|02| LTG's Note
LTG's Note Aloha, all you hot Red Devils! Can you believe we've already completed the first quarter of the term? Right now, we're at an exciting point in time where we can reflect on past happenings like International Convention and Region 9 Olympics while also looking forward to things like club rush season and Fall Rally North. I'm so proud of you all for making this quarter a remarkable one; we've had all home clubs present at a DCM for the first time! Now, I'm counting on YOU to keep up that hard work through the rest of the term. I know we can smash those goals together!
Here to HEAR You Out, Stephanie Dumalig

|03| Editor's note
Editor's Note What's Hot, Red Devils? We are nearing the end of our Summer break and the next school is quickly approaching us! I know many of us are sad that our break is fleeting. However, this is just the beginning to a term unlike any other. Many of our schools have been hit hard due to uncertain times. Member recruitment and retention has been difficult as well as outreach for service events. However, as we ease into the start of the school year, we are all prepared to take on the rest of this term. As we look forward to what the future could offer to us, let us also take this time to give back to our communities, continue to stay active throughout the Summer, and enjoy this month's edition of THE INFERNO!

Officer OPINIONS What brought you to Key Club and what made you stay?
I was brought into Key Club by the president who preceded me and revamped the club at liberty after it had been lost. I wanted to stay because I fell in love with volunteer work and the tight-knit Key Club community. I truly feel at home in Key Club and I’m glad that I get to be the president of Liberty Key Club even if it’s only for one year! I also believed that being a member of Key Club would allow me to learn much needed skills in the future, such as teamwork and networking. So I stayed to help, learn, and connect.
Alexandria Masinde
Liberty Key Club President '22-23
Key club is like a home to me, and a family, filled with joy and laughter. I was first introduced to key club freshman year by a senior peer, but chose not to join it because I didn’t think it would be “my kinda thing”, but I have regretted passing up the opportunity up to this day. It was only until my junior year that I decided to try it out; In all honesty, what really pushed me to join key club was when I found out that it looked good in college apps, and eventually ended up persuading my friends into getting dragged into this journey. Now that I’ve been a part of this club, I realize that it’s just more than that. I've met a bunch of new friends around the bay and even outside of California! Key club has made so many memories for me this past year and I’m so glad and proud to be a fiery red devil!

I joined key club at first because my brother was in this club and he wanted me to earn my community service hours! As I started to take part in all the events and gatherings, I found that key club was a lot more fun than I had expected because of all the connections and people that I met in all of the events. The time I spent in this club led me to numerous learning opportunities and the experience I had from the gateways key club opened to me led me to continue my journey with the club.
Vivian Nguyen
Freedom Key Club President '22-23
I joined key club in early 2021 to make new friends. I wasn’t around too much in the beginning. But with the new election i stayed because of the culture that these new officers introduced me to. this culture is almost family like. Besides being all goofy these guys also make everybody feel right at home. Which for me makes this more than just another club that looks good for college.
Jayden Lawrence
Antioch Key Club Treasurer '22-23
Hello and greetings! I’m Morelia Gil and I joined Key Club through a friend, now president of Antioch Key Club. she joined and I tagged along for the ride. Let me tell you, Key Club is a whole roller coaster and in a good way. I stayed for the people I graciously met and got acquainted with. All the events are incredibly unforgettable and perfect opportunities to network.

What we've been up to... pancake Breakfast Article by Brenda Morales On the morning of Monday, July 4th, Antioch Key Club’s new officers went out and helped pass out pancakes and other breakfast foods to the community! Our duties throughout the day were to help set up and get everything ready, clean tables as people came and went, and pass out the breakfast. When the day was finished we helped clean up and pack up everything. It was a really fun day and we got to meet with other Key Club members and officers from neighboring schools, such as Liberty High School and Freedom High School. Overall it was fun and a great volunteering event! ur club president, Aeowynne Magtoto, said “It felt good O helping our community and making others smile with just a helping hand”, when she was talking about the event. She also commented on how everyone from the different Key Clubs were extremely nice and she loved meeting them. And I have to agree with her, everyone at the event was so nice, the Key Clubbers, the directors of the event, and the community who came out. It was a heart-warming event and I hope to have more volunteer events like this one in the future! Another officer, Jayden Lawerence, observed how many Key Club members were present at the event and told me, “These volunteers didn’t have to be at this event, 7:30 in the morning, but came here out of the goodness of their hearts”, which was true and shows the true colors of the Key Clubbers. Jayden also said that this event was a great way to get the community involved and he liked meeting everyone and talking to them. Another thing he mentioned was that he liked seeing everyone at the event having a great time and interacting with one another. Overall, it was a wonderful event and it was very lively. I hope the future events are just as excellent as this one!
Keep reading to see what other clubs have been up to!

