FROM A POLICE Operation Galaxy Assistant Chief Constable Paul Anderson from Humberside Police talks to us about the results of Operation Galaxy, which has just been completed force-wide but focused on the Humberside Force area

“We are a force on the front foot and we are taking control of our streets and roads, making the lives of criminals and predators difficult and uncomfortable. We are determined and committed to tackling criminality across the Humberside force area.

E PERSPECTIVE: y comes to an end With over 750 arrests made and more than 230 people charged with various offences in just seven weeks by the Operation Galaxy Team, its work is continuing into the summer. The results have been outstanding, and the initial five weeks has now been extended, as Assistant Chief Constable Paul Anderson explains: “Due to the lockdown, we did see a reduction in offences taking place and we wanted to ensure we did everything we could to keep crime down when the restrictions began to be eased. But our message was clear to offenders that their criminality will not be tolerated. “We have been unrelenting in our pursuit of targeting those who bring misery and distress to our communities and the results we have seen support our efforts to tackle all types of criminality in our area, so much so, the Galaxy team will continue in its current format into the summer.” The results include: • Over 750 arrests • Over 150 warrants executed at properties across the region

• Over 230 people charged with crimes and currently going through the court process • Large quantities of drugs seized including cocaine, heroin and cannabis • An approximate street value of drugs in excess of £5 million seized • Numerous weapons seized including firearms, Tasers and bladed weapons • More than 46 individuals detained on fail-toappear warrants “Our Neighbourhood Policing Teams have been incredibly focused on engaging with our communities, speaking to them and explaining what actions have been taken in their area, updating, informing and providing reassurance as to any police presence throughout the weeks, talking through and listening to any concerns from residents. “We are a force on the front foot and we are taking control of our streets and roads, making the lives of criminals and predators difficult and uncomfortable. We are determined and committed to tackling criminality across the Humberside force area, to ensure you feel safe and protected, as that will always be our main priority.”

Scunthorpe PPE busin

back to the community The coronavirus pandemic has meant the demand for PPE has risen in order to protect people’s safety. Scunthorpe’s PPE4V have been busy working within the local community to help supply emergency PPE to care homes and other front-line workers Scunthorpe Journal chatted to Josh Blake from PPE4V to find out more about the business and what they have been up to these past few months. Please tell me a little about your business and what you do? We know about the importance of having a good supply of PPE, cleaning and safety equipment. It is because of this that PPE4V was established. We work with a range of suppliers and have established a network of

Page 14

UK-based distributors to be able to source PPE, cleaning and safety equipment at competitive prices. “The demand for PPE in Scunthorpe has been increased due to the health crisis. I feel that it is everybody’s responsibility to give back to their community as much as possible.”

How has lockdown affected you business? We are in troubling times and being a self-employed emergency medical technician has given me a view of the importance of PPE. Lockdown has helped the business grow with the increased demands of PPE required. It has been very testing with limited stock available but we managed to source the stock to distribute this to those in need.

Has there been a grow in demand for PPE in Scunthorpe? The demand for PPE in Scunthorpe has been increased due to the health crisis. We are proud to provide so many businesses with the PPE they need to help protect themselves, their employees and customers. Coming from a family of care professionals, I feel that it is

everybody’s responsibility to give back to their community as much as possible. When stock allows it I have been donating PPE equipment to my local community. What are your plans for the upcoming months? To remain running a family business on a larger scale whilst making sure it remains

community and family orientated. We donate a lot of stock to local companies or people in need, we aim to donate as much stock as we can offer. We also run monthly competitions on our Facebook page. For more information, please visit www.ppe4v.co.uk

Meet Connor the Covid Snake! If you have been to Central Park, you may have seen the Connor the Covid Snake. The snake is created by children/families placing a decorated stone in a line and as more people take part, the snake gets longer The snake was first started by Lisa Cleary and her children Jude and Tilly. Scunthorpe Journal chatted to Lisa to find out more about how the idea came about. Lisa said: “Jude and Tilly both love rock painting and back in May we saw a social media post of a Covid snake elsewhere in the country. The children loved the idea and asked if we could start one, so we did. They made up posters and created lots of rocks and we started Connor the Covid Snake. “We didn’t expect a huge response but we shared it on Facebook and #frommywindowtoyours. We were delighted on our next visit that although some had gone, more were put down. I remember Tilly saying ‘there are more goodies out there than baddies Mum’.

Page 18

“In the weeks of lockdown, we saw so many pictures of other families’ contributions, and messages from people saying it had cheered them up; it gave Jude and Tilly a sense of community and they are so proud, it’s lovely. They have done so well looking after Connor, replacing posters and tidying. I contacted North Lincolnshire Council a few weeks ago to see if they might set them as a permanent feature and they agreed, and actioned it quickly, which was wonderful. “From mid-May to the end of June, Connor grew to, at last count, 445 rocks! However, in the week of rocks being set, many more were placed down so I’m not sure of the actual total number yet, we plan to visit again very soon to count.”

HOROSCOPES August/Sept August/September 2020 - Issue 19

Aquarius

(20th Jan-18th Feb) This probably isn’t the moment to quit your day job, especially if you don’t have a stable financial foundation. Don’t do anything drastic.

Pisces

Gemini

(21st May-20th June) Make sure the new adventure you embark on will be something you enjoy. Your time is precious, don’t waste it doing something just for the sake of being busy.

Cancer

(19th Feb-20th March) You should know by now that perfection simply does not exist, and that sacrificing your precious free time in pursuit of it is a waste of time.

(21st June- 22nd July) You shouldn’t take anything or anyone too seriously right now. There is a lot of uncertainty around many things at the moment.

Aries

(23rd July-22nd Aug)

(21st March-19th April) Your high-spirited attitude will enable you to challenge someone in a positive way, so don’t be shy about objecting to someone’s silly or illogical statements.

Taurus

(20th April-20th May) There is some unfinished business you need to take care of, but you need to figure out what it is first. Things will then start to look up.

Leo

When you help lift people up, you get a lot more cooperation and satisfaction, and your popularity will stay just as high as it always has been.

Virgo

(23rd Aug-22nd Sept) You need to come out of your shell and make as many calls as it takes to reconnect with the people you need to speak with.

Libra

(23rd Sept-22nd Oct) Stop cleaning up people’s mess. You have worked as hard as everyone else, so why should they expect you to stay on longer to get the place back into shipshape order?

Scorpio

(23rd Oct-21st Nov) You have the ability to see the bigger picture and rise above pettiness, so inspire others to do the same by setting all of your personal bias aside.

Sagittarius

(22nd Nov-21st Dec) Turn your attentions toward resolving unfinished business today. Is there a project you left half-finished? Is someone waiting to hear from you?

Capricorn

(22nd Dec-19th Jan) Take this month to enjoy yourself and do something you have always wanted to do. Remember your life is for living. Don’t stand still.
