John M. Rudley is the 11th president of Texas Southern University. He previously served as the Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance for the University of Houston System and Vice President for Administration and Finance for the University of Houston. From June 2007 to January 2008, he served in the interim dual position of UH System chancellor and UH president. Rudley has held numerous leadership positions in higher education including Vice President for Business and Finance at the Tennessee Board of Regents, which is the sixth largest system of postsecondary education in the nation with six universities, thirteen community colleges and twenty-six vocational schools serving more than 187,000 students. He also served with distinction at the highest level of education as a senior technical advisor with the U.S. Department of Education from 1991-1992. During that time, he provided valuable assistance in responding to the requirements of the Chief Financial Office Act of 1990. He helped develop and present to then-Secretary Lamar Alexander recommendations for organizational changes regarding the consolidation of the budget formulation, budget execution, and financial management service of the department. Rudley has held administrative and finance positions in Tennessee and in Texas. He acquired his public accounting experience from Coopers & Lybrand in Los Angeles and in Seattle. He is a licensed certified accountant in Tennessee. Rudley serves the Texas Council of Presidents, the Texas Medical Center CEO Group, and is Chairman of the Board of the 100 Black Men of America, Houston Chapter. He was a founding member of the Seattle chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants and a member of the Los Angeles chapter. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Toledo and his Master of Education in Administration and Supervision and his Ed.D. in Administration from Tennessee State University. He is a member of the National Association of State College and University Business Officers. Rudley and his wife, Dr. Docia Rudley, have two children: John Michael and Jamalh.
