LTG New Term Announcement

!

"Hello sizzling hot Devils! To introduce myself to the entire division, my name is Jennifer Lam and I am honored to serve as your 2014-2015 Lieutenant Governor! I'm currently a junior, soon-to-be senior at Concord High. I love to play basketball and hike, but I wish I had more time to do it. Plus, I like good food. Please feel free to approach me and ask me questions or just get to know me, because I would love to be able to get to know each and every single one of you! (:

!

On the other hand, I am extremely excited to work with all of you this term! This year, I hope to serve our community extensively because service is the KEY - get it? Being able to help and serve the community is really a heartwarming and amazing experience that I want all of you to fall in love with. The love of service comes with the desire to help - specially mothers and children affected by MNT. Let's help eliMiNaTe this year and raise more than we ever have!

!

And then there's spirit! My goal - our goal - should be to win the Spirit Stick once again at FRN! Let's make it a Devil tradition and try for a two-peat! But as long as we're having fun and showing Devil pride, I'll be happy! On this note, I want to thank every single one of you for choosing Key Club. This year, we will serve TOGETHER, make memories TOGETHER, and save lives TOGETHER.

!

Let's spark this year up Red Devils! <3 " OFFICIAL DIVISION 26 NORTH NEWSLETTER | JUNE 2014

Marcus Castro | Executive Assistant

!

Hey D26N! Marcus Castro reporting as your Executive assistant and I attend College Park. I am 14 years young and I'm a freshman so this is my first year doing anything Key Club related. What got me into Key Club was a close friend of mine named Thang and my supportive friend, David. Ever since I joined key club my life just changed for the better. You get service hours while having fun! I really just want many people having fun in key club; the aura of key club radiates friendship and happiness. I would also hope that in this term, I would get to meet a lot more friends. Service has been branded in our blood and we should take advantage of that. I look forward to just having fun and servicing y'all. Thank you guys!

Audrey Vergara | Executive Assistant

!

Hey Devils! I'm one of the two Executive Assistants, Audrey Vergara. I am honored to be serving all of you this upcoming year! As Treasurer of Northgate's Key Club, I personally feel that we should all fundraise together once in a while so that DCON and all the other Key Club events would not be so costly for each of our schools! I see us all as one giant Key Club family and that we should unite for all of our schools and communities to be the very best, like no community ever was. I'm extremely excited for the new achievements that are yet to come! Please continue to spark fires in the people of your community's hearts!

Club Updates

Concord Concord has been fundraising and celebrating ELIMINATE week. We raised a total of almost $80 in just one hour of selling cupcakes and collecting change. We worked at the food bank and will continue to work there hopefully bi-monthly through the summer months! In addition, our club Instagram is now more active which will encourage new members to join and keep active members excited.

  Martinez Easter Egg Hunt !

On the first day of Spring Break, several Concord members got together with College Park members and the Lions Club of Martinez to organize an Easter Egg Hunt. Bright and early Saturday morning, we filled baskets with grass and eggs, then laid hundreds of eggs out. After laying all the eggs out, we waited for the siren to go off which meant the start of the hunt, and there were so many eager kids from ages 2 to 9! Once the siren went off, the kids went crazy. We helped the younger kids who did not exactly know what was going on, and made sure the older children did not fight over eggs. The hunt itself only lasted around a minute, but it took a lot of preparation! - Vanessa Martinez, President

Club Updates College Park

On the first day of May, College Park Key Clubbers helped at the food bank. Instead of packing produce or sorting food, we were cutting boxes and unpacking canned goods. We also dumped out expired sodas that exploded everywhere when we opened them! We helped set up the Multiple Sclerosis Walk on the same day as the DCM, along with other D26N devils. We had a great experience and we can't wait to attend more events!

Jamboree !

