Wencie Hoang x College Park Lieutenant Governor

Hello sizzling Red Devils! My name is Wencie Hoang, and I am BEE-yond ecstatic to serve YOU as your Lieutenant Governor for the 2016-2017 term! A little bit about me is that I love to sing, dance, travel, bake macarons, and film for my Youtube channel. At school, I serve as an oďŹƒcer in Hiking Club and ASB Leadership.

I hope that this year, that I will improve upon remembering names, because I want to not only work with you as an oďŹƒcer, but also as a friend. Although there will be speed bumps along the road, and that I can't promise you that I will be the perfect Lieutenant Governor, I DO want you to know that I will give you my 110% to ensure that every Devil experiences the magic of Key Club. As Miss Universe 2015 said when asked how she sees the title she possesses, I see this as a tremendous honor and responsibility. Instead of setting expectations this year, I want to encourage you to set goals. I have many goals for this year, but it would be impossible without YOU! Although I may be a disaster and super busy most of the time, do not ever hesitate to ask me any questions you may have. I love questions!

Musically, Wencie Hoang

A year in rewind...

Antioch High School Key Club has wrapped up this 2015-2016 school year with our hard working members and officers going from hitting the ground running to beautiful strides as we passed the finish line to our school year. This past May, our Club has participated in Antioch High School's VAPA (Visual And Performing Arts) event at which we sold food, leis, and key chains (part of of funds went to the Eliminate Project), supported the families of graduating seniors by selling leis, participated in the relay for life event at Pleasant Hill Middle School, participated in the DCM at Pleasant Hill Middle School at which we brought cupcakes as a contribution to the desserts, and the Memorial Day event at which we did Set-Up for Face Painting, Arts & Crafts, Directed Parking, gave Wristbands, and Cleaned Up. In total we participated in four events at this busy ending of the school year, pushing with enthusiasm in each event. -By Jonathan Williams, Antioch High School Editor

CNH | KEY CLUB Charity Lacrosse Game On May 27, 2016, Key clubbers from Clayton Valley Charter High School volunteered at the Charity Lacrosse Game for Clayton Valley. The event helped spread awareness of teen suicide and also helped raise money for teen suicide prevention. Key clubbers raised $850 at the Charity Lacrosse Game. Members gathered donations for teen suicide prevention and sold chipotle. Club members watched JV and Varsity Lacrosse team play for teen suicide prevention. The charity event went well without any pressure on the volunteers. There were a lot of people who were at the event and said that they wanted to join key club after seeing the club members’ work. Brianna Tancioco, Vice President recalled the even being, “fun experience and this event, for me, signifies what Key Club is about. I met someone named Markus who also volunteered to help out with this event. We hug out throughout the game and got to know each other while collecting donations for the teen suicide organization”. This was a cool experience for key clubbers because they got to show their school spirit while helping out for a unique cause. Clayton Valley Key Clubbers are looking forward for next year’s event. College Park Key Club May was a vey busy and successful month for the College Park. Not only did we had eight service projects, we also hosted a successful DCM. We volunteered at the Walnut Creek Clean Up, Taiwanese Cultural Festival, College Park Movie Night, Filipino Festival, Relay for Life, Food bank, Pop’s Picnic, and Kid’s Fest. We also fundraised over $100 for charity in the month of May. Amy Nguyen, Vice President

Summer is here but service never ends! In June, we are booked with service projects such as the Pleasant Hill Instructional garden and the food bank.

