Salutation Polar Bears! Welcome to Officer Training Conference!!! I am excited to see every single one of your faces. Over one year ago, I was also in this exact location, attending my first ever Division 6 South event. It’s crazy to think that I now serve Division 6 South as Lieutenant Governor. I was very scared attending this event at that time, not knowing a single soul, besides talking to them over Facebook. But, I am very glad I attended. I learned new skills and new ways of think about certain topics. I also gained a better understanding of myself as a leader and pushed myself harder because of it. I found new bonds and friendships by attending this leadership conference. We are officially in the 3rd month of the 2016 - 2017 term, and this is when it is the most important to be productive and enthusiastic about Key Club. The summer has just started, but I want everyone to remember that, Key Club is not a School-year club, it is Year long. We must stay productive and keep our spirit high to ensure that our division’s strength does not hinder. Although times may get tough, and obstacles will arise and block you. Obstacles such as time management, stress, family problems, etc. You will always be able to overcome these obstacles, time and time again, because these obstacles are what makes us stronger than we were a minute ago. We will push ourselves to be stronger, and more well off than we were in the past. I have full faith and trust in every single one of you officers, members, advisors, or whoever you may be. Don’t forget that you always have support by your side, your club officers, the Divisional Leadership Team, and myself. I hope you all take full advantage of this Training Conference, and take all the information you learn today into your own hands. Do not be afraid of anyone here, we are all here to aid each other on this journey to become someone better that we thought we could be. Remember throughout this entire conference, that you have all the ability to change yourself, and it is up to you to change for better or for worse. You may take any of this information with a grain of salt or to the deepest part of your heart. But know that everyone here believes in you!!! The last thing I will say is to enjoy your day, and have fun. Make new bonds, and don’t be afraid to speak to people you never thought you would. When you are finish reading this, give yourself a pat on the back. You are here, thank you! Serving with a Roar,

Ricky Ta Division 6 South Lieutenant Governor

Aloha Polar Bears,

My name is Kevin Myron and I serve as the 2016-17 Cali-Nev-Ha District Governor. I am so thrilled to have the opportunity to learn, train and make memories alongside such a motivated group of members. My passion for this organization thrived from my very first Key Club service event. Here, I found myself a lonely freshmen amongst a seemingly group of unapproachable upperclassmen. But this was where I was wrong. Instead I was engulfed into a wave of friendliness, kindness, and inclusiveness. This experience, my first exposure to Key Club, has truly impassioned me not only to continue performing community service but also into becoming a servant-leader. Outside of Key Club, you can find me binge-watching Grey's Anatomy, American Horror Story and even Bob's Burgers. I am an avid cat person, owning one large-and-in-charge orange cat named pumpkin (he is one of my closest friends). Additionally, I never can seem to find enough time to add in my favorite hobby of sleeping. Nonetheless I promise I'm not that uncomfortable to talk to; I always look forward to interacting and making new memories so if you see me, feel free to strike up a conversation. Whether it's Key Club related, advice, or maybe even my favorite character on American Horror Story, I'm always open to talk. I encourage all of you to utilize this crucial time at OTC to build strategic action plans, SMART goals, and even brainstorm new ideas in which you can further grow the club you serve. BEE sure to give some love and appreciation to Lt. Governor Ricky and the Division 6 South Leadership Team for planning and coordinating this conference! Thank you and I am beyond excited to be here with everyone, Kevin Myron Cali-Nev-Ha District Governor

Circle K International is for college students. Its three tenants are SERVICE, LEADERSHIP, and FELLOWSHIP. Circle K provides constructive opportunities for students to become involved on their campuses and communities through service work to others in need. Circle K members have the chance to work with fellow students, children in the community, and other adults in need of special programs. Circle K inspires people to better our world. In support of this, Circle K is committed to: Collaborating with all members of the Kiwanis family to achieve our common objectives; •

Continuing student management of organization on all levels;

Developing positive role models

Enhancing inter-cultural understanding and cooperation;

Increasing our service potential;

Providing opportunities for fellowship, personal growth, and
 professional development; and

Working toward greater public recognition of the organization.

