The EMERGING TALENTS issue

P

ast issues have proven that the growth of this magazine cannot be stopped. Time and time again we find talent that need a voice and with our platform we're able to tell the world about their passion and love for the Arts. In this particular issue we explore the wonderful world of fashion through Richard Petit’s eyes. An emerging designer who left Miami to live in New York to pursue his dreams. He recently participated in the World Fashion For Peace show on September 25th and gave us a preview of the collection he showcased on the runway. After the show there were nothing but kudos coming his way and we couldn’t be prouder as we saw Richard grow into the person he is today. On another note, we have the pleasure and privilege of brining you talent from around the world such as Tomas Calandroni an artist from Argentina, Keli Lucas a painter from New York and Jayquan Booker an Actor and Model from New York. These talents are absolutely in love with what they do and couldn’t wait to share their thoughts with you, our fabulous readers. Last but not least, Geeks and Geekettes rejoice!! Supercon was in Miami this past July and the characters that we’ve encountered were absolutely flawless. Some of them resembling their favorite cartoon or anime to a tee. Our photographer Sean Simpson went all out and what he discovered will definitely have you relive your childhood. It is our pleasure to give you this month a Fashion and Art issue featuring the best and the brightest of the emerging industry. My excitement could not be contained and you will surely know why by flipping through the following pages. I would like to thank our loyal writers who continue to donate their talent to this magazine. We are forever grateful as you continue to contribute to its growth. Ladies and gentlemen I give you our 16th issue of CREATIVMAG

"When I met Yoshi in Glo's Glam Lab workshop that Sunday afternoon, she told me she was a photographer who enjoys bringing out the alter ego in people, at that moment I knew this would be a bombtastic photo shoot!" The very words of Kayla Weiss when asked why did she do a ballerina themed photoshoot, after all she is a female with an aggressive side. Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio Ms. Weiss has been teaching Krav Maga for 2 years and has been a MMA fighter for 2 years. She's no rookie neither with a Black belt Krav, her sportsmanship personality can go from an uptempo surfing trip to a mellow and soothing wheb going fishing gal when its time for relaxation, which by the way she is both great at!

Ethereal Ideal creates handmade, unique hair jewelry. Unlike common head chains, each piece is created to be "no snag" and does not damage the wearer's hair. Products range from the bohemian style of simple, layered headbands to wire and crocheted Celtic knots. Ethereal Ideal is inspired by the bohemian and fantasy styles, making each piece ideal for a costume, performance, festival or ceremony. Ethereal Ideal began during her own wedding. At first she made the traditional flower crown that you see at most weddings. Following her ceremony, she still enjoyed looking at wedding blogs and jewelry and she came across a style that has become to describe my own work; Bohemian. When she realized that the embroidery thread had the same flexibility as elastic, it opened her eyes to a new world of material manipulation. This style combined with her love for fantasy led to Ethereal Ideal. Ethereal Ideal is now available on Amazon Handmade and Etsy. To learn more, please visit www. etherealideal.com .

R

Don't let the world dictate you. Create your own destiny.

Richard Petit, an emerging designer in New York has once been overseen in Miami. The past couple of weeks were definitely a delight getting to see an amazing designer that I have been following and supporting for the past 5 years evolve into this butterfly. This spread was Richard Petit's rebirth. Richard also has been invited to participate in the 2016 Fashion For Peace show. This was Richard's first show since he has left Florida. He now resides in New York City. In this showcase there has been a shift in his designs. What we knew back then are definitely not what we see now. Richard has tremendously grown in this industry and he explains why: "Before the shift I needed a

break I needed to find out who am I this time around. As a designer you need a break to reinvent yourself, it's always good to take the time and get to know yourself at different stages of your life. Everything was so different. I even made the decision to become healthy.my obesity was a big problem for me it made me feel insecure, the outside was covering the inside. The only time that I could express myself was through my fashion so when I actually lost the weight, I took care of myself first. I actually went to the doctor, men are mostly affected by illness than woman. If it's something that you can't change just learn to love it. it might be that thing that makes you special. You can't let your insecurities get the best of you I was still making garments for clients however I became inspired by NY, the lights, the arts in SOHO taking in NY, The Fashion Capital, I was also inspired by the beautiful fabric that cannot be found in Miami. I'm very proud of this collection it was very interesting to see how I can design ready to wear as much as extravagant gowns."

