HEATING/FIRE PLACES
Generous and grunty AF series The Escea AF Series combines minimalist design and installation flexibility with a whole lot of flame. The high output series uses a closed combustion system and direct vent flue that ensures the heat goes into the room, not up the chimney. It only uses outside air for combustion and carries the exhaust air away without exchange with the room air. Perfect for 6 star+ homes as there is no need for make-up air. First in the series was the AF700. With smaller dimensions and flexi-flue extensions, this gas log fire was designed to fit most brick chimneys and masonry cavities. The fact that it can be installed straight into a timber framed wall without the need for expensive fire rated materials makes it an ideal retrofit fireplace.
“Renovators love the AF700 not only for ease of installation, but for its sleek design that allows it to work in with the existing character of a terrace house. On the flipside, this makes it work just as well in a newbuild too,” explains lead designer Alex Hodge. Following on from the success of the AF700, Escea added the AF960 to the series just last year. This gas heater employs all the same design principles of the AF700, but it’s bigger and more powerful. With an impressive 7kW heat output and 4 Energy Star rating, the AF960 effortlessly heats a modern, open plan living space while being kind on your gas bill. The AF960 also has an added 300mm to the large glass area, for even more flame display.

BARBECUES
The Weber Family Q Built in, the outdoor kitchen centrepiece. The Weber Q is Australia’s favourite barbecue. People love them for their versatility and durability but above all, for the flavours of a Weber Q meal. The Weber Family Q Built In is no exception – it’s the latest evolution of the Weber Q range. It has the same amazing cooking system, features, and appearance as the Weber Q Range but has been turned into an outdoor kitchen masterpiece. With stunning looks and a clever design, it will become the focal point of the outdoor kitchen, and will create outdoor meals with that sensational Weber flavour for many years to come. The Weber Family Q Built In is designed to fit into a standard 600mm (or larger) outdoor kitchen bench, which makes tailoring a design for installation simple. Constructed of 304 grade stainless steel and cast aluminium, the Family Q Built In will last for years outdoors without rusting. Installation and maintenance is easy due to Weber’s clever design, or if you prefer, trained Weber Technicians offer a delivery, assembly and installation service in capital cities around the country. Why do people love the Weber Family Q Built in so much? It’s simple – unbelievable flavour and versatility, all with the convenience of gas. The Weber Q cooking system can take simple Australian barbecue favourites and transform them into juicy, mouthwatering masterpieces. It’s not just the amazing barbecues though. By using Weber Q accessories, you can transform your Weber Q into a brilliant convection oven or rotisserie cooker. Your Weber Q will cook roasts with that famous Weber flavour; chicken, beef, lamb, even perfect pork crackling. The Family Q Built In will also bake perfect pizzas, cakes and muffins, just like in the oven. In fact, the Family Q is so versatile it’s like having all your kitchen cooking appliances rolled into one, helping to keep the kitchen clean, tidy and free of heat and smells. Imagine never having to clean the oven again! How does it work? Weber flavour is legendary around the world and Australians have been enjoying the flavour of Weber food since the 1970’s, but not many people know how that flavour is created. It comes from the barbecue smoke that’s circulated around the meat while it is being cooked. This is a
unique Weber trait and it’s what has made Weber flavour famous all over the world. That’s why the Weber Family Q (even when searing a steak or grilling a sausage) is operated with the lid down. The barbecue smoke is circulated around the food inside, imparting that fabulous flavour to your favourite meals. So the famous Weber barbecue flavour is created by both searing the meat on the hot cast iron cooking grill and the natural convection that circulates barbecue smoke all around the meat. It’s this flavour that is the hallmark of the Weber Q cooking system. The Weber Family Q Built In – total peace of mind included At Weber, quality and performance is at the very heart of our culture. We know that performance, appearance and durability in the backyard are all that counts, and that’s why Weber use only the highest grade materials, chosen to weather the elements and to stand the test of time. The Weber Q Built In is constructed from high quality, 304 grade stainless steel and no rust cast aluminium, to stand up to even the harshest outdoor environments. Inside, there’s a rust resistance enamel coated cast iron cooking grill and a stainless steel burner system that means the Family Q Built In will perform like brand new for years. In fact, we guarantee it; the Weber Family Q Built In comes with a 5 year warranty backed by one of Australia’s most trusted customer service and technical support team. Talk to anyone who has had reason to deal with Weber customer service and they’ll tell you the same thing – the experience is second to none. Add to that a team of trained technicians and specialists around the country who are ready to support Weber customers on site with anything from technical issues to cooking enquiries, and you have total peace of mind. SURVEYING TOOLS
Measuring in three dimensions with a DISTO distance meter? Wow! Pioneers of laser distance meter technology Leica Geosystems have produced their best handheld unit yet. It is a revolution, something that so far has not existed. The S910 is in many ways like a High-end surveying instrument. From any one setup it can provide you with 3 dimensional measurements! This is achieved by the inclusion of digital encoders that allow the gathering of point to point measurements. Combined with considerable electronic smarts, this provides the ability to position any measureable point that you can see and compare it to any other measureable point. Measure two, ten or 30 points, they will all be allocated a 3 dimensional position in space.
