice is to always use a local selling agent. Avoid gimmicks and any agent that wants to be paid money up front, they are always expensive in the long run!