On a sunny Sunday morning, College Park Key Clubbers went to Heather Farms park to help out at the Jamboree. The Jamboree allows children with disabilities to play baseball in a safe environment. Key Clubbers hung up posters, handed out schedules and flyers, set up tents, and mostly worked at the spin art station. There were a dozen of colors to choose from, and as the machine spins the paper, the kids adds little droplets of paint and it creates a wonderful piece of artwork. The best part is always seeing the kids carrying a big smile after they see their artwork and admires it in awe.... We really enjoyed working with Challenger Little League, and we hope to have an opportunity to help them again. - Charissa Tseng, Editor

Club Updates Mount Diablo This month we have been working to organize fundraisers for the club and for the Eliminate Project as well as preparing for the end of the year volunteer events we have coming up. We are preparing for KidFest along with our school's sports team in order to get the volunteer stations organized and completed. We are also looking for more volunteer events to end the year strong with work, and even looking into events that can be done at the beginning of next school year.

Senior Day | Multiple Sclerosis Walk !

The volunteer events our club participated in this month were the Senior Day at Independence and the Multiple Sclerosis Walk in Walnut Creek. At the Senior Day, the members painted the elderly’s nails and did some manicures and later, they helped create snacks and appetizers for the seniors and served them. We got to meet many different seniors who told us great stories of “old Concord” living in the 1950s, and they welcomed us back to the home any time. At the Multiple Sclerosis Walk our members worked with other Key Clubs to help cheer on the walkers, pass out medals, give spirit items, and clean up the event. It was our third year working at this event and was really nice coming back to volunteer again! - Lesliejane Pada, President OFFICIAL DIVISION 26 NORTH NEWSLETTER | JUNE 2014

Club Updates

Alhambra On April 19 Alhambra Key Club participated in Martinez's Annual CleanUp Downtown. We were assigned to window duty. Samantha Williams and Laurel Green are shown in this photo. It was really fun:) - Christian Giannini

Northgate As caring is our way of life, we as a club have participated in as many events as we possibly could. We have advertised and funded for the future ICON and DCON events by selling Skinny Cow ice cream, as well as said goodbye to old officers, and hello to the new ones elected. We also participated in other events such as Relay for Life and The 5K Run, which were active events that helped support those with disabilities, as well as supported those who accomplished their own personal gains.

Creek Clean Up !

This event took place at our downtown creek. We helped restore and clean the surrounding environment and made our presence known amongst our community. - Juliette Bautista, Editor OFFICIAL DIVISION 26 NORTH NEWSLETTER | JUNE 2014

Club Updates Antioch Recently, Antioch Key Club had the very first Officer meeting of the 2014-2015 term. Discussions included future fundraisers, future volunteer events, and future membership recruitment. What was planned for the coming weeks, was a fundraising activity at our school. For one day a year, Antioch high hosts an entire day dedicated to Artistic students to show off their skill, called VAPA. This day is an opportunity for the Antioch Key Club to sell food to those hungry individuals. Officers are recruiting members during this time as well. Walking around and informing the students of how great Key Club is, and why they should join. Also, at the 2014 Graduation, we are organizing a booth for students and parents to purchase Hawaiian Leis! We would be Gold and Black Leis prior to the ceremony, as a way to show school spirit! This will get the Antioch high Key Club noticed, and give the outgoing seniors a goodbye souvenir for all of the hard work they put into the school! Possibly, the club members may volunteer for the upcoming Neon Run in SF! Quite possibly, some Antioch members may volunteer with Pittsburg members, in order to build a closer bond with each other. Details are still being rounded into action.

Keep Antioch Beautiful Francisco Loya and Jordan Henderson are surprised to see the camera facing them. With gloves at hand, they placed mulch around newly planted trees and plants. This event was the Keep Antioch Beautiful at Contra Loma Regional Park. Pushing hard with the barrel behind them, Jordan and Francisco rounded many mulch piles and spread it beautifully. “The experience was great! I loved every minute of it,” said Francisco Loya. These club officers definitely know what hard work is, and has a small planted section to prove it! -Francisco Loya, President OFFICIAL DIVISION 26 NORTH NEWSLETTER | JUNE 2014

Club Updates

Multicultural Assembly !