This could be used for bill boards, roofing, railings, internal space, stair cases, shade cloth or hundreds of other jobs where points and angles need to be determined quickly and safely. No more ladders and tape measures! To achieve these results, the smart base and a camera tripod are both available – aside from use with these accessories the S910 can be used as a normal Disto. The LEICA DISTO S910 stores all the measured points into DXF file, as a floor plan, wall layout or as 3D data. This can be downloaded later in office to a PC via the USB interface OR it can be viewed in the field and transferred via WLAN – many new things are possible. This revolutionary technology expands the possibilities for measurements with laser distance meters to a much higher levels. No other distance meter offers as much functionality and operational ability.

The Essential First Step to identify nearby infrastructure Who Is Dial Before You Dig? Dial Before You Dig is a not for profit organisation that delivers a vital national community service designed to assist in preventing damage and disruption to the vast infrastructure networks which provide Australia with the essential services we use every day. Protecting Australia’s infrastructure assets is crucial in keeping essential services such as electricity, gas, water and telecommunications flowing to the community. Any work activity near these infrastructure assets has the potential to damage them, leading to service interruptions, delays to the project, costly repairs and in the worst case scenario, injury or death. Obtaining information about the work site from Dial Before You Dig members significantly minimises these risks by providing information about what lies beneath and around the worksite. Safety is a fundamental aspect of any project and so Dial Before You Dig should always be the first point of contact and an essential first step. How Does Dial Before You Dig Work? Dial Before You Dig aims to educate and promote the importance of safe work practices by providing all persons working in and around infrastructure with free, quick and easy access to plans and information directly from the owners of the assets. Lodging an enquiry is a free and simple process: • Online via our website: www.1100.com.au; • Mobile website or iPhone app; • By phone on 1100. Our unique service used by most of Australia’s major owners of above and underground infrastructure assets means that Dial Before You Dig offers a single point of contact to request information about the infrastructure at the planned worksite without the need to contact organisations individually. Once an enquiry is lodged, details including the location, date and type of work being carried out are then sent to all listed infrastructure owners with assets in the vicinity of the project. The asset owners will then respond directly to the enquirer with information on the location of their infrastructure assets. Upon receipt of the information packs in response to a Dial Before You Dig enquiry it is important that you review all material in the pack as this contains valuable information, such as emergency contacts. It is important to note that each plan, where provided by an asset owner, has a validity period. This validity period may vary between asset owners. If you require updated plans from a previous enquiry, the enquiry history is maintained against your account which easily allows you to resubmit it.
Four P’s of Safe Work Prior to commencement, workers have a ‘Duty of Care’ when working around underground pipes and cables and other infrastructure assets. Following the Four P’s of safe work, it is important to: 1. Plan any activities in advance by using the Dial Before You Dig services;
2. Pothole to discover the exact location of all underground infrastructure;
3. Protect and support any exposed infrastructure; and
4. Proceed only when the above steps are in place including receiving responses from all listed asset owners. How Can We Help? Dial Before You Dig can assist you with a number of educational resources that assist workers to protect Australia’s infrastructure assets. These include: • Guides on how to locate underground assets; and • The Utility Providers Services Committee’s Code of Practice. You can arrange for free onsite awareness or toolbox presentations on how to use the Dial Before You Dig service. In addition, Dial Before You Dig can coordinate presentations from some of our utility asset owners on the interpretation of their plans provided in response to an enquiry. Dial Before You Dig can also assist you with our membership options. If you have infrastructure assets, either above or below ground, and want to minimise damage to those assets; or if you just want to be part of a community with the similar ideals of preventing damage to such assets, then we offer various classes of membership to suit. Dial Before You Dig is committed to actively promote a culture of zero damage to assets and zero impact to the community through the usage of the service. The use of our unique free service assists to ensure that those who work around infrastructure assets are well informed. To find out more about Dial Before You Dig visit our website or contact our local West Australian Office.

