Letter from the Publisher Dear Reader...
In this issue the primary focus is about health for your hair, skin, body, overall health. We will show you healthy habits you can all incorporate into your everyday lives, to start you on the road to good health. I want to talk about the importance of making connections. Do you remember when you graduated from High School or College? Do you remember applying for your first job and being overlooked because you lacked experience? If you are like me, you then asked yourself, “How am I expected to obtain experience if no one will give me an opportunity”? Everyone deserves an opportunity, especially if they are trying to reach a destination and you can do something to help them get there! When we graduate, often times we have exaggerated views about our first job and the potential earnings. What is most important here is that your first job gives you some of the skills you will need to help you in reaching your destination. Life is about the journey, the destination and life is not easy. I think we all should shoulder some responsibility in making it a little bit better for those who cross our paths in life, looking for guidance, maybe even looking for hope, we are all in a position to do so. There is so much more that we can all do to help and support one another. Networking is about making connections and building enduring, mutually beneficial relationships and relationships are the catalyst for success. I am so very grateful to have my core network of powerful woman that encourage and support me with my publication. People are not always what we expect or want them to be. We will be disappointed or let down by people and situations, it is a part of life. No matter your capacity, status or title, every day we should all try to do something good to empower another person. Often times it cost you nothing to support, mentor or promote your fellow man or woman. We are all faced with obstacles, I am not immune either, but I don’t let that sway my faith in people, humanity or my God. Today’s climate is difficult to define, so much violence, an upcoming election like we have never seen before and way too many incidents of blatant discrimination. I cannot change the world, nor am I trying to, all I ask is that you HELP WHEN YOU CAN!!! We are such powerful people, we are influencers, and the masses follow our lead because we are trendsetters, yet we still don’t realize our power. We can all do a better job for each other, myself included. Having a healthy loving spirit towards others can be contagious, so let’s try to do a better job. SUPPORT WHEN YOU CAN!! MENTOR WHEN YOU CAN!! LOVE WHEN YOU CAN!! HELP WHEN YOU CAN!! Realize your power and use it for the great of good not to criticize or minimize but to uplift. I leave you with two quotes:
“Girls compete with each other. Women empower one another.”
“Never look down on someone unless you are helping them up.”

Q&A Make-up

Q.
I look at a lot of You Tube videos and I am fascinated by this method that is referred to as “baking”. I don’t like to wear a lot of make-up, but the end result looks flawless. Is there really a benefit to “baking” your make up? Tia- California
A.
Hi Tia! Great question! The benefit to “baking” is creating a bolder more pronounced highlight effect under the eyes and along the cheekbones. It’s a secret that has been used by makeup professionals for years and “you tubers” have discovered it and put a name to it. It’s a wonderful method to use for a popping highlight!
Q.
I enjoy trying tricks when it comes to lipstick, I especially like the Ombre lip technique. In the morning when you are preparing to go to work, time is generally on your side, after lunch during the work week, this look is hard to duplicate for the average working woman. Is there a quick and easy way to achieve this look that you can recommend? Natalie – Syracuse
A.
Hi Natalie! I love an ombre lip! Unfortunately, in order to achieve this look you have to take the time to get it right! You can always use a darker lip liner to fill in your whole lip, then add a lighter shade of lipstick to the center of your upper and lower lip. It doesn’t create an ombre necessarily, but it will give you similar dimension.
8 September/October 2016
Q.
I have never heard the term “strobing” until recently. Described as the super highlight technique, it looks great on the demonstrations I have viewed. There are so many products on the market, it’s hard to decide which product is the best product. Based on prices ranging from low to high, can you offer 3 product suggestions? Bella - Brooklyn, NY
A.
Hi Bella! Love this question! The 3 products I recommend to create this look are Strobe cream for its illumination, Prep & Prime Highlighter Pen to create your highlight and Mineralized Skinfinish in the shade of your liking for the finishing touch. All of these products are from MAC Cosmetics.
Q.
Hi Shavonna, I have a three part question; can you tell me the difference between a cream eyeshadow versus powder eyeshadow. Cream eyeshadow feels very dramatic and I am unsure if this shadow is best for evening or intended for day time wear and can you blend the two? Danielle – Texas
Q.
As I age my skin is looking and feeling rough. I have always used soap and water to cleanse my face, but now feel like I need to take seriously purchasing a cleanser or committing to a product line before it is too late. I have oily skin, can you recommend a cleanser that gets the job done for my skin type? Tamala – California
A.
Hi Tamala! Great question! Skin care is everything! And the most important part of preservation! As we age, although we may be oily, moisture balance is the key! The products I love for preserving oily skin are made by a brand called CeraVe. The foaming cleanser, AM Moisturizer and PM Moisturizer are amazing! They contain hyaluronic acid which is an essential component in refining the texture of the skin, boosting, firming, and balancing moisture. Everything you need to get that beautiful skin you desire!
A.
Hi Danielle! Great question! Cream shadow is more concentrated with a higher pigment payoff. It works amazing by itself or as a base for a powder eyeshadow. Powder eyeshadow works great by itself, as well as in combination with cream shadows. I definitely use them both together day and night, just depending on the look I’m trying to achieve. Let your creativity flow!

