On December 27, we had a great volunteering opportunity at the Antioch Convalescent Hospital. Teamed up with a few of Northgate and Mount Diablo's key clubbers, we sang Christmas carols to the senior citizens who reside at the hospital. It was bittersweet to see the seniors smile. We handed out gifts and cards made specifically for them. All in all, it was great to give happiness to some who do not receive much. -Ryan Shu, Concord

On January 9th, Concord Key Club volunteered at a crab feed in Walnut Creek. This crab feed was fundraising for their local senior center. Our job was to serve the guests salad, bread, pasta, and LOTS of crab! After our hard work, event staff were gracious enough to let all the volunteers eat the leftovers --which was very delicious! -Melissa Javier, Concord

The annual Walnut Creek half marathon began in Civic Park at around 7:00am. Participants as young as eight and as old as seventy five, ran 13 miles around the city, bumping into hydration stations at each mile marker. At each of those mile markers, there was a booth with water, gatorade and oranges in which different high schools were in charge of. Fortunately, we were able to participate at mile number five and got to hand out drinks and snacks for the runners, as well as encourage them to finish the race. Despite the freezing weather and waking up super early, we all had a blast and wouldn’t hesitate to volunteer next year. “...Volunteers had to set up tables and fill up cups with gatorade or water to give to runners when they passed by. I had a lot of fun because we were helping people and for my school, a good cause.” -Angela Platon, 11th grade - Eilona Aguilar, Mt. Diablo
