Hello Red Devils!
I hope the beginning of the 2017-2018 term is treating you well! I know it's a big transition especially for new officers, but always know I'm here for support. The end of the school year is approaching, but that shouldn't mean we should stop fundraising and volunteering. Instead, take this opportunity and host fundraisers such as selling ribbon lei or go to a local middle school and publicize key club to the 8th graders. But guess what Red Devils?! We served 700 hours for the month of April! Having 30+ volunteers at each Division Wide Service Events and that's amazing especially for the start of the term! Keep up the hard work and let's do more and more service. Sizzling with service,
Lily Yau

editor's note Hi! My name is Amanda Le and I'm honored to serve you as your division news editor 2017-2018. Honestly, I'm scared and excited for what is in store for me but, everything will go swimmingly! I'm stoked to see all of your beautiful faces. I little about me is I love sweet potato (I eat too much of it that I became one) and that I love K-pop! Catch me awkwardly dancing to k-pop songs. Anyways, summer is rolling in and we will be burning with service! Keep up all the hard work my KEY-ute Key Clubbers!
Burning with service,

First DWS of the term
College Park This month’s May DWS took place at Sequoia Elementary Healthy Heroes Fun Run and over 30 Key Club members attended! Members did a variety of tasks. In the morning we ran the water station and watched over the run’s route to ensure all the kids who participated were safe. The run took place over a couple of hours and everyone, especially the kids, had a great time.

We had the pleasure of being able to support this event, which raised money for their physical education program, by directing and guiding the children across the street as well as congratulate them for their determination and support! When the wind picked up and began to blow away canopies and activities, our members also helped to pick them backup. We wanted to stay and help at the gaming booths, but we had to volunteer at a later event, which was requested by our local Kiwanis

On April 15, the Bay point BBQ event conducted by our high school’s program called the CARES. In the event was an easter egg hunt, BBQ, two bounce house, raffle, tie-dye socks, face painting, performances and posters about our school’s academy. At 11 pm, families and students start filling in space and thanks to them that made us represent and take pride in our community. In between the event, winners of the raffle were being drawn and clubs from our high school performed in front of the audience. -Amanda Le, Mount Diablo

Pittsburg As caring is our way of life, Pittsburg’s newly implemented board has made efforts to help our communities. One of the volunteering we did was assist with our school’s play Macbeth. We participated in making the props, ushering, and I even had the chance of working the sound/light. It was an amazing experience seeing how much work goes into theater, and everyone enjoyed themselves through the process! -Kelly Pham, Pittsburg
Participating in the green project was so fun! We picked up plastic water bottles found amongst Pittsburg parks and reused them as plant containers. This was a great project to start off the first month of the term, as well as a bonding experience for the board. Overall it was a great experience met with some challenges, but without this project, I don’t think I would have learned how to even do a box knot. -Ashley Navas, Pittsburg

Deer Valley On Earth Day, April 22, the city of Antioch hosted its annual citywide clean-up the event called “Keep Antioch Beautiful” from 8:30-11am. Five of our members went and participated in this event. We got to help clean up around town, and boy was there a lot of trash! This really got the community together by cleaning up the city and collectively making Antioch a cleaner place to live in.

On April 22nd we had four members go to the DWS/DCM where we learned how to make leis. We then took this knowledge and made leis during school to sell to the seniors for graduation, with the profits going to Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP) and to funding our club.