College Park Key Club This May, the annual Relay for Life in Pleasant Hill was held, and many clubs joined together for the DCM and the event itself. At this service event, we raise money for Relay for Life by selling ribbon leis, food, and drinks. Many volunteers showed up to spend some time putting together the beautiful leis. All their hard work paid off, and we managed to raise a significant amount to donate to the American Cancer Society. One of our members says that the best part about Relay for Life is making new friends from different schools, and getting together to raise money for a great cause. — Brian Choe, Editor

Volunteering to Volunteer On the first Saturday of June, there was a The American Cancer Society Relay for Life at Deer Valley high school. This event was a relay raising funds for Cancer council. Members from many other Key Clubs, including Northgate Key Club, came to help make difference in the cancer society. When we arrived at the school to help, we could easily tell that our fellow Key Club from Deer Valley high school worked hard on this project. During the event, cupcakes, lollipops, and ribbon leis were sold. The ribbon leis were handmade by the members. People who were not selling made ribbon leis or taught other members how to make them. This was a fun teach and learn experiment. Members were a little awkward with each other. However, as they started teaching one another, they became closer and closer. Even though this was an overnight event, none of our Key Clubbers were whining about how tired they were. Instead, they were as energetic as usual, enjoying their moment. This Relay for Life was a great success. We helped the society earn funds but at the same, time we made an unforgettable memory with new friends. -Nicole Parks, Northgate Editor

AQUARIUS (JANUARY 20 - FEBRUARY 18) Outer space begins at 100 kilometers (62miles) above sea level but you seem to be at least a dozen kilometers closer. Not only to outer space, but to each planet in our Solar System, closer to the Moon and the Sun. Don’t waste time on negative thoughts or people who drain the life out of you. Instead, enjoy time spent in nature, go for a walk and meet someone new. Who knows what kind of surprises wait for you along the way if you only move? Planets in Gemini, especially Mercury, will lift your spirits up as days go by, and you will feel much lighter than you did in the previous weeks. Don’t waste too much time on tiresome obligations and make room for all sorts of creative or even childish activities.

PISCES (FEBRUARY 19 - MARCH 20) For the bigger part of June there will be too much talk and too little action in your life. You will have to turn to matters of your family and home, but more importantly, to your emotional issues and things you haven’t dealt with when the time was right. Remember, you have the energy to pull out anything that is necessary from any experience. Use it to make some progress in your emotional world. As the end of the month approaches and the sign of Cancer becomes the center of activity, you will start feeling better, supported and much more creative. This will be the time to spend it with children and young people, surrounded by youthful energy and laughter as much as possible.

ARIES (MARCH 21 - APRIL 19) During June, Mars will move backwards deep into the sign of Scorpio and won’t turn to direct motion until the very end of this month. You are already used to this retrograde state but it won’t get any easier now that it entered your eighth house, facing you with all of your debts, material or emotional. The best choice would be to give yourself to the past, dig it up, and see what is left for you to resolve. This is the perfect moment to visit a psychologist, or even better get some regression therapy and visit one of your past lives. If this is not your cup of tea, spend as much time in nature as humanly possible, disappear in the woods for a week, or set yourself free from all sexual inhibitions, as liberal as possible and forward in your expression.

TAURUS (APRIL 20 - MAY 20) A San Francisco Highway Patrol Officer, called Kevin Briggs, has talked approximately 200 people out of suicide on the Golden Gate Bridge since 1994. As this month moves along, you will become the primary caregiver of everyone around you, bouncing from communication to compassion and pouring your heart out so that your loved ones get the chance to avoid more hurt. In the first couple of weeks, it will seem like everything in your life is against you and you can’t move forward however hard you try. As time goes by, you will learn to move quicker and accept the lesson Gemini has to give to Venus, looking forward to a more sensitive time in the second half of June.

GEMINI (MAY 21 - JUNE 20) This will be an exciting time when the Sun will move through your sign, leave it and enter Cancer, along with Venus and Mercury in full speed. This would give many opportunities for progress of all sorts, if it wasn’t so hard to put things to motion with retrograde Saturn in your opposing sign. You seem to have someone in your life present only to inhibit your attempts, and make you feel tied down when you’d rather fly away. Instead of bursting into flames angry and resentful, take this time to question the depth of all the choices you’d make. What isn’t supposed to happen, simply won’t, no matter how hard you bang your head against a wall. Follow the path of least resistance and you might be surprised by the beauty of the place in which you’ll end up.

