WHERE STYLE AND QUALITY MEET Downstairs W G Tarrant is one of Surrey’s finest and most renowned house builders. Famed for developing the St Georges Hill and Wentworth estates, he also built the first 20 houses on what became known as The Hockering. The house features his ‘logo’ - a stone tablet engraved with his initials, WGT. It was also mentioned in his biography and furthermore is listed as a building of architectural interest with Woking Borough Council. The first eye-catching feature is surely the impressive oak front door and decorative surround, probably created from hand-built tiles and bricks from Tarrants nearby brickfields in Chobham. Once inside a sense of quality abounds from the original exposed timber and joinery from the flooring to the internal doors & architraves and the staircase. The principal drawing room is believed to have been built as a ball-room, and is simply breathtaking in its size and also brightness, featuring windows or doors to each four orientations. The sitting room is more of an every-day room and includes a lovely snug area where the brick surround gas coal effect fireplace resides. Leaded windows and doors lead onto the gardens. There is a separate dining room, again with brick surround fireplace and also a very spacious study. The kitchen/breakfast room has a farmhouse feel about it and is fitted with a bespoke range of antique pine units including a pine dresser, all complemented by granite work-surfaces. A utility room, downstairs shower-room and a further adaptable room (formerly the maidsroom), all off the kitchen, complete the downstairs picture. Upstairs Upstairs, all 5 bedrooms are double rooms. The master includes an en-suite bathroom and all the bedrooms have there own unique fireplace and a hand basin. There is a family bathroom and a separate shower-room Externally Outside, the gardens are beautifully maintained and the overall plot size extends to0.55 of an acre. The house is shielded from the road by mature hedging and a long graveled driveway leads to an expanse of parking to the fore of the house. It also provides access to the double width garage block with electronic door. Behind the garage is an annexe area that would benefit from some modernisation, but could make a lovely suite. The formal grounds are in the main lawned with various mature shrubs and trees. There is a large loggia adjacent to the house providing shade in the summer.

Woking

Woking The name Hockering comes from a small village in Norfolk where the Smallpiece family (the original owners of the land) once lived. In 1904/5 they started laying out the new estate on their land, but it was not long before they realised that perhaps they had “bitten off more than they could chew” and reached and agreement with Mr W G Tarrant. The Hockering is considered by most to be Woking’s foremost private development. With its own residents association it really is a wonderful area in which to live with tree lined roads revealing glimpses of high quality neighbouring homes. The joy of its position is in close proximity of Woking train station which offers one of the best services to London Waterloo in the south east. It is just under a mile distant. Woking offers a wide range of transport (including a regular coach service to Heathrow from the station), shopping and leisure facilities including the New Victoria Theatre and multi-screen cinema.

Nearby Woking Park is a short distance away and there are wonderful leafy walks on Horsell Common or slightly further afield in the Surrey Hills.