TOTE BAGS & BRACELETS Article by Joanna Phung
On Monday, June 13th, Clayton Valley Charter High School Key Club hosted its first summer event of the 22-23’ term. This event was held within Clayton Community Park with around 20 members attending. This event consisted of decorating tote bags and making bracelets for a generous donation of $12. All the money raised from this event was raised for charity. This event allowed dues-paid members to come and any people willing to pay to become a member of our Key Club. Our LTG, Stephanie Dumalig also came as well as a member of the Deer Valley Key Club. This event started around 2:00 pm with members slowly showing up. 20 minutes before the event began, the officer board from the club came to arrange the items for everyone. 3-4 tote bags were placed on each picnic desk with markers, paint, and colored pencils. After everyone arrived, our president, Meredith Edmonston gave everyone a warm welcome. The event started with some icebreaker activities to break the silence. After this, everyone got to make their tote bags. Most members made one side dedicated to Key Club and the other dedicated to a hobby or interest. During the event's second half, Meredith held some more icebreaker activities to get people out of their shells. Members became acquainted with fellow members as the icebreakers went on. After this, the bracelet decorating started. Each member was given some red string and got to select from an assortment of beads. Members added beads dedicated to Key Club and/or a favorite person/interest. One of our new members, Kristin Francisco said, “The tote bags & bracelets event was my first Key Club event with Clayton Valley, and I can easily say that it was a wonderful way to prepare for a fun year of service. Drawing the design for my tote bag and stringing a bracelet was the perfect event given the warm weather!”. The officer board and I look forward to more events like this!
Thank you to all of the clubs that submitted articles and visuals for the month!

JULY RECOGNITION MEMBER OF THE MONTH
OFFICER OF THE MONTH
CLUB OF THE MONTH
GRACE FUNG ANTIOCH
BENEDICT TEODORO PITTSBURG
CLAYTON VALLEY CHARTER HIGH SCHOOL
Grace Fung is one of our only members that kept in touch. She is always asking for updates and tries to get the fill in!
Ben has helped so much during the month of June. He planned out the water balloon social and service week mostly by himself, and bought materials for the said events. Even though the consumables we needed were expensive, he was able to buy everything with money from his own wallet. I'm impressed with how organized he is while balancing the tasks of being Spirit Coordinator!
Clayton Valley is deserving of the club of the month award because we’ve gone the extra mile in helping our community. Not only did we help with the local Fourth of July Parade but also had volunteers set up, pick up trash/help booths during, and clean up a large BBQ cookoff event. Though only five volunteers helped, over the span of two days, the total hours served that weekend amounts to 36 hours...
FACULTY ADVISOR OF THE MONTH
SCOTT SNYDER | DEER VALLEY
He’s doing his best to help our club out by prioritizing his role as Deer Valley Key Club's advisor.
KIWANIS ADVISOR OF THE MONTH
DENIS J. SMITH | COLLEGE PARK
Words cannot express how glad we are to have Denis J. Smith as our Kiwanis Advisor. He is still recovering from his recent surgery but he really has put himself out there as far as communicating to our club and assisting our club. He proposed a cleanup event a while back and about a week or two later, he had planned in detailed the event and sent a friendly email about recruiting some of our club member for the event. This just shows how determined and dedicated Mr. Smith really is. He gets an idea, and makes it happen. It's been awesome getting to know Mr. Smith at the start of the term...