Q&A Hair

Q.
I have heard that you should flat iron your natural hair a few times a year, to distribute the oils that our follicles naturally produce. If I wanted to flat iron my coils, what steps and products would you recommend for doing it at home? Daja – Tennessee
A.
Hello Daja, I think it’s a great styling option to flat iron your hair or better yet going to a professional that understands your curls is highly recommended. Natural oils that are produced on the scalp generally don’t make it down to the mid lengths and ends because we don’t brush our hair daily to bring them down. With that said applying a natural oil such as coconut oil or something that you prefer is good for your hair. If you do choose to flat iron your hair at home get all of your supplies together, set aside a few hours and take your time. A good flat iron style starts with the shampoo and conditioning treatment you select for your hair condition. Sectioning the hair is important as well so that you have control of the hair. Always use a heat protectant prior to drying and detangle before drying. The best brushes to use are a paddle brush (Aveda has my favorite) or Denman. Lastly when you are flat ironing target the root area first before pressing the ends. Then reduce the heat and continue to smooth the ends. Ultimately, I prefer that you seek out a professional to do the work for you due to the risk of heat damage. Good luck!
Q.
I know that hair shedding is normal, but how much shedding is the right amount? Angelica - Connecticut
A.
Angelica, as you know shedding is a natural occurrence. In theory we naturally shed up to 180 strands per day. (that was written in the cosmetology text books decades ago). As long as your hair is not balding, or breaking off while doing at home hair care then you have no worries.
Q.
I have wavy/fine hair and too much product weighs my hair down. My hair seems brittle and I recently read that this is a sign of dehydrated hair. Can you suggest a regimen that I can try to hydrate my strands? Michelle - Michigan
A.
Hello Michelle, Yes keeping fine hair hydrated can be a challenge. There are a few staple products that I recommend. Once or twice per month use a hair detoxifying shampoo followed by a moisturizing shampoo then treat the hair with a deep conditioner. If you can work a steamer into your budget for at home use then sit under the steamer with your treatment for longer lasting hydration. Adding this into your routine will help tremendously! Good luck!
Q.
Not all naturals believe in the hair typing method, I happen to be one of them. Hair typing like 3b, 4c and so on, to me, gets in the way of figuring out what works best for your hair. It took me a long time to come to this realization, but what works for one may not work for all. What factors do you feel one should consider or are most important when trying to categorize your hair? Idania - Seattle, Washington
A.
Idania girl I’m with you! When I teach students in cosmetology school texture is my favorite subject. It’s based on science and theory. Now I’m not saying that “hair typing” isn’t relevant. I have an understanding of why it was suggested and many curly girls come into my salon asking what type of hair they have. But we educate based on the science of hair which is a lot easier to comprehend. Hair is either straight, wavy or curly and the texture (hair strand) is either fine, medium or coarse. Isn’t that easier to grasp? Thankfully hair typing has allowed curly girls to have a starting point when buying products and I see where it’s beneficial to the curl community.

Do it Yourself
DIY: 4 Ingredient; Sugar Shine Hair Treatment
What You Need:
To revitalize your hair and scalp, this sugar shine hair treatment might become and addiction to your scalp, without the calories to your body! Sugar moisturizes your hair, leaving it soft. Turbinado sugar is the ultimate sugar for moisture, due to the way that it is processed. This sugar comes from the pure cane sugar extract and is spun in a cylindrical turbine, which is the derivative of its name. The product is naturally moist from the hygroscopic nature of the molasses.
2 ½ Tablespoons of Turbinado Sugar 2 ½ Tablespoons white sugar 1 ½ Tablespoons almond oil 1 ½ Teaspoons lemon juice
(Optional) - Small shallow glass or plastic bowl
Small spoon to blend ingredients (You can use your finger as well)
Recipe & Application: Place the ingredients in a small shallow glass or plastic bowl, blend together to create a loose paste like consistency. First, shampoo your hair, we will conditioner hair later. Blend all ingredients in a bowl, gently massage ingredients into freshly shampooed hair, focusing on the scalp. Massage for 5 minutes. Rinse out treatment with luke warm water and condition and style as usual.
Additional Recommendations: Turbinado Sugar
AKA raw sugar or sugar in the raw, undergoes minimal processing. Turbinado sugar crystals are coarser than other sugars, attracts moisture and has a soft texture.
Sweet Almond Oil
Contains a high concentration of proteins, vitamins A, B and E, all of which adds shine to dull dry hair. Almond oil also contains Omega 3, Omega 6 and Omega 9 fatty oils, which help to keep hair healthy, strong and prevents breakage.
Lemon Juice
Will help give shine and elasticity to your hair.
Note: I have used this sugar shine treatment and sat under my steamer for 20 minutes with the treatment in my hair, extra…extra moisture, softness and shine. 12 September/October 2016

10 Habits for Healthy Hair always on a quest Wfore arepretty, perfect effort-
less hair. Good luck with that, it’s like finding the fountain of youth. Despite our best efforts this quest is a constant journey, but worth the trials. We struggle through a labyrinth of products and routines in order to find out what works for us. Magazines, the internet, friends, family and acquaintances, all offer up something new that we may not have yet tried. We must always keep in mind that genetics play a large role in what our individual result will be. What works for one does not necessarily work for all. With that being said, I may not be able to guide you to the fountain of youth, but there are some healthy habits that we can all adhere to which will yield positive results, no matter your genetics.
1
Proper Diet – Eating foods that are rich in protein, are great for your strands. Protein is a primary component of your hair, feeding your body is feeding your hair. Protein rich foods such as fowl, dairy, nuts and legumes are a great place to start.
2
Stay Natural – Avoid heat as often as possible and allow your hair to do what it wants to do naturally. Heat strips your hair of moisture and

we all know moisture is a curly haired girl’s best friend.
3
Vitamins & Minerals – In addition to protein, daily intake of iron, vitamin D, Zinc and B – Complex vitamins will improve hair health.
4
No Poo or Shampoo – Avoid over washing your hair, you are stripping your hair of oils and drying out your strands. Wash your hair with conditioner or a No-Poo product like Deva Curl.
5
Trim Your Ends – Regular trims by a professional stylist, or at home, will keep your ends looking healthy and prevent further splitting of your strands.
6 7
Go Deep – Deep condition your strands once a week, when possible, or at least 2 times a month. Steam Clean – Invest in a hair steamer, your hair will thank you for it. Steamers open up your hair cuticles and allow moisture to be absorbed by your hair.
the day protect your hair from direct sunlight by wearing a hat, if you can.
9
Switch Products – A lot of woman complain that their favorite product does not work for them anymore. Manufacturers will occasionally change their recipe, a change in ingredients can affect how your hair responds to that change, so don’t be afraid to try something new.
10
Tension – Avoid styles that cause constant tension to your strands. If you enjoy pulling your hair back or up in a afro puff, try tying your hair looser. It is very important that your hair is completely dry when wearing a style that causes tension. Remember, your hair is at its weakest when it is wet. Perfect hair, does not exist, everybody has a bad hair day. Healthy hair on the other hand, is possible and that should be the ultimate goal – Good health from top to bottom!
8
Protection - If you use heat styling tools, protect your hair with a good heat protector product. At night protect your strands with a silk bonnet or silk pillowcase, to reduce hair snags and breakage. During

NATURAL SPLENDOR evolved from a tee shirt company that we were starting to offer novelty tee shirts for the natural hair community and we found ourselves discussing the products in our hair more than the slogans for the tee shirts. V g n i d d e Sh Do You Know The Difference?
22 September/October 2016
V
e g a k a e r . B S I Have Shedding, Now What?
E
ek my hair is breaking! Many naturals go through mini panic attacks because they’re seeing strands of hair at the bottom of their tub. It can be so frustrating to see, especially when you’ve been working hard to grow your hair. Before you run off to buy your new hair growth oil, make sure you’re not confusing shedding with breakage. Oftentimes, what we confuse as breakage is actually hair shedding, which is completely normal. Knowing the difference between hair shedding and breakage can make or break a healthy hair program. To avoid making unnecessary changes, read on to learn more.
What is Hair Shedding? Hair shedding happens as a result of your hair reaching the end of its growth cycle. On average, most people lose about 50-100 hair strands a day. If you’re a natural who wears a lot of protective styling, then you may see way more strands than that, once you let down your hair. You’ll know that your hair is shedding as opposed to breaking, because there will be a white bulb at the end of the hair strand. For the most part, shed hair should not cause major concern, unless it is associated with a medical issue.
What is Hair Breakage? While hair shedding is normal, breakage definitely is not. Breakage is one of the biggest indicators that your hair health is not up to par. You’ll know if your hair is breaking as opposed to shedding because when you examine the strands, you should notice the hair literally splitting into two. You will not see the white bulb at the end. When you pick up the clumps of strands, you’ll see varying lengths, because of the splitting that is happening from the breakage. Breakage can be the result of too much heat manipulation, hair rubbing against clothing, or lack of moisture.
Here are some other things to keep in mind about hair shedding. Other outside factors can affect whether or not your hair sheds at a normal rate. Any one of the things listed below could influence your hair shedding more than what you’re accustomed to:
· · · · ·
Pregnancy Birth Control Menstrual Cycle Crash Dieting Chronic disorders
While hair shedding is a natural part of the hair growth process, there are times when you definitely should be concerned. If you find that your hair is shedding at an excessive amount, please consult your physician as soon as possible. Excessive shedding could be an indication that you have a medical condition that needs immediate attention.
You Have Breakage, Now What? Almost every natural will experience some breakage at some point in their life. Our hair is extremely delicate, and goes through a lot of wear and tear. So if you see one or two broken strands, don’t panic. It’s when you’re seeing multiple broken strands that you need to start making some major changes. The best course of action is to be gentle and kind to your hair. Consider wearing your hair up, so that it doesn’t rub across fabric that could be damaging your hair. Wear protective styles. Also, make sure your moisture/protein balance is in check. Lastly, cut off the damaged ends. Holding on to split hairs will only make matters worse in the long run, causing you to lose even more hair. Naturals, education is one of the biggest tools you have to use when it comes to achieving healthy hair. We work so hard to take care of our hair, so let’s make sure we’re doing everything to support happy, healthy hair growth.

