historical va Growing adventures at Philip S. Miller Park phase two construction nears completion Whether you’re looking for a quick hike, hoping the kids will burn off some energy, or craving an adventurous ride through the scenery, Philip S. Miller Park truly has something for everyone. This guide features all the programed classes and activities offered at the MAC, but the adventures keep growing. Phase two of the park is set to open in early 2016. The second phase of the park features the core plaza. The new park gathering area will house group picnic pavilions, an outdoor fireplace, additional restrooms and a splash pad. Plus, party planners mark your calendar, the millhouse is also set to open in the coming year. The millhouse is an indoor/outdoor event center with space for up to 125 people. An outdoor pond and water feature will make the millhouse the perfect location for weddings and other events. Lastly, the amphitheater is a key element in the second phase of the park. The outdoor facility will host concerts, shows and events for up to 2,000 people. “The entire Parks and Recreation department couldn’t be more pleased with the success of the park,” said Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Brauer. “It has been several years of challenging work, but the outcome has been extremely rewarding. And, there’s more on the way. We’re extremely excited about the new amenities the second phase of the park will bring the residents of Castle Rock.” Philip S. Miller Park is just one of Castle Rock’s beautiful parks, trails and open spaces. That’s why the Town’s Parks and Recreation department is now being nationally recognized for the community’s outstanding amenities. Castle Rock Parks and Recreation recently joined the ranks of the most elite parks and recreation departments across the country by earning accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Parks and Recreation Agencies and the National Recreation and Park Association. This accreditation means the Department now ranks among the top 145 parks and recreation agencies in the United States. xplore PHILIP S. MILLER PARK TRAILS This trail network consists of single-track trails divided into four different, but interconnected, loops with paved, accessible segments in the active park area near the MAC. The trails explore all the valleys, knolls and high points of this 270-acre site. A unique feature on the site is the 200-step Challenge Hill staircase. The staircase climbs 178 feet in elevation and is similar to the Manitou Springs Incline. The trails and Challenge Hill are free and open to the public. Bikes are not recommended on the Challenge Hill staircase. This is an active regional park that now includes a zip line course and Adventure Playground area. Trail users should be aware of all park users and use caution on the trails and in the parking lots. Parking is available in the park and the main parking lot at the MAC. There are additional trail access points on Plum Creek Parkway and Wolfensberger Road. In the near future, the trails will also connect to Ridgeline Open Space and the Stewart Trail network to the west; the Ridgeline Trailhead parking lot is located on Coachline Road. The trail system is available for adoption through the POST Partners volunteer program. Call 303-814-7456 or email postpartners@CRgov.com for details. Trail length:
