LTG’s Opening

Hello!

Summer is slowly approaching its end and school is coming up. With being busy with summer homework, sports, extracurricular activities, and eventually school - Service never stops! I hope that y'all have been serving and giving back to the community that has done so much for you. Remember, a member in good standing is a member that has served AT LEAST 50 hours! But that shouldn't be too hard, right? I want to remind everyone that each school has a goal to reach, which can be found near the end of this newsletter. The year is moving by very quickly and that means the deadlines to these goals will be here before you know it. It is really important to be constant with service, fundraising, and luring in new members! I believe in every single one of you to help yourself and your club accomplish YOUR goal! Here are some important dates that I would love to personally remind and inform you about: Regional Training Conference (RTC) will be held on September 27th-28th at Camp Jones Gulch. The price will be around $60, but with this early information, this allows you to fundraise early! This event is our first region event of the year! It will be a joint RTC with Region 17. This is an overnight event where we will be staying in cabins with tons of new people, provided meals, a campfire, creating skits, a movie night, learn new things and SO much more! I cannot even explain how amazing this experience was for me last year and I cannot wait for all of you to experience it yourselves! RTC can be YOUR Key Club moment. Second, Fall Rally North! FRN is on Saturday, October 18th at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo from 9:30am - 10pm. It costs $32 for pre-paid tickets, $36 at the door, and $5 for those who have season passes. Last year, We were able to win the spirit stick! This year, we're going for a repeat! Fall Rally North is a district event of where we celebrate our accomplishments of fundraising for PTP, the Pediatric Trauma Program, and to show our Key Club Spirit! During this event, we have spirit battles, Lt.G Auctions, and of course, riding rides! I encourage everyone to go because it's a fun event where you get to meet tons of new people and show your sizzling Red Devil spirit! Don't drop that Devil Pride! Just to keep it short, enjoy the rest of your summer but always remember - SERVICE and FUNDRAISE! If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please feel free to contact me through email, phone, text, Facebook, etc. With Burning Love, Jennifer Lam

Club Updates

Antioch Recently, Antioch was awarded club of the month! Very big, considering the size of the club and it's thanks to the fundraising events held from the previous month. Antioch high members have had vacations going on. Many have been busy, but for the upcoming month, more volunteering will be projected. Community produce programs need our help. As well as the regional park: Contra Loma Fundraisers such as selling goods for the school registration will soon be outlined. - Francisco Loya, President

College Park Recently, College Park has participated in a couple of events including our end-ofthe-year picnic and a couple Fourth of July service projects. For the end-of-the-year picnic, organized by past co-presidents David Park and Monica Willemsz, the members played games and had a great time. At the Fourth of July events, the members were in charge of handling booths, either for games or for the bouncehouses, for the children to play in. The officers are planning on ways to fundraise as well as have a successful recruitment of future members in the beginning of the school year. - Matthew Kaneda, Vice President

Concord Although summer started off slow, July is packed full of events for our Key Clubbers! From the food bank to the crisis center to Relay for Life and the senior center, we are making the most out of every day (especially the mornings!) and every service opportunity that comes our way. - Vanessa Martinez, President

Club Updates

Pittsburg

This past month has been packed for majority of our members. A few of them, including our Treasurer Jenny Pham, participated in Global Glimpse. This was a program where they set foot on Nicaragua and help the local communities out there, teaching English to children, bonding with the culture, and meeting people from different parts of the country that have decided to choose volunteer work as part of their summer goals. Meanwhile, Pittsburg Key Club participated in our city’s annual Relay for Life, held at the City Hall. - Roy Golingan, President

Northgate Our Key Club has been dormant for past few weeks. It seems like no one is actively participating any of those events, DCMs, or volunteering events. However, our club is running by our awesome officers and some of our most actively working members. We are currently planning our new fundraiser event over the web. Our president left for her break, so our VP is in charge of our club. Also, I am leaving this country this month permanently - so we need a faithful, committing member to take over my job and be a new secretary. Starting on July, 2014, Audrey Vergara, our treasurer, will temporarily be taking care of responsibilities of secretary until we vote for our new secretary. - Louis Koo, Secretary

Mount Diablo We have remained active with small volunteer events like tutoring at the Concord Library, and we have been keeping in touch with members through our Facebook page or text notifications. I have been looking into getting a Key Club table and other ways of promotion for our school walk through that'll be coming up next month, along with other events for the school year. Currently, one of our officers is out of state so we plan to have a board meeting when he returns. From there, we will continue to organize and plan for this upcoming school year. - Lesliejane Pada, President

Antioch Football Camp Francisco Loya | President | Antioch Key Club

This week, a couple Antioch Key Clubbers, which includes the president and two members got to see what Antioch’s football team will be like this year by volunteering at Antioch’s football camp for three days. Various tasks our members did, included filming from above, cleaning, and recording plays. The coaches thanked us for our time and effort. It was a small but meaningful gesture to give the coaches and players a helping hand.