SKIN TYPES: How to care for them, show off the beauty and richness of your bronzed complexion!

skin care regimen easier. When caring for oily skin, the key is to keep your face clean and don’t allow excess oil to clog your pores. Every day you will need to cleanse your skin thoroughly both morning and evening and never go to bed with your makeup on. Use a facial cleanser that dissolves makeup while lifting surface oil then rinse with warm water. Apply
Believe it or not, if your inner skin is well hydrated, your oil glands will produce less oil and your face will be less prone to shininess. Choose a moisturizer that contains a high quality moisturizing oil like jojoba and apply a small amount to seal the surface of your clean skin afterwards.
In order to properly care for the new cells of this wonderful organ that shows off the beauty and richness of your bronzed complexion it might help to know what “type” of skin you’re working with.
Another step that will help minimize oily skin and prevent the formation of blackheads and pimples is to carefully exfoliate at least once a week. Use a product that contains jojoba wax beads. They are the ingredient used in a cream base to gently but thoroughly go over every inch of your face and throat to remove dead skin cells, then you’ll wash off the residue.
So let’s take a look at Skin Types as they apply to your beauty and how to care for them. Oily Skin Are you constantly blotting your face throughout the day to rid it of the sheen from excessive oil? Does your eye makeup cake into the creases of your eye lids? While this could happen because you’re using the wrong type of eye makeup, it can also happen because you have excessively oily skin. Do your pores tend to clog and turn into whiteheads or blackheads? Do you have acne breakouts across your forehead, around your mouth and on your nose? If you answer “yes” to these questions, you have very oily skin. This can be a problem when you are young but it does tend to lessen as you mature until one day, you hit your 60’s and suddenly you have dry skin! Let’s not wait that long, let’s work on this challenge immediately so that you can have beautiful skin forever. Oily skin is a blessing in disguise. While it drives you nuts, it is also keeping you looking youthful and actually makes your
enlarged and this is a good thing. It may seem silly to put a moisturizer on skin that is naturally too oily. Just remember, often times after you deep clean your face, it might feel tight and dry. This is the time to apply your toner and then apply a deep moisturizing product that will keep the inner layers of your skin hydrated.
Jojoba oil, despite its name, is actually a vegetable wax that soaks deeply into your skin, seals in moisture and does not leave a greasy residue. Dry Skin Like Oily skin, if you have dry skin you probably already know it. Your skin always feels tight, especially after cleansing with soap. You have a tendency to chap in cold weather too. It is unlikely that you suffer from breakouts of acne but the trade-off is that your skin will age much faster and show fine wrinkling around your eyes and mouth.

