For over 22 years Troy B. Smith has been serving families during the most critical time of their lives, the death of a loved one. Today, he is the president and owner of Troy B. Smith Professional Services, a full-service funeral and mortuary business located at 9013 Scott St. in the Sunnyside area. A well thought-out plan went into naming his company. “A Trusted Name When Caring Counts,” is the company’s slogan, and the last four digits of the telephone number spell out T-R-O-Y.
Smith bypassed the traditional labeling of his establishment as a funeral home and branded his business as an entity that provides premium professional services which include: funeral arrangements made in homes; pre-arranged funeral plans; contemporary and traditional cremation services; domestic and foreign shipments; offering affordable cost efficient products with integrity. Smith attended T. M. Fairchild Elementary School, Crispus Attucks Middle School, Evan E. Worthing Senior High School, Prairie View A&M University and Texas Southern University. He graduated from Commonwealth College of Funeral Service, receiving his Certified Funeral Service Practitioner (CFSP) certification. Smith also serves as an ambassador for the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice. To expand his knowledge to better serve families, he applied and was accepted as a member of the British Institute of Embalmers (MBIE). Because of his compassionate, caring, thoughtful and sympathetic attitude, families are especially grateful to him for his caring nature. “It’s my ministry,” says Smith. With an uncanny ability to help people get through the death of a loved one in a caring way, Smith’s servant heart is evident.
