REGION 16 COLORSPLASH REGION 16 COLORSPLASH

region 16 throws colored chalk at holi inspired event

On August 4th region 16 hosted their annual colorsplash.Thiseventhasbeenhostedannuallybythe region's ltgs since 2019. Colorsplash is an event that is inspired by the spring cultural festival celebrated by countries in South Asia called Holi. Holi celebrates new beginnings and celebrations of many Hindu, Sikh, and other cultures across South Asia. Our first icebreaker wasbingo, wememberswouldcompletethetasklisted on the bingosheettowinaprize. Bingo pushed people to meet new people from different divisions in region sixteen. Then after we played a game where the detective has to find the alpha. Everyone is in a huge circledoingthesame dancemovethatthealphapicks and can switch the dance move at any time and everyonehasto copythem. The detectivedoesn’tknow who the alpha is and walks around the circle guessing whothealphais.Afterthatgamepeopleweresplitinto ten groups and played Poncho. This was a fun team building exercise to brainstorm different dance moves and to watch other groups perform their own dance moves. To cool down we played water games. First water game was a water balloon relay. Each group was put into a line with each person an arms distance away, the first person in line would grab a water balloon and toss it to the person next to them until it reachedtheendoftheline.Iftheballoonwasdropped the person who fumbled would have to run to the front of the line to grabanotherballoon and go back to the spot in line. This would go until the timer ends. The second water game was a sponge relay where everyone would line up again and the first person in line would soak a sponge in water and pass it to the person behind them either over their head or under their legs. Once the last person in line gets the sponge they would run to the front and repeat until the person who was in the front at the beginning is at the front again. Finally at the end of the event was the colorsplash! People lined up to get their packets of colored chalk and gathered to throw it into the air. Watching the colorful chalk was a super pretty sight. This year’s colorsplash was fantastic this year and I am thrilledfornextyear.

ANNUAL BANANA FESTIVAL ANNUAL BANANA FESTIVAL

helping vendors, tying posters, and being in a parade

On Saturday, August 17th, Key-Clubbers from throughout the division came together to volunteer at the 13th Annual Banana Festival. To start out, we helped at the entrance by putting together lanyards for vendors. Afterwards, we were taken to the kids area where most ofussigneduptovolunteerat. There,we were given directions to hang up festival posters along the fence close by that we hadtosecurelytieon.Aftertheywereall put up, a couple people, including me, noticedthatsomeofthe tieswerefalling off because of the wind and opted to help tieitbackup moretightly.Afterthis, we set up an art station by hanging up art and taping drawings on tables for display. Then, before the event officially started we went to our post at the kid’s area and, since we were not needed anywhere at that moment, we played some of the games such as Jenga with the whole Key Club volunteer group. Once the event started, we assisted with things such as passing lanyards out to vendors, carrying water out to different places, and even participating in the parade through the banana festival parade with banana props and costumes! After this, we were offered a hotdog and water for our service which was super kind. Finally, other volunteers andIwentbacktothekidsareauntilthe end of the event. Altogether, this was an extra engaging event that I was glad to beabletoplayapartin.
