Like every odd-number year, 2013 will be the year of the River Festival. This year, it will take place earlier, from 24 May to 2 June, to coincide with the start of the Solitaire de Figaro, a unique departure from the river which will last longer than usual, with 10 days of celebrations. The legendary race will have two stages in Gironde: Bordeaux and Pauillac. The magnificent sail boats and their yachtsman will reach the Gironde estuary after navigating the difficult waters of the Garonne, then out to high-sea, before heading towards the Iberian peninsula. The race village will be set up in the heart of Bordeaux, along the quays between the Pont de Pierre and the Miroir d’eau, opposite the Palais de la Bourse. During the week leading up to the departure, it will be possible to meet the skippers as well as see their boats. In 2011, the River Festival received 250,000 visitors. These two events in one, a party for the people and a legendary sporting event cannot be missed if you like to have a good time, enjoy sport, incredible boats and music from around the world. www.bordeauxfetelefleuve.com
