SUPPORT CWHBA’s ADVOCACY EFFORTS CWHBA recently had the pleasure of distributing Return on Industrial Insurance (ROII) refund checks to members across our territory. Along with those checks, CWHBA encouraged a contribution JUST 10 PERCENT of the ROII refund to support CWHBA’s advocacy efforts through the Affordable Housing Council of Central Washington (AHCCW). We encourage all members to donate! One of the great benefits of membership with CWHBA is advocacy. A meaningful advocacy program requires significant resources, including staff time, volunteer time, and financial means. CWHBA wants to not only continue its effective advocacy program but strengthen it. The reality of any advocacy program is that the effort takes place in the trenches of the rulemaking battles that continue to threaten the building industry. Continued member support is necessary to make certain pro-business and pro-housing policy makers are elected to the offices that have the greatest impact. Here is some key information about the recent activities and future needs of the AHCCW: •

CWHBA’s territory covers 6 counties, 46 cities & towns, 5 State legislative districts, 3 congressional districts, as well as multiple Port Districts and PUD’s.

Local Elected officials include - 300 City/Town Council Members; 18 County Commissioners; 29 Port/PUD Commissioners; 15 State Legislators; and a multitude of other countywide offices.

This Year’s (2018) Election Cycle includes possible funding and/or endorsements for – 6 County Commission seats, 6 PUD Commission seats, 10 Legislative seats, 3 Senate seats, and a multitude of other countywide offices.

Next Year’s (2019) Election Cycle – that’s where a good portion of those 300 City/Town Council Member seats are up.

2017-2018 non-election activities include being actively engaged with Our Valley Our Future in the Wenatchee Valley, the Yakima County water issue discussions, Kittitas County Comprehensive Plan and WUI discussions, and more.

2016 election endorsements and campaign contributions included county commission candidates Mike Leita (Yakima), Paul Jewell (Kittiats), and Kyle Steinburg (Douglas). Also receiving an endorsement and donation was Kittitas PUD candidate Joe O’Leary.

If you are a part of the ROII program and received a check, we congratulate you on your commitment to safety and encourage you to consider donating Just 10 Percent to the AHCCW. Remember too, even if you are not yet part of ROII or did not receive a check this year your donation to the AHCCW is always appreciated. A commitment to advocacy pays by helping support policy makers that are pro-business and pro-housing and fighting for a business friendly regulatory and statutory environment. This year and next are important years in setting the stage for the future of our industry. Your contribution will help us continue our advocacy efforts. Learn More About the AHCCW Online at: https://cwhba.org/ahccw/

Donations can be made by sending a check, payable to AHCCW, and sent to: 3301 W Nob Hill Blvd, Yakima, WA 98902. Please contact Michael Howe, CWHBA Government Affairs Director, if you have questions.