Richard Petit never knew he would eat, live, and

breathe fashion but indeed such is the story of his life. Born in Cap- Haitian, second largest city of Haiti, He only saw the sunrise of his childhood for he moved to the Land of Opportunity at only the tender age of 2. Art was indeed ingrained in him at the early stages of his life, he was amused by drawing landscapes, live portraits and Human forms, however Elementary school was where it all began. At the age of eleven, though very young, he discovered his love for fashion.

“I remember being in the 3rd grade drawing my first ever Sailor Moon character, which I used to watch every morning before heading to school”. Being in love with the arts, middle school permitted him to exteriorize his hunger for fashion. Having an eye for color, Richard dabbled into the arts and undertook selfpublishing where he created magazines and booklets for each project season. As his work excelled, he knew immediately that art is where he wanted to make his dwelling. His humble beginnings as a fashion designer began, at the age of 15, in senior High school under the guidance of his sewing teacher, Richard began to develop the skills of fabrication when he created his first garment. However, a tragic moment in his life marked the beginning of the rest of his career. It was around this time that Richard experienced the loss of his

father. “It was then I realized, you only get one life to live. There are no do-overs” subsequently he adopted the motto “Do you,” meaning “Do what makes you happy.” “We each have to march to the beat of our own drum” He enrolled and gained a formal education at Keiser University’s Fashion Design and Merchandising program which gave birth to the brand Papillon (written without the “I” purposely) “The name Papillon symbolizes what I was going through in life. A Papillon meaning butterfly, goes through so many stages of transformation before being able to fly freely, So I see myself the same way I’m going through life with up and downs, where some opportunities have been more generous than others but at the end I know I’ll get to where I want to be.” Richard’s line has been featured in several magazines such as D’arche’ from Asia and Tribal Moxie from Africa. These clothes were recently showcased at Keiser’s Fashion Review Board where he graduated with honors. Another great achievement amongst his participation in several fashion shows was the graduating collection at Keiser University in 2009, Fashion show for Haiti at the Renaissance Hotel. Richad’s designer influences come from two moguls of the fashion industry: Versace and Eli Saab. His ultimate goal in life is to see his clothing worn not only by celebrities but also regular people, however his heart is in the right place for he would like to open a school in Haiti for those who dream big like he does nurturing the dream of becoming a designer and to be able to push them to their outer limits of achievements” I do believe that if it wasn't for someone else giving me a chance I wouldn't be here today doing what I love.”

W

e love embracing people of all cultures and origin. We stumbled upon Tomas Calandroni from Argentina who loves art beyond living. And now we have the privilege of bringing you a special interview done with him in his native tongue to see the interview in english please visit our blog www.creativmag.com De donde es usted? Ha usted visitado Los Estados Unidos?

Vivo en Mar del Plata, Argentina, desde hace aproximadamente 10 años. No he visitado los Estados Unidos.

No, solo dibujo.

Discovered Talents |

Painting

It is said that talented people never stop at one form of expression, you have been a fashion stylist, poet, music and indie film producer. What is it about painting art that excites you?

I’m in love with any form of expression. Expression and creativity to me is everything, we need it to thrive, and watching, listening or staring at a finished piece afterwards is so fascinating. Painting is definitely a favorite though. If there is ever a moment where I find myself inspired but don’t have my materials with me, I’ll pick up anything I can draw with and create something on whatever is around me. I feel like it makes observing life so much more fun. It keeps me in the ultimate present moment analyzing the details around me and becoming fascinated by their essence. Do you remember the first time you started painting? What inspired you to do so?

I feel like I’ve been painting (or “coloring” as I would say as a child) since forever. As a child my parents made sure I had markers and pencils to express myself with. They were always really supportive of the arts. I’m so fortunate of that, its definitely really important for parents to practice and teach their kids expression through creativity. I always felt super motivated to make “pictures” for family and friends so I feel like that definitely helped me feel confident about everything I create. What would you call your style of painting? Is there a certain technique or do you go with the flow?

