Return to School & Earn Your High School Diploma at IAS Ombudsman - Culinary High What is Culinary High? The Institute for Accelerated Studies Ombudsman operates five campuses for the Clark County School District. The Culinary High program, part of IAS Ombudsman, provides students with a new option for earning a high school diploma. Students, who have dropped out of high school and have a family member as part of the Culinary Union, can enroll at no cost. The program combines a blended learning model with personal support and face-to-face instruction from caring, highly qualified teachers; and a condensed four-hour school day to provide time for work and family obligations.
Who Can Attend Culinary High? Students are eligible to attend Culinary High if they are under the age of 20, dropped out of high school, have a family member in the Culinary Union, and want to earn a high school diploma.
What is the class day like? The class day at Culinary High is flexible and convenient. Students: Attend one of three sessions (7 a.m. – 11 a.m. or 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Monday―Friday, and 3 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday―Thursday), which allows time for family and work responsibilities; Follow a prescribed learning path in a technology-rich environment; Work in a small classroom setting and receive one-on-one attention; Develop meaningful relationships with teachers who care about them and can help them succeed; and Collaborate on group projects and learning activities guided by caring, qualified teachers.
What do students learn? Culinary High is aligned to state standards and students earn the credits they need to graduate with a high school diploma. Students follow a learning path developed exclusively for them.
What can students expect? Students can expect to be successful and to earn the credits they need to graduate from high school. Graduates have the diploma and the skills they need to enroll in college, join the workforce or go wherever their dreams take them.
