JULI A C A S SELS

“My studio was a simple easel beneath the shade of a winter thorn tree, on the banks of the Luangwa River in Zambia. Game wandered across the sandbank below while hippos wallowed in the pools. It was an incredible privilege to have such a wild, ever-changing living canvas in front of me.”

CRICKET FINE ART INVITES YOU TO THE PRIVATE VIEW OF

JULIA C ASSELS ‘Safari’ Tuesday 7th November 2017 6.00 – 8.00pm at 2 Park Walk, London, SW10 0AD The exhibition continues until 18th November 2017. Paintings are for sale on receipt of the catalogue. The entire exhibition can be viewed at www.cricketfineart.co.uk

It takes a profound knowledge of African wildlife to capture the fluidity of movement that Julia achieves in her work. A decade spent living in the bush in Zambia and subsequently Tanzania, has given her a deep and sympathetic understanding of her subjects and imbues her paintings with an intensity that can only exist as a result of such prolonged experience. As a specialist in both ink and watercolour, Julia's technical capabilities allow her to treat these traditional mediums with a contemporary twist, and she has recently adapted this methodology for works on canvas. By using watercolour, often enriched with diluted acrylic paint, she is able to achieve an even greater sense of depth, whilst maintaining the characteristic flowing style that is so essential to her work. Julia exhibits widely and her work is found in collections worldwide. She has been shortlisted for the David Shepherd ‘Artist of The Year’ for the last four years running and the current exhibition also includes a number of works inspired by her time working as a specialist Art Tutor in Italy, Spain and the Camargue.

“I would like to thank Aardvark Safaris for generously sponsoring my ‘Safari’ Exhibition. We share a common passion for Africa, and the important work that Aardvark do with local communities and their guide and ranger training programme will help ensure our wildlife for the future.” 20