M

eet Keli Lucas also known as Raquel Cohen, a talented painter from New York City, whose versitality expands her creativity into the fields of fashion, poetry, music and film. Keli completed her Bachelor in Fine Arts from SVA (School of Visual Arts), majoring in Fine/Studio Arts, where she honed her skills and knowledge of painting and figure drawing. Keli is definitely not a stranger to Hollywood either. She recently was commissioned an oil painting of the character, Mugatu from Zoolander, the movie series. The one of a kind piece was specifically made for a Will Ferrell themed bar in the Lower East Side of Manhattan called “Stay Classy, New York”. The Mugatu painting gained a lot of attention on social media along with legitimate press like BuzzFeed, Maxim and other news publications that were making the painting the focal point and the face of the growingly popular business. [sources: letagatemagazine.com] We've had the privilege to get to know Keli on this exclusive interview without further ado we welcome you into reading more about the wonderful talet that is Keli Lucas. Um, I’m not sure to be pretty honest! I find it hard to stick to one style al though I envy the people who could find their signature differentiated look. I feel like I am forever changing and finding new versions and variations of myself and my hand. Originally I stuck to mostly painting with oils ad realism while still dabbling and experimenting with different materials and styles like liquid glass, plaster, wood... etc. I feel at this time in my life, in my recent series, while using acrylics more, I might have stumbled upon a style I can say is honing itself. Its sort of this go-to inspiration of realistic portraiture depicted with free hand, painterly brush strokes and splashes. I may have found my styles but if and when I officially admit to it, knowing myself, I may start trying something new and changing it again. Haha observation and creation upon so is just so fun to evolve and switch up. Would you paint anything else besides portraits?

I definitely would. I would never want to constrict myself to just one focus although I find myself mostly fascinated by the human expression and soul behind the face and eyes. If you gave me materials and said to make whatever you want right now, it would probably be someone around me. I don’t know why it just happens on its own. At this time do you still dabble in the other industries? Or is painting your complete focus?

I definitely will always be dabbling in different industries. It’s fun for me to have different avenues to play and get creative with for work. I love the difference in industries and what each one brings out of me and the people I’m collaborating with.

My ultimate creative outlet though I feel is definitely painting and making music. I wouldn’t be able to live without the two. For me, they go hand in hand. I can’t paint without blasting music and singing simultaneously, it’s the deepest zone I could get myself in. The way the music that’s playing effects the mindset that speaks through the piece that’s being created is really exciting to me as well. Do you have anyone that inspires you the most? If so who and why?

There are definitely many people that inspire me. Friends and loved ones of mine that embody depth and wisdom that give me positive input and challenge the way I look at things in life. It surprises me lot too sometimes. I could meet someone and unknowingly be really compelled to dive into their brain and then paint their portrait to see if I could depict the beauty I see in their character. Have you ever collaborated with any celebrities? If so who?

Haha I’ve been doing this thing with Wire Sculptor Artist, Skye Ferrante who is a great friend of mine. We’d both make a portrait of each other or the same model while people watched. It’s really fun to see the explosion of creative energy that hovers over everyone in the room while it happens. The portrait I made of him at a Hudson Terrace Penthouse art show has actually been one of my most talked about, it’s really cool. Besides New York . have you ever been elsewhere to expose your work?

I’ve always created while traveling whether it was drawing or creating music videos but I still have yet to show my work in an exposition. I’m definitely planning on it soon though when I return to Miami and Los Angeles but we shall see when that is. “Keli's goal is to inspire other female artists who may not feel that they have the support of their community to explore the arts.” What actions have you taken to inspire other female artists?

Any final words of wisdom ? Hmm.. If I could say one main piece of wisdom it would probably be to follow your dreams. Don’t ever doubt yourself or your passions because you have them for a reason and using them to influence, help and inspire others is always important and beautiful. That’s what we are put here to do.. Expressing yourself in any way to contribute to society is always important.

Well, to start, I continue to address the subject when I’m interviewed… so people reading it that relate can maybe feel inspired by the (once scary) leap I took to make my dreams happen as an independant woman, and build the courage to do the same. So thank you for asking about it! I also have been collaborating with other female Artist friends of mine to throw events that bring other women together so show their work for charity and make a difference. As long as we show people that they do have a voice as indeviduals and their passion does matter and will be celebrated, then I know we’ve done good!

U

sain Bolt suffers from Scoliosis, loves fast food and does not like training!!! Many of you are probably wondering who Usain Bolt is, i.e. if you are living under a rock, and why exactly is this news? Well let me bring you up to speed. 30-year old Usain St. Leo Bolt is undoubtedly one of track and field’s most outstanding sportsmen of all times; dubbed legendary and well-beloved by many. If you are an avid fan of the Olympics, you would have been aware of this ‘wonder of nature’ who bolted onto the scenes (no pun intended) in the 2008 Beijing games. In this year’s competition in Rio, Bolt cinched his coveted legendary spot in the history of the sports world by securing his ninth consecutive gold, while maintaining his grip on the World and Olympic records. This was a three-peat performance for the sprint star, after nabbing gold in the 100 meter, 200 meter and 4x100 meter relay over the course of the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympics. Never in the history of sports has this feat ever been pulled off by one man, who also happens to be a fellow “yaadie”! Yet, at 6 feet 5 inches, Bolt struggles with a debilitating spinal condition, admits to having an avid appetite for food kind that does not promote his athleticism and shockingly, takes no extraordinary pleasure in doing the leg work that landed him in very, very close proximity to such great sports icons as Muhammad Ali and Jesse Owens. It does beg the million dollar question, “How does he do it?” I am now for the first time throwing my full weight behind making my brand a household name. I am no longer in school and no longer am I tied to a full time job with a rigid schedule that would often extend beyond the regular 8-hour gig. I have time, lots and lots of time to conjure up my creative doppelganger and to give myself fully to all the things I had dreamt of doing regarding the successful establishment of my business, when time was nowhere in sight. What no one told me was that I would finally get into a space where I would have

the opportunity to do what I absolutely love, but that it would demand more than just my gift and passion. That it would demand extreme self governance, discipline, grit, sheer focus, commitment, persistence, scheduling, planning, establishing and consistently adhering to a very structured routine that produces results, delayed gratification, time management, and a strong accountability ethos. In this new season of my life it really isn’t difficult for me to decipher how Usain Bolt has consistently managed to stay at the top of his industry, despite his idiosyncrasies and physical challenges. It’s pretty simple. Every day he makes the decision to do whatever it takes to keep himself in peak performance. Bolt’s workout routine is beyond ridiculous for the average human and though it produces the ideal stamina and form, it is incessantly intermingled with immense pain, owing to his spinal condition. He watches his appetite, permitting himself to binge on fast-food every few months, but sticking with a diet that is guaranteed to undergird the legacy he has committed to etch in the minds of the millions of celebrants he has managed to garner across the globe. Bolt may not be a fan of the measures he has to take to be the best at what he does, but he knows what has to be done and he simply does it. That’s what I am beginning to discover as I craft my own journey to the top. Anyone who intends on manifesting his or her leadership gift and successfully serving it to the world will come to quickly realize that, though passions may differ, the principles for arrival remain the same. Indeed, Bolt has taken the road less traveled by most and that has made all the difference. God-speed in your endeavors!

Love and Relationships

It’s very common for people to want to go after their passion or get comfortable in their God-given craft. Now for some, that never happens because sometimes, life takes a front seat and we just have to go for the ride. For others, we have more legroom to search for our niche and take life by the handles. But what happens when our partner takes us on their ride to “Careerville”? Do we wait for them to get it right? Do we support them in their process and lend a loving hand? Or do we give them a time-frame to get it together and make some real money? …Quickly!

If you’ve never been in that predicament, it’s hard to say what you would and wouldn’t do. Until you’re under the fire, it’s difficult to make a judgement call. For a lot of other folks however, they can relate. They may be with someone who’s working odd-end jobs while chasing after a dream. That dream could be to go back to school, get a certification or receive special training, start a business or even audition for The Voice. What’s a dream to them, may look like a dead-end end street in your eyes and quite frankly, bills have to get paid and money has to get made.

O

ften times, we strive to be the best mate we can be, especially when we deeply care for or love the person we’re with. In our relationships, we aim to see through the good and the bad while putting aside some things we never thought we’d agreed to…you know, those non-negotiables. On the contrary, we also love, we comfort, we soothe and we support. While striving to keep our head above water, we run into one problem, (some of us at least): The person we’re with is not exactly in a place, (career-wise) that we’re quite comfortable with. Damn. Now what do we do?