Pittsburg Key Club has a very close partnership with our school’s Filipino-American Club. Most of our members are part of both clubs, and every year, we perform at the annual Multicultural Show in Pittsburg High’s Creative Arts Building. We have been practicing for this event since last year, and we believe that we executed this performance with the energy a Key Clubber would express through their actions. This event brings the student body together, since the diversity of the school is exposed through the magnificent dances that would make classmates and staff appreciate each student’s individuality and unique cultural background. We hope to continue this strong bond between Key Club and Fil-Am Club, and influence future generations of joining both as a way to serve the school and to connect to other people’s cultures. - Roy Golingan, President

Pittsburg !

In the month of May, three of us volunteered at the Multiple Sclerosis Walk at Walnut Creek, we helped set up and break down the place and cheered on the walkers for the event. The day after, we were wearing blue during the first day of Eliminate Week to spread awareness of this project. Right now, we are getting ready to sell graduation leis for all the seniors as a fundraiser both for the club and for Project Eliminate. We are also signing up members for the second Neon Run event in San Francisco by using our new website at pittkeyclub.weebly.com

Spotlight on Service

Kid’s Day at the Food Bank The month of April, Concord High Key Club volunteered at the Food Bank in Concord, Ca. The D26N Red Devils packaged and sorted out dozens of bagged potatoes for the bank. This particular day was “Kids Day” at the Food Bank, meaning that children would volunteer at the bank. This week girl scouts and their parents were helping with the Key Clubbers. The service took place for 11am to 1pm, a total of 3 hours per member. The Key Clubbers enjoyed working with the youth, experiencing new skills, and making a chance in their city. - Gagan Lally, Concord Key Club

Spotlight on Service The Multiple Sclerosis Walk

The Multiple Sclerosis Walk was an event that fundraised money for the National MS (Multiple Sclerosis) Society. There were a few hundred people that participated in the event at Walnut Creek and the Key Clubbers were there to cheer them on to finish the whole track. At the start of the day, we help set up the tents and the booths for registration. Throughout the day, we were assigned various tasks such as handling the food given to the walkers, assisting people who were lost with the registration process, and giving every person a medal once they’ve crossed the finish line. Overall, this was a fun event that made our division bond more with each other since we are just starting a new term.

The May DCM

Jennifer Lam’s first DCM of the term was a total blast! The DCM was held right after the Multiple Sclerosis Walk at Heather Farms Park in Walnut Creek. During the DCM, she was announcing the new Division Leadership Team, including my position, and also the Officer of the Month, President Francisco Loya of Antioch Key Club. After the updates and announcements, Jennifer had several members try to hit her own handcrafted piñatas, and the chaotic cluster of candy-hungry Key Clubbers piled up on the patches of candy. The May DCM was a great start to the bonds forming between the new officers. Thank you all for attending this event, and I hope to see every face on the next one! - Roy Golingan, Division 26 North Editor

Editor’s Closing Roy Samuel Golingan | Pittsburg Key Club President | DNE

Hey Red Devils! My name is Roy Golingan and I am honored to serve as your new Division News Editor for the 2014-2015 Term!

!

!

I applied for the DNE position because I was inspired by several of my friends in Key Club who were also division editors. I saw their newsletters, and I was amazed by the amount of creativity and hard work they put into their publications. I also believe that it’s time for D26N to be in the District’s spotlight, and I will ensure that by the end of this term, CNH will recognize D26N as a GOLDEN division full of distinguished members and officers!

!

I can’t wait to see all the beautiful faces of this new term through the wonderful photos and articles I’m expecting from each of the Key Clubs. Let’s make this the best and most publicized term for D26N! I just know that this division has the potential to do so much with the right kind of leadership, encouragement, and optimism. Keep calm, stay serving, stay Royal.