July 4th Festival Vivian Chong| President | College Park Key Club

The July 4th festival was a sweltering but character-building event in which Key Clubbers who volunteered stood in the sun and ran booths for children to come and play either games or jump in bounce-houses. Although it was uncomfortable, it was incredibly rapturous to put a smile on the children’s faces and to know we have helped out the parents too by distracting the children for a number of hours. It was awesome seeing the parents feign their excitement for their child who won a small piece of candy or a little trinket from the games, and overall it was a very mood-uplifting event.

Concord Library Tutoring Lesliejane Pada| President | Mount Diablo Key Club

For this month, Mount Diablo Key Club members have been showing up on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Concord Library to help tutor kids. Tutoring is open to those of all ages, but we have primarily been working with younger kids in elementary school. We help tutor them in any subject they ask, most of which is math and English, and we help tutor them in groups of kids or individuals if they request. Key Clubbers have been putting their leadership and communication skills to work through this tutoring, and it’s been a fun and interesting experience. We are also happy to play games and do crafts with the kids and other tutors during breaks and when homework is finished!

Pittsburg Relay for Life Roy Golingan| President | Pittsburg Key Club

This month, Pittsburg Key Club participated in the annual Pittsburg Relay for Life at the city hall. Although the event was much smaller than the previous years, every effort of service was still very appreciated by everyone. We were assigned several jobs, some were working the Kid’s Booth for facepainting, the others were decorating Luminaria bags to light up at the night, and others were assigned to help with the BBQ for the participants. Throughout the whole 24-hour event, some of our members were walking around the track to support the fight against cancer, and at the same time, motivating others to keep on walking in support of their friends and family that have been affected by this tragic disease. Overall, it was another successful event for the members to experience and for the American Cancer Society to fundraise for cancer research.

How was ICON to you?

ICON was definitely a memorable experience. As well as getting to choose our international board and amendments, listening to sessions and guest speakers, and going to great workshops, we also got to interact and meet other key clubbers from all over the nation. Although my withdrawals are too strong right now, it was such an amazing experience! - Shaina Flores, Deer Valley

PROJECT: ELIMINATE

ATTENTION DIVISION 26 NORTH!!! This is our FINAL YEAR in saving generations of babies within the countries shaded in brown on the world map below. At ICON, this was the most highlighted subject, since we are going for one more push, one more term of raising money for MNT vaccinations across the world, to finally ELIMINATE this disease. We ask you to visit The Eliminate Project website, and look through the Service and Fundraising section of the website so that you and your club will come together and focus your fundraising efforts for the cause. There’s a plethora of fun activities to do and there’s no time to lose! So keep the summer of service strong, and make sure that your club will be part of this worldwide force.

Hello Red Devils!

I hope you all are having a wonderful summer of service, don’t forget that we have division goals to accomplish, and it’s gonna be best to do them early. So let’s make this summer as busy as the school year. We got one more month until most of us are back to school. Keep yourself focused and mentally prepared for what's about to come this Fall for our division, it will be the best one yet! Reminders to the Club Editors and officers submitting Articles or Visuals. I have sent an email regarding the formatting of each of the files. Please follow them to allow me to organize and correctly submit each one of them without any hassle. So far the documentations and labels are great, but there is still a lot of room for improvement. If you need help with anything at all, send me an email on my DNE Gmail account found on the Contact Us page of this newsletter. Thank you all and have golden days of summer! Ignited with service, Roy Golingan

Looking at these numbers, you may think they’re impossible to reach! But they’re not :) Every year, Division 26 North has grown in its quantity, quality, and achievements. This is our year! The Division Leadership Team and I have created these goals for each club because we know that and every single one of y’all can achieve this goal. This year, our theme is CELEBRATE! We can celebrate Family by growing our ohana in membership, Leadership by reaching our PTP and Eliminate goals to prevent injuries and MNT across the world, and Service by achieving our hours by helping our homes, schools, and communities. It’s GO HARD OR GO HOME! <3 OFFICIAL DIVISION 26 NORTH NEWSLETTER | JUNE 2014