How Long Should You Wait for Your Mate to Get it Straight?

This predicament may be a lot more serious for married couples or couples with children. But what about the other people? You know, single people dating who want to be married one day and/ or have children? Should waiting for their mate to fall into the right career be a part of their agenda? Well, it all depends. First things first. Consider these things as you check off items on your “Should I Wait?” list: How talented is your mate in their desired field? Is your partner as talented as they think they are? A lot of times we hear people say, “You’re never too old to follow your dream.” and that is absolutely true. But what about your partner’s skill set? If your partner is ultimately trying to make money off of their talents, they must be realistic and you must be honest.

Example: If your partner’s dream was to always become a personal chef for celebrities, they must first know how to cook and actually enjoy doing it. Your partner must understand that just because a job sounds cool or exciting, that doesn’t mean the job doesn’t take hard work. If your partner loathes the thought of cooking for themselves most times, and even that is mediocre meatloaf, how in the world can they be a personal chef for someone else? Is your mate working diligently, day and night, to pursue their dream? So your 40 year-old boyfriend wants to be a rapper… (hey, these things happen and do come to pass), but how hard is he working at it? Is he constantly writing lyrics? Is he going to relevant events where he can network with the right people? Is he engaging in studio time and actually recording his music? Does he keep up with social media and promote himself to the world? If the answer to most of these questions are “no”, then that guy needs a real 9 to 5 and you might not have time to wait on him to be a super star while he flirts with an idea that actually requires blood, sweat and tears. Is your mate’s dream hindering you financially? Your partner’s dream job should not, by any means, be ruining your credit and leaving your bank account empty. Now, it is okay to help the people you love, but if it is draining you to the point that you have to struggle to make ends meet, there should be a oneon-one sit-down with your partner. We want the person we’re in love with to be successful, heck, be a millionaire! But if you feel like your mate keeps spending your money in places that won’t benefit them later in their career, you may have to reconsider some things.

All in all, it is ultimately up to an individual to decide if they’ll wait for their mate to become all who they said they’d be. The best thing to do, in any situation, is to let time be the determining factor. Now how much time you wait, is solely up to you. Just be sure to put your happiness, health, goals and reality first while making your decision.

COLLABORATION A Winning Element of Art and Expression

C

Collaboration is a form of expression communities underestimate. On a recent trip, I experienced its effectiveness firsthand traveling to Chicago to attend the Young Chicago Author’s (YCA) week-long youth poetry conference. Similar to a writing camp, the teaching artists of the Jason Taylor Foundation’s Omari Hardwick Bluapple Poetry Network (JTF), chaperoned 40 aspiring young artists to instill the significance of honing their craft. Professionally, we discovered the Chicago teaching artists were involved multiple disciplines outside of poetry. In addition, the YCA staff -and invited guests leading the presentations- held prominent art-based positions that allowed participants to witness that collaboration is a substantial ingredient for success. Chicago’s artistic community demonstrated the strength other artistic communities would have through collaborative ventures. The Jason Taylor foundation was invited to attend the YCA event as part of JTF’s participation in the international brand, Louder than a Bomb (LTAB). The alliance between the JTF and YCA is an exemplary show of powerful partnerships. LTAB is an annual youth poetry competition, founded by YCA organization leader, Kevin Coval, a Chicago native. JTF hosts LTAB as an 11 day poetry festival and youth competition held in April. The production’s main functionality is to showcase the skillset of 120 students that spend months writing and crafting performance poetry.

media outlets. Consequently, many students have had their work published and/or given opportunities to perform at prominent events within the state of Florida and in Chicago. Artists’ joint efforts can also allow for this type of cross promoting and leads to other endeavors. Multiple networks cross paths and fresh audiences absorb a new artist or art form. Cities plagued with infinite art yet lacks awareness should consider banding together for the common purpose of building through collaboration. Collaboration takes trust and humility, however, taken full advantage of it increases productivity, publicity and more. From the first profit made from the concerted effort guaranteed collaboration will become part of your art and expression game plan.
