Fulfilling a Dream
// MU RETA IL We can all remember the feeling of getting that first piece of spirit wear from our university or putting on our cap and gown for the first time. During this unique time, that experience has changed completely for our students, leaving many of them uncertain about what the future holds. However, thanks to our dedicated staff at the Miami campus stores and others, our students will not miss out on any of these opportunities. Chris Ferchen, Kelly Adelman, Ashley Kammer, Nicole Byrd, along with Joey Yerace, Sally Shephard, Amy Allen, Carey Higgins Matt McRoberts, Anne Liston and Robin Jackson have been working hard over the past week to process more than 600 web orders ranging from graduation gifts, caps and gowns, and general Miami spirit wear. Their dedication to ensuring that everyone – from graduating seniors to incoming first-year students – gets that once in a lifetime experience has not gone unnoticed. Students will now be able to put on their first Miami shirt and proudly show where they chose to continue their education. Others still have the opportunity to wear their well-deserved cap and gown – letting the feeling of accomplishment settle in as they finally become an alumnus of Miami University. To all our dedicated Campus Services staff: thank you for all of the hard work in making these once in a lifetime experiences come true.

// F OOD & BEV ERAG E UPDATE All Event Services and Market unclassified staff have pitched in with sharing shifts to help keep Emporium open for our students during the campus closure. Wayne Odell, Neila Hanges, Susan Coleman, Amy Poppel, Alicia Rizzo, Amy Wentzell, Paula Green, Diana Byrd, and Bryan Gutridge have been working for the last 4 weeks. The team has been utilizing the product at the other markets to keep Emporium stocked and the students are grateful that we have remained open. Emporium has averaged 30-40 customers a day and implemented self checkout with marked areas on the floor to keep the social distancing in place. It is just one more way that our dedicated Campus Services team steps up to make our students feel comfortable while still on campus. Thank you everyone! Amy Wentzell in front of Emporium

A big thank you to the staff who have helped out at Pulley Diner over the past month! They have played a critical role in maintaining service for the remaining students and staff on campus.
Some very appreciative students dropped off cookies for everyone working at ASC to thank them for all they are doing.

Herb Gardening With Chef Ginny Thiell // F OOD & BE V E RAG E U PDAT E
All Digital Orientation // M ARK E T I N G UP DAT E Campus will just not be the same without the excitement of our new student orientation visitors this summer. Orientation for the incoming class of 2024 will experience a remote, online orientation. Although not the ideal format, we do however have the opportunity to share our friendly customer service, our exceptional food, beautiful residence halls and retail stores through a series of online videos and presentations. These online resources will still ensure that our incoming students see all that Campus Services is here to do for them as they make Miami their new home.
A series of online question and answer sessions will also be set up for families and students to become engaged with members of our Campus Services team. Many staff members of Campus Services will be personal resources for questions ranging from what are approved items to bring while living in a residence hall to how would one manage food allergies. Together we can ensure that Campus Services will continue to take care of all our guests as we face this unprecedented orientation session.
First Year Room Selection
// H OUS I N G UPDAT E
Thanks to the help of our various computer systems, the Campus Services Center was able to continue with room selection for rising second year students while working remotely during March and April. Students were able to go through the room selection process using our online housing system just like any other
year. With the help of Team Dynamix, our new customer relation software, we were able to answer hundreds of questions and help students through the process. So far, more than 3250 rising second year students have chosen their room for next year, and we are looking forward to having them back!
MAY 10TH To all mothers past, present or soon to be may your day be filled with happiness and love. If you're lucky enough to have a Mom in your life, reach out to her and don't forget to show her how much you appreciate her. Happy Mother’s Day to every mom out there and thank you!
Interested in growing herbs at home? Here are a few tips to get you there. Growing culinary herbs is easy whether you have a big garden or a few pots on your apartment balcony. The secret is to replicate the same kind of Mediterranean environment from which they originate. Give them 6 hours of sun, moderate watering and well-drained ‘lean’ soil, which is not heavily fertilized. Don’t overdo the water-they hate soggy feet! Begin with small potted plants rather than starting herbs from seed. With so many varieties available it is may be easiest to begin with traditional varieties like sweet basil (Genovese), common thyme and Italian or Mexican oregano. Some herbs will come back every year (thyme), others are annuals (basil) and others like to keep you guessing (sage). You can harvest your herbs throughout the season – it will make both you and your plant happy! Wishing you a bountiful herb garden!

As many of you know, Red Zone does a hot dog recipe contest monthly. Students, faculty, and staff enter their favorite hot dog ideas and the winners are displayed on the Top Dogs wall in Red Zone. Last month, F&B decided to keep the contest going with a Red Zone Contest: Home Edition. Maddie Paul and Joey Yerace made some of the past winning dogs to encourage social media followers to make their favorite dogs from home, and continue to think of more exciting ideas. Do you have a hot dog recipe idea you would like to enter?
