WOO IT'S HOT IN HERE! There must be some reading Devils in the atmosphere!

Welcome to the September Newsletter, this newsletter wraps up the busy SUMMER of the term. I'm so proud of how much Division 26 North have done so far. Seeing everyone work so hard to recruit at registration and to prepare for club rush inspires me to work even harder to serve you all! I'm so excited to see the spirit come together at BIG upcoming events such as Region Training Conference and Fall Rally North. Those are the two events that really sparked my passion for Key Club and opened my eyes in seeing how impactful this organization is. I highly recommend you all to attend RTC and FRN, they both are truly unforgettable experiences. Sizzling with service,

Lily Yau

Lieutenant Governor 2017-2018

How to app

Posters, school announcements, and displays at orientation meetings are a way to open membership to upcoming members. Placing them places where students roam the most is extremely important.

6

roach potential members Using a "gimmick" can also provide information and peek interests of potential members. It can be anything from drawing free tickets to building the biggest banana split. Make sure to advertise in order to encourage attendance and gain a bigger response!Â

Social gatherings are one of the most effective ways to gain members. Make this gathering fun but also informative!Remember, membership is welcome to ANYONE! One single person can boast how active members are as well as a successful service record!

Cleaning E10 10

July and August were the perfect months to rack in service hours! A service project we did took place on August 8th. Our awesome treasurer set up a date and time to clean up one of her teacher’s classrooms before the school year starts! On that day, three members arrived at E10 and started working by retaping posters that have become crooked. After that, we began putting up enlarged photographs that Miss Hawkes, our teacher, took herself. Later, we started scrubbing down the lab tables with cleaning supplies that we brought. When we sprayed the solution, it started turning this gross shade of yellow. After wiping the tables, our hands were stained that color, which was most definitely a sign that those lab tables don’t get cleaned enough! At first, we thought that cleaning a classroom wouldn’t be an effective service project since it would be unused during the summer. After that day, we realized that it really does make a difference after only two hours of work! Miss Hawkes was really thankful for what we did and she’s ready to start the year with an organized and tidy classroom! Christine Tran | Clayton Valley

As

On July 25th & 26th Heritage Key Club participated in the band room clean up. It was located in the Heritage High School band room. The room was not in the best shape from the previous school year, and the fact that no on had cleaned it over summer added to the mess. Even the band president Amelia was surprised at the rooms state,“The band room hasn't been cleaned for a while, it’s dirtier than I have ever seen it!”. Key Club participated in the clean up for two days. Over those two days Key Club members cleaned up for around four hours in total. Key club was responsible for the following: taking out the trash, cleaning windows, organizing binders, dusting, sweeping, and organizing the room. The Key Club met up with a handful of band members who volunteered to help clean the band room as well. Everybody worked together and had a great time! Well, as great as one can be while cleaning. The Key Club was

able to meet and interact with many new faces, and even form some new friendships in the span of 2 days. After cleaning, the band room practically sparkling. The Heritage High School band spends almost everyday in the band room practicing or just hanging out, so to have it thoroughly cleaned for their first time in months was a huge help on band members. Through these two days, Heritage Key Club obtained volunteer hours, met new people, and felt a sense of pride for helping our school. Key Club member Caroline felt inspired after cleaning, “I’ve never realized how dirty the room was, it was really nice to help the band out!”. Heritage High School takes pride in having a clean campus, and taking part in helping the school gave the Key Club a great deal of satisfaction. A few days after the clean up the club gathered at Kayley’s house and went over volunteer opportunities and ways to promote the club for the new school year! Ashley Eslick | Heritage

Concord Clean-up

This month our club participated in the Concord Cleanup on July 8th at Newall Park. Due to most of our members being on vacation, only Claire Stone (president) and Jake Zamora (member) were able to attend. Jake and Claire both worked extremely hard for 4 hours picking up litter from around the park. Although we didn’t have many people from our club attend, there were lots of other volunteers there who were excited to make a difference by cleaning up the park. Abi Herrick | Alhambra

The Region 9 Olympics this year was a great opportunity to meet other Key Club members and work together! The Olympics took place on July 22nd in Alameda. Many region 9 Key Club members came and they all had fun! During the Olympics, there were four teams: team Captain America, team SpiderMan, team Superman, and team Batman. As all the Key Club members arrived, they were randomly put in a superhero group. Within their group they met other Key clubbers and were able to work together to try and win the games and challenges. There were even water balloons! Overall, I think that events like the Olympics are not only super fun, but you get to know other Key Clubs and have fun with them as well. Key Club becomes better when you get to interact with all the other clubs. These types of events make Key Club members become more cooperative and more motivated. Lark Chang-Yeh | Northgate

Kickin' off the School Year with New Ideas

This past Thursday, the new members of council gathered to discuss new ideas and plans for the upcoming school year. This will be Liberty first full year as members of the Key Club, so we as the Council are very excited to make this year a memorable one. Bustling nonstop with fundraiser ideas, community service projects, and bonding experiences for our new members, this council is ready to start the year with a bang! As we sit down, pencils, notebooks, and laptops in hand; we begin to realize what a big job n front of us we have. We debate and discuss ideas for hours, trying to fit everything from the agenda onto our calendar; So many things to do, so little time; applies now more than ever. Still, many exciting things are planned; from shoe box breakfasts to working in soup kitchens and helping out with the local canned food drive. Another important item on the agenda was introductions. Introductions amongst officers and meeting with the new members. As there were some new officers, a lot of us needed to some introductions. Hello were said around the table and we quickly settled into a comfortable and friendly atmosphere. After all, we had work that needed to be done, and our first stop was finding a way to introduce all the new club members into our key club family. After much debate, we decided upon a Shoebox Breakfast and Penny Collection. It ended up being a great way for club members to bond while eating breakfast and fundraising at the same time! Now that we all know each other we are so excited to have this great opportunity to work together to make our community a better place.

On our agenda we also discussed homecoming, social media, and club rush, as ways to make our club well-known in the community. First off is homecoming; at homecoming, we hope to walk in the parade, in order to reach out and make our club more well known to parents and incoming Freshman. Another great way to reach out to students is social media. Our Social Media Coordinator, Kayla, has done a fantastic job advertising our club via twitter, snapchat, and Instagram. She has made posts about our council, called meet the council, where you can learn more about the council for the upcoming school year, as well as made digital flyers for our different events such as the Shoebox Breakfast and Penny Collection. Last but not least, club rush is a way for our club to get lots of new members. We hope to reach three hundred sign ups and we are already well on our way to meeting our goal with a little over two hundred sign ups from walk through alone. We are so excited to make this year amazing and we can’t wait to grow together and as a club! Emily Eaton | Liberty
