In 2012, Clément Fayat, owner of Château La Dominique, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé, in the north-west appellation, asked the architect Jean Nouvel to draw up plans for a new wine cellar and reception arrangements, including a tasting room on the roof of the wine cellar.

To dress the place and evoke the three themes of wine, wine-making and wine-tasting, Jean Nouvel took his inspiration from the idea of reverse mirrors of the British artist Anish Kapoor.

The wine cellar is dressed in sombre red steel strips, evoking the colour of wine.The Château now has various reception rooms designed by the architect and a restaurant for 250 people that extends along a panoramic terrace with

exceptional views across the neighbouring vineyards: Cheval Blanc, L’Evangile, La Conseillante and Figeac.

Bordeaux is part of the network of 10 « Best of Wine Tourism » capitals. For the eleventh edition of the international competition, 16 properties have been rewarded.

Among the winners are six Best of d’Or and one Coup de Coeur.

In the « Architecture and Countryside category », Château de la Dauphine won the prize for Best of d’Or. In the « Accommodation at the property » category, it was Château du Tertre, while Château Gravas won the « Art and Culture » category. Château Larose Trintaudon took the « Development of wine tourism environmental techniques » prize, Château Larrivet Haut-Brion won « Discovery and innovation », and Château de Rouillac won the « Wine tourism services » category.

Wine Inn Tour, an association of 6 Médoc wine tourism service providers (wine growers, owners of guest houses and a river transport provider) who came together to help people discover the treasures of their land between vineyards and estuaries and guarantee a personal welcome.

Launched in Bordeaux in 2002, the competition now operates in 10 regions of the world famous for their vineyards, united through a network of major wine « capitals » (the Great Wine Global Network*). On 7 November in the Napa Valley, Château de Rouillac, already a winner in Bordeaux, was the only French estate, amongst the nine domains (out of 350 candidates) to win, receiving an International Best of Wine Tourism Award 2014.

quality tourist services are essentially reserved for companies. In this environment surrounded by history, introductions to wine tasting, cookery workshops or vineyard visits (by 4x4 or carriage) are complemented, amongst other activities, by the professional seminars which are organised there.

The awards received in 2014 are an invitation to discover Bordeaux’s most beautiful wine tourism sites, whether through private visits or seminars.

This free app is available in various languages: French, English, German, Spanish, Dutch, Italian, Russian, Portuguese, Japanese and Chinese.

However, so far, not all content has been translated into all these languages.

The website complements the practical information with presentations on the different vineyards.

To get up there, you just have to climb the steps of the beautiful winding staircase, extended by a 9 metre long walkway. Hiking and cycling in the heart of Béarn

Around 20 pedestrian-only trails and 6 walking and cycling trails mean you can cross the countryside on foot or by bike. Walkers can use photo-illustrated guidebooks and reviews and maps which are available from Cœur de Béarn Tourist Office (€6). Precise information on the difficulty of the routes (from easiest to

most difficult) helps you find the most suitable walk.

Cyclists can ride on around a dozen routes with a free card also available from the Cœur de Béarn Tourist Office in Monein.

Interpretive trails tell the history, architecture and cultural heritage of this area. For those who have an adventurous spirit, part of the interpretive trail of Lendresse, in Mont, allows for the exploration of nature and introduction to fishing. It is also an opportunity to visit the surrounding villages and towns, and the church of Monein which contains a wooden roof

itiAQUI, the app for discovering Aquitaine by engine-free travel For visiting the region using non-motorised methods such as hiking, horse riding, cycling, river tours and canoeing. All information is

available on the itiAQUI app.

Once connected, whether on the move or not, you can search for a route using various criteria, by means of transport, localisation, duration, level of difficulty and theme. Having selected a route, information is available on the chosen circuit, the departure point, distance, a brief description, stages and key points of interest, aerial photos, and it can all be tracked on a background map.

Today, 224 routes are available.

The user can also save their favourite routes, upload photos, videos, reviews and share them on social networks and keep track of experiences through the account.

ItiAQUI is the only app of its kind to offer, for free, when online, various map collections from the IGN TOP 25 of the entire region along with recent aerial photos (2013) accurate to almost 50cm.

Capital of the Bergerac vineyards, on the border of the Dordogne, Bergerac has conserved its exceptional Renaissance heritage. Getting the City of Art and History label acknowledges the efforts of the town and its residents in preserving its cultural heritage and way of life.

Remember that this year, Bergerac will

welcome the 19th stage of the Tour de France on 25 July and be the departure town of the 20th on 26 July, for the only time trial of the Tour de France 2014. It’s another reason to come and discover its heritage.

Discovery trails of the great « cingles » (natural viewpoints)

With roads that climb to the top of the cingles, particularly those of Limeuil and Trémolat, the natural viewpoints reveal a unique panorama over the region. The view stretches 180 degrees over the two almost perfectly symmetrical loops.

Fall under the charm of the Jardins Panoramiques de Limeuil

Come and admire the magnificent English gardens of Limeuil. Situated where the old château overlooked the village, they offer a breathtaking panoramic view of where the Dordogne and Vézère rivers join. It was in the 19th century that Dr Linarès from Périgord,

Located 40km from Bergerac, Monpazier is a masterpiece of architecture and town planning.

A trip to the Bastideum de Monpazier will take you back in time and immerse you in the Middle Ages. In 1284, the Duke of Aquitaine and King Edward I of England founded a small new town on a hill overlooking the Dropt valley. The north wing, dedicated to art of the 19th and 20th century, welcomes a new showcase of the works of Delacroix - Greece on the Ruins of Missolonghi is the guardian masterpiece of the museum - Bouguereau, Corot, Boudin.

Fine food [ ] Joël Robuchon in Bordeaux: discover a preview of « L’Atelier » You really must make a note of this new address, « l’Atelier », the new fine dining restaurant from Joël Robuchon, the highest ranking chef in the world with 25 stars, who has decided to open a new restaurant in Bordeaux.

Joël Robuchon first applied his talents in France with his first Parisian restaurant, which was crowned « Best Restaurant in the World » in 1994 by the International Herald Tribune.

He continued his career by opening other

restaurants in major cities across different continents (Tokyo, Hong Kong, Las Vegas, New York, London etc…).

Ideally located just a few steps from the canal, the dining and guest house of « Font d’Uzas » within a pretty building where old and contemporary styles blend together well, are a choice stop-off to take a break from the long green route.

In the kitchen, there is Christian Mengual, an experienced cook, who learnt his trade at the French Embassy in London. He will show you his treasures from the market. TRANSPORT [ ] New flights Zurich-Bordeaux with Helvetic Airways From 8 May 2014 until 19 October, the Swiss company Helvetic Airways will offer a new route between Zurich and Bordeaux, its only destination in France. Two flights per week operated a priori with 100 seats in a Fokker 100 aircraft making Zurich reachable from Bordeaux in 1 hour 40 minutes.

The Thursday flight will depart at 1:15pm to arrive at 2:55pm, and at 3:40pm from Bordeaux to land in Switzerland at 5:20pm. The Sunday turnaround leaves Switzerland at 6:15pm to land at 7:55pm, with a return at 8:40pm (arriving at 10:20pm). www.helvetic.com
