Return to Campus // CAMPUS SERVIC E S U P DAT E So much has changed for Campus Services in recent months. For all of us, this means new protocols in how we provide our services the best way possible. We feel it’s important to share with you the steps we've taken, and the enhanced measures we’ve implemented to keep students, our employees and the greater Miami community safe and healthy. Since last March we've closely followed the guidelines and recommendations of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and local governments. When new guidelines are updated, CS has proactively responded. We've also independently reached out to the Butler County Health Department for a walk-though of our spaces to make sure we're aligned with local protocols. Every step of the process from the entrance to exit from the guest's perspective was detailed with the Health Inspector. Below are the actions we've taken: • 6-foot markings on the floor in front of the registers • No contact payment, our new Cashless Campus program • Cashiers wearing mask and face shield • 6-foot markings and arrows guiding the guest to follow social distance guidelines • All items will be served, no self-service • Lines to designate the 6-foot distance between servers and guests • Arrangement of tables and reduction of seating per guidelines • X markings on booths • We are using compostable carry out packaging • We will have a Wellness Ambassador helping to clean tables and direct guests • Sanitation stations at dining locations • Guests and employees will be required to wear masks at all times inside or when they are unable to social distance while out of doors • We will have GET mobile ordering to better serve our guests and to help with social distancing

Brick & Ivy Relaunch // R E TA I L UPDATE

Brick & Ivy has a new look! Over the summer, Campus Services Marketing began working with the Brick & Ivy staff to put together a rebranding plan. Ultimately, the goal was to improve not only the shopping experience but also create an updated look to represent the Brick & Ivy brand! Moving forward, Brick & Ivy will focus on the lifestyle of a Miami student and community member. As the official campus store of Miami University, cultivating a library of photos highlighting these key demographics is a top priority. Additionally, Brick & Ivy is operating as the sole location on the Oxford campus included in this transition the 1809 outlet has been centralized to the single Brick & Ivy location– the two regional stores will be transitioned to on-campus Brick & Ivy Basics vending machines, providing students and the community with the essential items. The Oxford store offers curbside pick-up in addition to shipping any additional items directly to the customer at home.

Wellness Ambassador Program // F&B UPDATE

Moving into fall semester, Food & Beverage has created a new student position called the Wellness Ambassadors. The overall mission of the position is to enforce the safety and improve the experience of F&B customers and create an awareness of health and safety protocol and the resources available to every guest. This position will assist in the communication and facilitation of COVID 19 protocol of cleaning, sanitation stations, and disinfecting procedures

moving forward within all F&B operations. Another key aspect of this position will be to inform customers regarding changes like the use of compostable to-go containers in Commons locations, employee served Commons dining, GET online ordering options, and information on the cashless processes. Look for these Wellness Ambassadors the next time you are dining on campus; they will be sporting bright green hats to distinguish themselves from a crowd.

As we prepare for the semester to start we continue to see uncertainty in our communities and our country. We have taken all of the precautions necessary to be successful and have followed the recommendations of the CDC, Governor Dewine's office and the Health

Department. Out of an abundance of caution we invited the Butler County Health Department to campus to review our processes and were given a very good review. We have accomplished a lot during the summer and all of our hard work has been recognized and accepted. I look forward to the semester starting and to welcoming everyone back to campus. See you soon Geno Svec Executive Director of Campus Services Chief Hospitality Officer

Marcum Hotel Update In order to provide great care and safety for on-campus students in the fall, the Marcum Hotel and Conference Center will be closing to guests and will instead be available to assist in COVID isolation procedures. The conference center use will also be put on hold for fall semester in order to devote all Marcum resources to maintain a healthy and safe environment for students, faculty and staff.

Pawpaws! Last year Chef Amy introduced me to this incredibly amazing fruit from her backyard pawpaw tree. Wow! Am I just being oblivious or is this one of the best kept secrets in our food world? The trees are native throughout our region and are often growing wild in our local woods. The fruit ripens at the end of the summer – August thru late September. Pawpaws themselves are nothing much to look at, but, cut one open and the inside is bright yellow. And, the flavor is out of this world – tasting like a tropical mash-up of mango, banana and citrus. It has been described as “sunny” and “electric”. So, what exactly can you do with a pawpaw? Of course they’re delicious just to eat as is (peeled & deseeded). They’re great in smoothies and ice cream. It doesn’t do well when heated – but, there’s always exceptions – it works really well in baked goods. Weasel Boy Brewing in Zanesville brews a seasonal ale with pawpaws – aptly named, Weasel Paw Pawpaw Pale Ale. And, I’ve just discovered a new excursion to put on my bucket list – The Pawpaw Fest held annually (ok, not this year) in mid-September at Lake Snowdon, Albany, Ohio. (New Albany is the home to the world’s largest pawpaw producer.) If you’ve never eaten one, don’t pass up the opportunity to enjoy this treat – whether you find a pawpaw tree out in the woods or, if you’re lucky, being sold at the local farmer’s market. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Getting Creative During Covid Back in June we showcased the many talents and hobbies you and your family have taken on during these unusual times. Bryan Gutridge has provided us a few updates from family over the last few months.

Every morning I work with my daughters (3 and 7) on little school lessons. Each day we start out by choosing a new country to explore. We check out major sites and listen to their national anthem before doing some quick history and discussion of their culture. We spent most of the summer in Africa but recently have dug into South America. Next up is Asia.

Garden update. We have been successful in our zucchini and cucumbers but not so much with our broccoli and cauliflower. We have already harvested all our radishes, salad greens, and snap peas. We are about to pull a bunch to get ready for a replanting of late summer veggies and just got our lemon seeds to sprout. The girls love going out every morning to see what has grown.