This will seal in the moisture from your shower and will prevent your skin from feeling tight. Never use a clay based masque on your dry skin but select one that tones and hydrates at the same time. Honey is a good hydrator for dry skin. Never, ever, forget to apply a night cream and pay special attention to the delicate eye area and around your lips. These areas will be the first to show fine lines as you mature. Keep them moisturized and you can take years off your appearance. Take these
suggestions into consideration when caring for dry skin and Your Black Won’t Crack. Combination Skin Combination skin is both dry and oily at the same time and this is often how oily skin ages. Over the years the oil glands on your face will begin to shut down until finally you are left with an oily T-zone, across your forehead and down the bridge of your nose. As you slowly go from oily skin to combination skin you will have to slightly modify your moisturizing process. Pay much more attention to the dry areas, using a rich, deep moisturizing product that will keep your skin looking fresh and dewy. When you exfoliate, be more gentle in the dry areas and concentrate
important role in caring for sensitive skin. on the oily ones. If you have been using a clay masque all over your face you will begin to notice that it is not working very well in the dry areas. Now is the time to start using two different masques. Keep the clay masque for your T-zone and use a hydrating masque on the dry area. It is not as difficult as it sounds and you will notice an immediate improvement in the appearance and feel of your skin. As your face becomes less oily while maturing, you will notice that your entire body is also becoming dryer. To combat this, wipe your body after you shower or bathe, with your damp cloth, to remove excess water, then apply a thin layer of jojoba oil to all of your skin. This will lock in the moisture and make your skin feel more supple all day long. In essence, you will use the tips mentioned when caring for dry and oily skin and apply them to your combination skin for best results. Normal Skin Does normal skin actually exist? Technically normal skin is neither oily nor dry. It has very few discolorations or variations in its pigment or skin tone. It’s blemish free and appears smooth and clear. Yes, there are actually some of you that have normal skin and flawless complexions. In order to keep it so, don’t follow your friends trying products that are not for your skin type. Know that all the new products and gadgets are not to be experimented with by you. In general, Your job is to keep your skin clean with a gentle cream based cleanser, a toner that contains rosewater to bring your skin’s pH level back in balance and use a light weight moisturizer twice a day.
Use a gentle exfoliator that contains jojoba wax beads every ten days. That’s it! As you mature, your regimen will possibly change. Only then will you add or remove products and ingredients to meet your needs. Skin Conditions There are two types of skin conditions that are talked about on a daily basis, yet are often perceived by many as skin types. They are acne and sensitive skin. Acne is a condition that’s often the result of too much oil in the skin and can be triggered by eating too much of the wrong foods. Fried foods and heavily concentrated/processed sugar foods top the list. Then there are hormonal changes that cause acne. Puberty and adult acne both involve hormonal changes taking place in your body. Skin care specialist such as estheticians and dermatologist can help you with this challenge. Your goal is to lessen the severity of outbreaks and the subsequent scaring that can mar your complexion long after the acne has receded into your past. Depending on the type of acne, antibiotics are often suggested as a remedy. While a dermatologist will be the one to determine whether or not you need an antibiotic, an esthetician can provide a skin care regimen to help minimize the outbreak. Sensitive skin occurs when your skin is just that sensitive. It can’t handle a lot of the ingredients and treatments that are used and oftentimes a simple change in the weather will cause sensitivity in your skin.
drying and itching, so can your laundry detergent or the synthetic fibers your clothes are made of. Psoriasis and eczema are sensitive skin conditions that are the result of inflammation in your skin. Your choice of ingredients will play an important role in caring for sensitive skin. Nutrition for Your Skin Topical products enhance and help maintain your natural beauty on the outside. However, because I believe in a holistic approach to skin care, no regimen is complete without a nutrition plan. As I shared earlier, your skin and its “type” has challenges because of some of the foods you eat? Acne/oily skin is often caused by too much fried/processed/sugary foods. Dry skin lacks internal moisture/hydration, you’re not taking in enough water. While this could be considered generalities, your food intake can be one of the main keys to beautiful black skin or the lack there of. The new buzzwords are “Clean Eating”, clean eating will aid and assist you with nourishing your skin. What you eat, feeds your internal structure … your cells, organs, muscles, blood … you get the idea. So in order to enhance the beauty of your blackness, you’ve got to take in the right foods. Once you know what your body is deficient in, you’ll know how to give it what it needs be it vitamins, herbs or minerals. Now that you know a tidbit about Skin Types, your job is to build on the information and give your skin what it needs, internally and externally.

Tea Rinses for Natural Hair I
t’s been a long work week for you. You wake up on Saturday morning, reach for the tea kettle pot and begin to boil water. As the whistling of the kettle begins to sound, you pull out a few tea bags to steep. The aroma of green tea fills the air and your senses awaken. Ahhhhhh! Oh, but this tea isn’t for drinking. It’s wash day and you’re prepping for your tea rinse.
28 September/October 2016
[Tip: Remember, rinsing with cold water will help to close the cuticle and seal in moisture in the hair.
]
What is a tea rinse, you may ask?
A
Well I’ve got the “tea”, to spill.
tea rinse is simply pouring tea over your hair, rinsing as a treatment to reduce shedding and to stimulate healthy hair growth, naturally.
Tea, black tea specifically, will reduce the shedding of your hair and will increase the quantity of hairs growing from your scalp. The caffeine in black tea blocks the hormone DHT (dihydrotestosterone) which is responsible for hair loss. Studies have shown that the caffeine within the tea penetrates the hair follicles, which can stimulate hair growth. Black tea is a great tea to use to promote healthy hair growth. Black tea is also known for darkening the hair while restoring shine and providing a healthy luster. Like black tea, green tea also helps reduce shedding and aids in stimulating hair growth. Green tea is beneficial in combatting dandruff and helps calms psoriasis. The green tea is believed to exfoliate the dry flakes that are formed on the scalp while the Vitamin E within the tea restores dry/damaged hair. Another vitamin that green contains is Vitamin C, which guards against damage from UV radiation. The process for a tea rinse is quite simple and easy. Start off by boiling several tea bags, 3-4, in a pot of water. For best results, let it steep and cool completely; the tea will become potent. For easy distribution, transfer the tea into a spray bottle. After cleansing your hair, continue to spray the tea onto your hair and your scalp until fully saturated. Cover your hair with a plastic cap for about 30 minutes, up to an hour, and then proceed to rinse thoroughly.
M
ost naturalistas will also follow up with a deep conditioner after the tea rinse to add extra moisture to the hair, as the tea rinse has drying properties, which can often make your hair feel stiff.
If you suffer from excessive hair fall, or shedding, treat your tresses to a tea rinse. You hair will strengthen and thicken with each use, and will thank you later. There are also many other teas to choose from for your rinse that has varying benefits.
Chamomile – Brightens blonde hair Rosemary and Sage – Will turn gray hairs darker Rooibos – Aids in brightening red hair Nettle and Hibiscus – Also promotes hair growth Add a tea rinse to your natural hair care regimen and steep your way into healthier hair!