Rawlinsons Construction cost reference books In 1983, Rawlinsons saw the need within the construction industry for a comprehensive building and construction reference book. From this early vision, Rawlinsons Australian Construction Handbook was formulated with the objective of providing an extensive and detailed building cost reference book embracing all sections of the building industry. This publication was added to in 1991 when it became obvious that there was a need to introduce a new compact volume which would specifically meet the demands of those involved in the smaller industrial, commercial and housing sectors of the industry, Rawlinsons Construction cost guide.
The enormous amount of data held in both publications is thoroughly vetted before going to print to ensure the publication accurately reflects the average market situation and most importantly, the appropriate variables for each capital city. The 2017, the thirty-fifth edition of Rawlinsons Australian Construction Handbook will be available from late January for $420 inc GST, whilst the 2017 and twenty-fifth edition of Rawlinsons Construction Cost Guide will be available in early February 2017 for $285 inc GST. INSURANCE
The Building & Construction Industry’s Own Insurance Broker MBA Insurance Services (‘MBAIS’) is Master Builders own general insurance broking business. We have offices in all States of Australia, employing specialist staff skilled in the key aspects of building and construction insurance – including Construction (or Contract) Works, Third Party Liability and Housing Indemnity insurance. Unlike other general insurance brokers, all profits made by our business are returned directly back to MBAWA, who in turn re-invest these funds into support services such as training, OH&S assistance, contract advice and apprenticeship schemes - initiatives that support your own building and construction industry. By being a leading broker in this sphere, MBAIS uses its industry muscle to leverage great ‘value for money’ insurance arrangements with preferred underwriters, ultimately ensuring that premiums are kept low, yet policy coverage is kept broad. Our customer’s claims are always well managed because our Insurers cherish the importance of their relationship with MBAIS. We currently provide insurance related services to over 8,000 members nationally, and this number continues to grow strongly each year. We look after a broad spectrum of members – large and small, residential or commercial, builder or supplier etc. The bulk of our business is generated through referrals from our customers, who appreciate the quality and price of the products we recommend to them. Unlike several of our competitors, who have retreated from specialising in the building and construction industry in recent years, we are continuing to strengthen our specialist expertise in this often complex insurance market. We have also streamlined a number of our internal and external processes in order to make our operation faster and more efficient, providing our customers with a professional ‘can do’ service.
Approach / Philosophy Our approach focuses on providing high levels of service and ‘value for money’ products. We have a pro-active team of experienced and motivated staff, who are trained to understand the issues relevant to your business, and who can design an insurance program that is appropriate for your needs. Importantly, when you have a claim, our experts will help you lodge the claim, and then work with you to ensure that you gain peace of mind throughout the entire settlement process. We only place your business with insurers who offer the best overall package of long-term financial stability, broad coverage, competitive and consistent premiums, and a proven claims payment record. You can be assured when appointing MBAIS (WA) as your broker, we only use reputable Insurers who can be relied upon, and who we can work with on difficult and/or complex matters. Insurance Broking Services MBAIS takes service to another level in the manner in which we care for our customers. Our intimate understanding of the building and construction industry has previously led to the development of many innovative and exclusive insurance solutions tailored specifically for the industry. The value MBAIS brings to your business and the types of services we offer is multifaceted as summarised below:

We are renowned for helping builders grow their businesses in a controlled manner. For commercial builders, we offer the complete suite of relevant covers, including motor fleet, professional indemnity, management liability and surety bonds. Our dedicated MBAIS construction works and third party liability wordings provide extra coverage, which can’t be purchased elsewhere in the Australian market.