CANCER (JUNE 21 - JULY 22) This month, you will turn to your financial issues once again, even though the last of the fast planets will be leaving the sign of Taurus. You are practical and focused, more than you usually are, and this state of mind should be used to pay off some of your debts or create a savings account that will serve you well for your future plans. By the end of June, the Sun will follow Venus into your sign and Mercury will join them shortly. This should open the door for some new insights and discoveries, and occupy your rational mind for quite a while. Your will is going to return, along with your strength and motivation to move in a certain direction. Use it to finally move forward.

LEO (JULY 23 - AUGUST 22) USPS mail carriers are attacked by 6000 dogs per year. You don’t have to break their record by crossing all sorts of boundaries and causing even more aggression than Mars in retrograde motion stirred up. The right thing to focus on is the transition of your ruler to the sign of Cancer with the first day of spring. This will make you more emotional than in the first couple of weeks. Your attention should turn to your relationship, especially with Venus running over the Sun in Gemini, finally catching up with you. It seems that love has finally found you, and you are ready to settle down and show everything you carry in your heart to someone you feel close to. Let your guard down and allow your emotions to show. Everything proactive and forceful can wait.

VIRGO (AUGUST 23 - SEPTEMBER 22) The time has come to do something about the goals you’ve set a long time ago. With so many planets moving through Gemini, the first half of June is the time to work on yourself, be as useful as possible and constructive in your attempts to get your life in order. This will serve well for a peaceful time that is going to come afterwards, when you will have the opportunity to socialize and communicate, surrounding yourself with people you love. Give your ideas your best shot and try to focus all of the energy you have on yourself. If you scatter it on other people in your life, there won’t be much you’ll be able to do once current opportunities pass you by. If someone doesn’t understand your choices, maybe they should understand that your choices are solely yours to make.

LIBRA (SEPTEMBER 23 - OCTOBER 22) The time has come to do something about the goals you’ve set a long time ago. SCORPIO (OCTOBER 23 - NOVEMBER 21) Ninjas never wore black. Mostly they wore inconspicuous clothing of peasants, merchants, traveling priests, etc. Think of this as you turn to your dark clothes, dark thoughts or dark relationships. There is nothing to be gained by self-destructive behavior, except some irrelevant attention of those around you. Be good to yourself and everyone else will be good to you too. You will have a chance to finally return to yourself it seems. Even with the world upside-down and Mars in retrograde motion, you still feel better now that you have a chance to get your anger out and act in sync with your instincts and emotions. Set free and allow yourself anything you can imagine desirable. Repression is what makes you self-destructive in the first place.

SAGITTARIUS (NOVEMBER 22 - DECEMBER 21) It will be almost possible to make a graph of constructive communication as time goes by. In the first couple of days, everything you say will make sense and there will be a lot of opportunities to listen and be heard. As June progresses, this sense will get lost and communication will become too emotional, difficult and as if someone took your brain out of your head for a couple of weeks. By the end of the month, you will finally manage to resolve some of important issues with a close person, and move on. With Mars sweeping behind you back, you are a bit relieved of anger that has been burdening you for some time now, and important relationships in your life will be possible to fix once again. Try not to push your feelings under a rug or you might end up dealing with same problems again.

CAPRICORN (DECEMBER 22 - JANUARY 19) The tension will multiply as more superficial people find their way into your life. This is the worst possible moment for small talk of any kind, and you will have a hard time adjusting to the need of those around you to talk about irrelevant issues. This will be extremely highlighted in situations with so many important things to discuss, while others seem to have the need to run off into meaningless subjects and words with no value. Watch out for ego battles and try not to take everything personally. It is not easy to handle all of the pressure coming from your superiors or anyone who puts themselves above you. Still, you have ways to avoid conflict and work hard towards your goal until your results prove your point.
