Executive Officer’s Message
EXECUTIVE OFFICER'S MESSAGE Greetings and Happy 2020! This year marks 65 years for the Central Washington Home Builders Association! I hope you feel proud to be part of an association that has stood in solidarity as the home building industry endured. Today, our industry is thriving, and our members are kicking the year off strong, and we are dedicated to serving the membership in making CWHBA the continued Association of Choice in Central Washington In celebration of an amazing 65 years, we are offering a special promotion for our current members to “Share the Vision of Membership”. This year, if you recruit five new members – either builder or associate – your 2021 dues are on us! Take this opportunity to share the value in membership and make it pay off for you – literally! We look forward to continuing the anniversary celebration with our events this coming fall. In February, our CWHBA Board of Directors and staff gathered to discuss goals and strategic directions for the year. Also, the Affordable Housing Council of Central Washington convened to determine its legislative priorities. Collectively, we took those interests to Olympia, met with legislators, and attended the BIAW Winter Board meeting. United, we are determined to continue to educate lawmakers and prevent bills from being passed that inhibit the building industry. Our message is clear: You cannot make housing affordable by making it more expensive. We have a full schedule of events planned, including our Home & Garden Show on March 13, 14, 15 at the Yakima SunDome. This CWHBA-managed event is its 33rd year and we are excited to provide another opportunity for Central Washington consumers to come with face-to-face with some of the newest trends in products and services. Thank you to Western Materials and all of our members who have made this event a continued success, year after year. Looking forward to a member-focused 2020,
Chelsea Snodgrass CWHBA Executive Officer 3

Dozer Day® teaches children about important, real-world situations by giving kids the ultimate “construction experience” by inviting them into the “driver’s seat” of real heavy construction equipment, police cars, ambulances, recycling trucks as well as other fun and informational activities. As families interact with professionals in these industries, they become aware of the incredible possibilities and industry stereotypes are redefined.

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS UPDATE My first few weeks at CWHBA have been fruitful to say the least. We’ve begun a listening effort in partnership with Membership Services to discuss pain points in city and county government, reconvened the Government Affairs and Political Action Committees to set a list of priorities and developed position statements on 17 of the most pressing issues affecting the building community, networked with elected officials at the federal, state, and local governments, all while monitoring one of the busiest short legislative sessions in recent memory. While the outcome of the current legislative session is yet to be seen, I’m encouraged by our ability as an association to respond to local issues and engage with policy makers in a thoughtful and productive way. If you feel like you’re running in to the same bureaucratic issues over and over again, please reach out and let me know, we’ll collect that information and use it as a basis to find solutions. I look forward to working with you all to expand the influence of builders in their communities and their government.
