Following significant renovation works, this wine-producing château, located 15 minutes from Bordeaux in the direction of Libourne, has four beautiful guest rooms decorated with a “family home” feel, they are spacious (between 30 and 70m2), equipped with private bathroom and WC, and digital flat screen televisions. They all overlook a park with a hundred-year old redwood against a backdrop of vines. The room prices include a visit to the wine and cask storehouses, and tasting two local wines. The château also offers an oenological workshop and guided tours, a golf and wine holiday or even a cycling tour, leaving from the château, for an alternative way to discover the vineyard.
Make your own wine If you want to be an œnologist for a day, after visiting the vineyard and storehouses, you can discover wine using your nose: by familiarising yourself with the typical aromas of a Bordeaux wine, by tasting the merlot and cabernet sauvignon grapes separately. Then, supplied with test tubes and pipettes, you can create a blend to your taste and leave with the bottle which you have created, branded with its personalised label. Rate: €55 / person for 4 to 12 people.
Test your swing on the two nearby courses If you like golf, the château can make reservations for you at two of the most beautiful courses in the region, less than 10 minutes from the estate. Bordeaux-Cameyrac golf course is a flat, exact and technical 18-hole course, with a border of vines and hundred-year old trees. You can enjoy a typical South West lunch on the club house’s terrace. Also available: 9 holes, tennis court, swimming pool, equestrian centre. www.golf-bordeaux-cameyrac.com
Teynac golf course is a rustic and authentic course. On the club house terrace, with a panoramic view over the course, you can taste homemade dishes. Special green fee for guests at the Château Lavergne Dulong. www.golf-teynac.com
Leaving the château on foot or by bike (mountain bike), there is a 6km route through the vines and the village of Montussan. Mountain bike rental on site: €15/bike ■ Contact www.chateau-lavergne-dulong.com 1

[WINE TOURISM ] “A la carte” wine tourism at Château Siaurac
The château has put a programme of activities and workshops in place. Whether you are a new or experienced enthusiast, individual or professional, you can enjoy gourmet visits here and combine your choice of menu with your choice of tasting, start with a single or complete tasting, participate in a sense workshop, a creation workshop, a workshop in the “Agreement of Bordeaux dishes-wines” workshop, or even a seasonal cookery course given by a young and talented Bordeaux chef.

Château Siaurac is the largest estate in the Lalande de Pomerol appelation, close to Saint-Emilion. This château won the Best of Wine Tourism gold award in the Discovery and Innovation category, at the 2012 network of Large Vineyard Capitals network.
The most innovative is the opportunity to create your own “à la carte” programme. For all visits, tastings, workshops, themed days, seminars, receptions, all you have to do is choose from the various options
which ones you would like, specify the time and budget that you have and you will receive a made-to-measure response. You will find all the information at www.chateausiaurac.com
Road trip in Entre-deux-Mers If you are a wine tourism enthusiast, nine wine routes will lead you from estate to estate through the Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur, Entredeux-Mers, Côtes de Bordeaux, Cadillac, Loupiac, Sainte-Croix du Mont and Entre-deux-Mers Haut Benauge appellations, forming the Entredeux-Mers sector, a hilly region located between the Garonne and the Dordogne rivers. From Créon to Saint-Macaire, through SauveMajeure and Sauveterre-de-Guyenne, you will discover an impressive succession of châteaux, abbeys, country houses and old villages among the vines. You can do a short tasting break using a road map accessible on Google Maps or available in tourist offices. Go and find information at the Entre-deux-Mers Tourist Office.
In Gironde, many wine growing estates offer activities especially designed for children. No risk of them being bored while you enjoy the visits and tastings organised for the adults. Also at château Tire-Pé in Gironde-sur-Dropt, children can discover the vineyard in an original way by pony trekking through the rows of vines.

In Cadaujac, at château des Bardins, follow “Charlotte’s Routes” with your family, a nice map of routes which suggests themed Bordeaux wine routes in several châteaux, like château Soutard, which offers an exclusive children’s visit, château Agassac (see News from Aquitaine Autumn 2011), château Moulin de Peyronin or, just recently, château des Bardins where your little ones will be welcomed by Stella and her cheery menagerie.

In the loupiac appellation, at château Dauphiné-Roudillon, “young winegrowers” workshops introduce vineyards to children through a guided tour of the château in the form of riddles. Budding young winegrowers will leave with their “perfect young winegrower book”.

The public will be able to enjoy the Bordeaux festival again from the 15 to 30 November 2012, for two weeks of creative and inventive excitement.Theatre, dance, music, the creations are often put on in incongruous places, as was the case in the submarine base or the old abattoirs. In 2012, the programme organisation was entrusted to Frédéric Maragnani, talent scout.

It’s a “rendez-vous” not to be missed, which blossoms in autumn and which is held on the last weekend of October every year. Get caught up in the unique atmosphere of these two festive days which will take place along rue NotreDame, one of the most picturesque streets in Bordeaux, in the heart of the famous Chartrons quarter, established by Bordeaux merchants. ■ Contact www.bordeaux-tourisme.com

SUMMER 2012
Charming, romantic, unusual… Brantôme, is a little like the Venice of Aquitaine with the romanticism of the meandering Dronne. A 16th century mill, located in the heart of Périgord blanc on the banks of the Dronne which crosses through the park, has been restored and converted into a charming hotel. The whole family has worked there and continues to welcome you. The decor of the spacious rooms combines current trends with authenticity (old furniture). On site, an elegant restaurant, with stoves, the father of the family is a cook by trade, who had a restaurant in Brantôme before acquiring the mill.
The former girls school in Penne d’Agenais, an imposing, threestorey building, was converted into a charming and elegant guest house, called Gîtes de France. Established on the hillside, it offers, from the playground, an outstanding view over the Lot valley. The decor of the four spacious and personalised rooms and family suit, accommodating 2 to 6 people, evokes the former school with little details, like their names, the Dormitory, Literary, Artistic, Scientific, History-Geography. The medieval village of Penne d’Agenais, a stop on the Saint Jacques of Compostelle route, will bring a smile to the faces of history, arts, walking and food enthusiasts. Rates: From €50 to 120 depending on the number of people, breakfast included.
Tarifs : Chambres de 120 à 290 €. Petit déjeuner continental : 16 €. Demi-pension (séjour supérieur à 2 nuits) : supplément de 55 €/pers. (petit déjeuner et un repas). ■ Contact

New life for the lock keepers’ houses (47)
The owners opened four guest rooms in their 17th century house, which is mirrored in the river Baïse, in the heart of the Vianne fortified town. Only the Vianne room is brightened with a hint of raspberry. Communal dinner on request. Rates: From 80 to 95 Euros per night for B&B for 2 people. Communal dinner: €35 (children under 10: 14€)

This is how lock keeper house n°33 became the Poule à Vélo Inn, an original, gourmet and pastoral address about twelve kilometres from Agen. Two elegant rooms with a canal view occupy the floor, and a restaurant, bar and little boutique fill the ground floor. On the menu: Quality, local produce and friendliness. As for lock keeper house n°42, called La Choppe et le Pichet, after little renovation, it offers a bistro and service point for cyclists.
