Congressman Joins Workers in Stations Fight
opular Illinois U.S. Congressman Luis Gutierrez, at the invitation of Local 226, recently visited the Culinary Union to support Station Casinos workers in their fight with the company for a fair process to decide whether to be represented by the Union. The rally held in the Union’s upstairs meeting hall was attended by several hundred Stations workers and union activists. Gutierrez, a Congressman from Illinois, spoke about the rights of workers, respect on the job, decent wages, benefits and the right to organize a union. Gutierrez has long been a champion of working families. He previously served on the Chicago City Council beginning in 1986 until his election to the U.S. Congress in 1993 and throughout his life of public service he has been a strong supporter of workers rights to organize. “I feel very lucky to have an important Congressman such as Mr. Gutierrez take the time to talk to us and Station Casinos is accused of over 165 violations of federal labor laws which give us his support. He said he would come back again have fallen most heavily on Latino workers, women and other minorities. It is a soon to help us with our fight at Station Casinos.” plan that will fail.
