SPRING 2010
[ CAMPSITE ACCOMMODATION ] 2010 campsites: water recreation takes pride of place! One of the great pleasures of camping is enjoying the aquatic recreational facilities that a campsite has to offer. A number of campsites in the Aquitaine region have decided to invest in this particular area, which is enjoyed by children and adults alike. The desire for rest and relaxation has also prompted some campsites to create spa areas devoted to wellbeing. An example of this investment can be seen at Camping les Grands Pins situated near Lacanau on the Gironde coast. In 2009, this 4-star seaside campsite (just 350 metres from the beach) created an 800m2 aquatic area known as “La Baïne”, comprising a lagoon, an outdoor river, large beach areas, a terrace and a solarium. There is also an area of “huts on stilts” offering indoor heated pools, a jacuzzi, bench and massage walkway and a wellbeing area with fitness room, sauna, Turkish bath and jet shower, to complete the offering.
Campsites go green Aquitaine has been successfully addressing environmental conservation for a number of years, with many of the region’s campsites committed to the development of sustainable tourism, notably via eco-design of their facilities. A number of campsites have recently obtained European certifications in recognition of their efforts. Situated between the sea and mountains in Saint-Jean-de-Luz in the Basque country, the 4-star Camping Tamaris Plage obtained the European eco-campsite label, offering showers with water heated using solar panels and practicing rainwater collection. With 79 pitches and 40 accommodation units, it offers direct access to Mayarco beach and is located close to a number of shops.