Vitamins
101: Are They Worth It?
T
he health of your hair absolutely starts from the inside out. Oh no, not this again. I can already hear the moans. But no matter which way you slice it, your internal health is vital to achieving optimal hair health. The best way to get your vitamins is directly through the food you eat. But sometimes it’s not always possible to get the nutrients you need through your food. If this is the case, you may start to incorporate hair growth vitamins into your routine. If you’re just the least bit curious about the top hair growth vitamins on the market, read on.
Mielle is one of the hottest hair growth vitamins on the market because it boasts claims that it provides hair growth without the skin issues. One of the main ingredients in a lot of hair growth vitamins is biotin. Biotin has been known to cause a lot of complications for some naturals, either internally or via skin issues. That being said, Mielle DOES contain biotin, approximately 4000 mg. So this is something to keep in mind, if you are biotin sensitive. Like most other hair vitamins, Mielle also contains vitamin A, B complex, Zinc, Copper and Folic Acid. The magic of these pills probably lie with their proprietary blend, which contains MSM, Green Tea, Grapeseed Extract and Saw Palmetto. Mielle offers multiple health benefits, as a lot of these ingredients are often used to help heal PCOS sufferers. The other two hair vitamins do not offer these same ingredients in their vitamin blend.
Mielle Organics ($19) Hairfinity ($25) 30 September/October 2016
H
airfinity is pretty much an OG in the game of hair growth. It’s been around for years. Hairfinity contains nearly half the amount of biotin as Mielle Organics (approximately 2500 mg). It also has vitamin A, B, and Folic Acid, but in way less amounts. Compared to Mielle’s 30 mg for B 1, Hairfinity offers just 5 mg, which is a stark contrast. It also does not contain any Zinc. Hairfinity has a much different proprietary blend. Its blend contains MSM, Hydrolyzed Collaged and Horsetail. Hairfinity issues no allergy warnings on their label. However Mielle states that their product contains soy. So these are also things to keep in mind, when determining if these vitamins are best for you.
Manetabolism ($25)
If you are looking for a more aggressive hair growth vitamin, and are not biotin sensitive, you might want to consider Manetabolism. It has the highest amount of biotin, at 5000 mg. Manetabolism’s ingredients are the most similar to Hairfinity, including MSM and horsetail in its proprietary blend. Manetabolism also contains vitamin A, B, Zinc and Folic Acid. If you’re a fan of Zinc, Manetabolism contains the most Zinc, at 200 mg. Please be sure to research whatever hair growth vitamin you plan on using. You should also consult your physician before using any of these vitamins. If you do start to use hair growth vitamins and you notice your body reacting negatively, then stop using immediately. Having long hair is not worth jeopardizing your health. You should also support your hair growth efforts by drinking plenty of water, and eating as many natural foods as possible. If you do this, then you’ll be well on your way to shiny, soft and gorgeous hair.
