a letter from your

Lieutenant Governor Hello My Fiery Red Devils! Thank you for reading the latest edition of our monthly newsletter, The Inferno! The middle of the summer is upon us, and hopefully you have been having the time of your life away from school and with those you love. Personally, it has been an incredible time seeing all of your lovely faces in-person. Our annual Region 9 Olympics has just passed! It was so very exciting since it was our first inperson DCM and region event. You all have been the most SPICY, FIERY Red Devils! Believe me when I say that all your hard work does not go unnoticed! Now that school is (sadly) approaching, it is time to start thinking about recruiting members at your school! As a matter of fact, we will be holding a picnic during sunset where we will be making posters to prepare for your school’s club rush. I will see you all there!

Continue being active and try something new! Step out of your comfort zone! Let’s ignite that D26N Red Devil spirit! I will see you all soon!

Region 9 Olympics and our July DCM were super fun and it was nice to meet some of you in person! This month I have been working on communicating with secretaries about MRF'S. I have also been helping prepare for our Sunset Social and I hope to see you all there!

This July has been a really busy month for me, I've been working on summer homework for classes, going to work, and preparing the Milk Tea Fundraiser!! CHS: Pumpkin Patch Plating Event During June, we had a fun pumpkin patch planting event for the city of Walnut Creek. There were only six spots for service members available and we were able to fill all six spots!

July 2021 | Issue No.

CHS: Pumpkin Patch Planting Event Cont. It was our first in person event and it went well! It was nice to work together as a group and feel a sense of normalcy once more. Not only did we plant pumpkins but we dug spots for them and brought over materials from across the park where needed.

Overall, it was an amazing first in-person event! Everyone who came were able to get to know each other and connect. All the member who came out enjoyed it. As a club it was exciting to do more of what we miss.

MOUNT: CARD FOR ADVISORS EVENT A report by Nicole Omori On a warm and summery Wednesday afternoon, Clayton Valley, Mount (Mt.) Diablo, and Concord Key Clubs met for a joint service event at Todos Santos Plaza. The Cards for Advisors event held June 30 was our club’s first in-person event of the term, and although participation from our school was limited to only several of our officers, we were still able to mingle with the attendees from the other schools. Everyone had arrived at the arranged meeting spot at around 3:00 PM, and despite multiple material mishaps, each club was able to make at least one poster during our time in the plaza. Concord Key Club and ourselves created cards with kind messages for our Kiwanis advisor, Rocci, and Mt. Diablo Key Club made posters for their advisor, Marie. Both of our advisors had been recently hospitalized, so our clubs coming together to show our gratitude and to give our best wishes to them was very gratifying.

As Connor Emery, our secretary, detailed, “it was great to participate in an interclub experience, and even better so because we were all contributing for our advisors.”

MOUNT: CARD FOR ADVISORS EVENT CONT. A report by Nicole Omori The time seemed to fly by as we worked on our posters. The tranquil environment of the park on a Wednesday afternoon made for a comfortable work setting as we created our cards and mingled with one another. The sudden strong winds, however, did cause some posters to be swept off tables, making us rush to grab them. Since we sat at a set of tables covered by the shade of several evergreens, every strong wind sent a sprinkle of tree needles our way. Adapting as we created our cards, we swept away the tree needles and held down our posters with the heavy objects we had: a bottle of orange juice provided by Mount Diablo’s president and a large box of markers that we were actively picking colors from to make our posters stand out. Our president, Meredith Edmonston, described her experience at the service event. “It was refreshing to meet up in person,” she said. “I enjoyed meeting members from other clubs and seeing their creativity shine through the posters they made. All in all, it was a fun event and a great first service project for the year!” At around 5:00 PM, all of the clubs proudly showcased their creations as we took a group photo in front of the plaza’s stage. All of the Clayton Valley attendees thoroughly enjoyed this joint service event, and we continue to hope for both Rocci and Marie’s quick recovery.

Growing Your Spirituality- 3

Pittsburg: Pride Poster Making Event Written by Justin Cecilio During Pride Month, in June, it is important, and always will be important, to show not only your pride, but the allyship towards members of the LGBTQIA+ community. In courtesy of Pride Month, Pittsburg Key Club hosted not one, but two community service events for Pride. One being a virtual ‘Pride Poster Making’ service event (held on Wednesday June 16), as well as an in-person service event where participants held up the well-made, beautiful posters at Pittsburg High School the following week (held on Wednesday June 23).

"Overall, the event was fun, nostalgic because we have not been to school in person in a while, and helped grow a closer connection between everyone who attended."

Overall, June was a well spent month as Pittsburg Key Club was able to accumulate people and members to partake in service events for Pride Month. From the visuals shown, Key Clubbers were seen to be happy and having a great time showing their pride and/or allyship. If an opportunity like this comes up once more, I would jump straight to it, and I hope more willing participants do the same as well.
