Making Cards for the Elderly Even the slightest appreciation means and does a lot to a person. On April 30, the newly elected board decided to host the first service event of the current term by creating cards that would then be donated towards the local nursing home. In this event, we were able to converse, bond, and listen to music as we do what we do best, serve our community. Pittsburg Key Club undoubtedly wants to show thanks and love for the elderly of Pittsburg, and creating cute, warming, and caring cards is the least we could do to show our appreciation. With the one hour given, from 5-6 pm, we could get a good amount of cards finished, and if that hour was not enough, members and officers can continue to work on them afterwards.

Personally, I had the ability to sit down and relax as I drew and wrote on cute cards I created while I talked with the rest of the participants. I highly enjoyed the event because it was not only fun, but genuinely chill. Given the fact that we just sit, listen to music, talk, and bond, I couldn’t ask for a better way to show my appreciation towards the nursing home, other than the fact I wish we could rather host an in-person event instead. Nonetheless, with the ongoing virus, the event took place through zoom where members and officers created their cards right at home. With easy accessibility to supply themselves for the event at home, card making was nice and simple. Events like this shows how much effort is continuously put in to make sure Key Club serves our community in any way we can. In accordance with Yen Phan, the current Vice President of Admin, “I really enjoyed the card making event because of the fact that we were given the opportunity to bond and create cards for the elderly of our community here in Pittsburg. My favorite part of the event was discussing our days and life experiences, as well as making funny jokes with one another! I can’t wait for my cards to be delivered to the local nursing home and I am definitely looking forward to the upcoming service events, especially the cleanup!” From beginning to end, the event was a calming and fun way to bond with fellow officers and members! Within the first few minutes, we waited for incoming members to show up, and later on had a check in. At that moment, we spoke to one another about our days and lives and later began to work on our cards for the local nursing home. Throughout the event, we had the chance to get to know each other a bit more and

11 have fun! Just right after an hour of nice card making, we wanted to take a group photo together for this month’s newsletter and article, showing off our cards. With the ongoing drop off dates we have taken place, the cards will be sent out to the local elderly home as soon as possible.

Overall, the event was fun and a success because we had a good time and created a good amount of cards to donate. Although, the event lacked the amount of participants, thus meaning there could have been a larger amount of cards used to donate. We, as the elected board, are hoping for more members to participate in the next event because they are really fun! Immensely excited for the upcoming event Key Club has taken place to serve our community.

Homecoming Parade

Visuals & Visuals Articles & Articles

What has Freedom Key Club been up to this month? On Friday May 7th, our club was invited to the Homecoming Parade planned by Freedom High School which was at 7:30 am to 9:00 am. The members met up in front of the MPR and walked the parade with Freedom cheerleading/dance, clubs, and sport teams. The Homecoming Parade gave us a chance to get in touch with our school environment again after the long wait because of the pandemic. We experienced what it was like to give our service towards the school and helping the staff out by participating in the school event.

Deanne, the President of the 2021-2022 Board of Freedom Key Club states “The event was very fun especially with this being one of the first in-person events we had as a club since the start of the Pandemic. We previously were invited to last year's Homecoming Parade, so it wasn’t anything new. It was nice to see everyone again too. It was a bit early, but I didn’t mind as much. Overall, I found the event fun and entertaining.”

Our Editor of the 2021-2022 term, Chloe Jarbadan, mentions how the parade was very nostalgic due to the rally being the last one for the seniors of Class of 2021. She states “The parade felt so nice to participate in because we got to see our club’s seniors altogether and enjoy their last year like they should be.” Thank you to Freedom High School for inviting our club to a very enjoyable event!

Ms. Edwards Card Making Event

Visuals & Visuals Articles & Articles

First Meeting of the Term: We had our first club meeting on Friday, April 30th. Alex kicked off the meeting with board introductions, went over our events for May, and then we did senior speeches. It was attended by all of our officers, some members, some seniors, and Ms. Edwards. It was great to see everyone, old and new, for the new term. Ms. Edwards made a really kind farewell speech and talked about the impact Key Club has made on her life. The seniors shared their Key Club moments and things they’ve learned from Key Club. It was sad to give final goodbyes but we’re all happy to see everyone going on to bigger things. Ms. Edwards Card Making Event: On Sunday, May 2nd, we had our card-making event for our faculty advisor, Mrs. Edwards. Mrs. Edwards is leaving and we thought it might be nice to do something for her. We made farewell cards and letters to say our final goodbyes. Club Introductions: On April 18th, we posted our introductions for the new officer board! We shared an interesting fact about ourselves and a few words of introduction.