As one of the three tenets, service is the fundamental element of Circle K International. Collectively, Circle K members perform more than one million hours of service on their campuses and in their communities annually. Without service, Circle K International would be just another campus activity. Through service, college students are making the world a better place one service project at a time. Together, Circle K'ers truly make a difference in the community. “Live to serve, love to serve.”

Kiwanis is a worldwide service organization of men and women who share the challenge of community and world improvement. Since its founding in Detroit, Michigan, in 1915, Kiwanis has grown to more than 8,400 clubs in 96 nations. There are about 606,608 active members in the Kiwanis family, representing nearly every culture on every continent, all seeking to improve people’s lives. Kiwanians give their time to make their communities and world better places in which to live and work. As members of a club, they have opportunities to make business and professional contacts; learn firsthand about local, national, and international issues; improve and use leadership skills; participate in the life of their community and world; and develop life-long friendships. Kiwanis Objects: • To give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the material values of life. • To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships. • To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business and professional standards. • To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive and serviceable citizenship. • To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service and to build better communities. • To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism and goodwill.

In 2010, Kiwanis International and UNICEF joined forces to help eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) worldwide. This historic initiative, called The Eliminate Project, will protect the lives of babies and mothers all over the globe and aims to help put an end to this cruel, centuries-old disease. It will also help pave the way for the delivery of other lifesaving services, such as clean water, nutrition and other vaccines. The U.S. Fund for UNICEF is actively raising urgently needed funds for global MNT elimination program alongside our partners at Kiwanis International. In total, The Eliminate Project will raise $110 million. The Project Eliminate Will Support: • Immunization of women of reproductive age. The vaccines will be administered through three properly placed rounds of supplemental immunization activities in district where mothers and newborns have limited access to prenatal care, immunization and skilled birth attendants. • Promotion of clean delivery practices. The number of safe and healthy births will increase. • Immunization of pregnant women. The tetanus toxoid or tetanus and diphtheria vaccine will be promoted as a part of a package of interventions delivered during prenatal care visits or through outreach services. • Sustainability through education. Funds will help maintain educational initiatives such as clean birthing practices established during The Eliminate Project. • Kiwanian education and organizational enhancement. A small portion of funds raised will help educate the Kiwanis family on maternal and neonatal issues and help create Kiwanis-family service projects that support the Eliminate Project.

THE KIWANIS PEDIATRIC TRAUMA PROGRAM Preventing pediatric trauma from occurring by providing our communities with injury prevention resources

The Problem Unintentional injury remains the leading cause of death of children age 14 and under in the U.S. • Each year, 9,000 U.S. families lose a child because of a preventable injury; • Unintentional injury kills more children than all childhood diseases combined; • Children are twice as likely to survive a trauma if treated in a pediatric trauma center compared to an adult facility. Research indicates 90% of these injuries can be prevented through education, awareness and enforcement (laws and regulations). The Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Program Recognizing the serious need for education and training in the areas of pediatric trauma and injury prevention, the Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha Foundation established the Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP) in 1994. Our mission is to develop local projects which will reduce the number of children in our District who are killed or injured by trauma. The Foundation’s Partner Hospital Program connects the Kiwanis family to the issue of pediatric trauma. By utilizing the knowledge and expertise of our partner hospitals, we identify projects the Kiwanis Family can undertake to address the issue of pediatric trauma. As part of our Partner Hospital program, the Foundation annually invites our six partner hospitals to apply for a grant. These grants enable our partner hospitals to reach out to their communities with educational materials, safety equipment, and information on childhood trauma prevention; to offer advanced pediatric training for doctors, nurses and first responders; and to purchase specialized pediatric medical equipment. The Costs The Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha Foundation invests more than $200,000 annually to reduce the number of children killed or injured by unintentional injuries in our District. The Outcome • Kiwanis clubs annually distribute more than 1,500 helmets to children in need • Through our Partner Hospital Program, more than 16,700 children received injury prevention and education materials • With a Foundation grant, Hawaii’s first comprehensive pediatric burn program was launched in 2012
