Stay updated as best you can with club, division, district, and even international news, and use this time to educate yourself on how to get more involved in Key Club as well as your community! It made me very happy to see all the creative ways our officers have kept service alive while maintaining safety protocols, and even happier to see everyone who participated:). A letter from your

Lieutenant Governor

Hello Red Devils! I hope you are all staying safe with lockdown happening again. It’s a bit saddening since I had some in person socially-distanced events planned for December :( but that isn’t stopping us from continuing to have an eventful month! From DCMs to fundraisers to projects to awards season, we’re prepping for a busy next two months, but we can achieve so much as long as we work hard and together. Officers: continue to finish strong and do your your tasks and plan ahead. Members: continue to help your club and attend as many events as you can along wkdjk with helping others when needed. Thanks so much for quite an interesting 2020. See you all next year! ;)

-Edeline Ong Lieutenant Governor 2020-2021

2. What are some goals you have for this year? (within Key Club) 3. Who is one person (in Key Club) you're thankful for and why?

OFFICER INTERVIEWS

Golnaz Ahmadieh Alhambra Vice Prez

AustynAlhambra Perez Editor 1. I would say my Key Club Moment was when my fellow Key Club officers and I met up at a park in our town and made ghostly goodie bags for a Halloween service event. It was a social distanced activity but still very fun. It was memorable because it was the first time I interacted with the officers in person and we laughed, talked, and bonded really well. We played good music while we made the goodie bags and we created a system so that the process would go smooth and fast. I'm really glad all of us got to do the activity together! 2. I have many goals for our club this year. The first goal I have is to set up more service events with social distancing and masks that are fun and engaging! Although times are difficult and we can't do as much as we could before in the past, that doesn't mean we can't paticipate in service and bonding events. Another goal I have is to be more engagin at meetings and to gather more members at meetings. I hope that the other officers and I can encourage our current members to communicate with their friends and tell them to join our club! The more, the merrier:). 3. I am really thankful for Kaitlin Bituen, our treasurer. She is the first person I reached out to when I wanted to join Key Club, and she was so sweet, even during our first conersation. She also rooted for me when I interviewed to be the vice president and I'm so grateful for that because I couldn't have done it without her. Also, she constantly puts in her all for Key Club and works hard to create fun service events/bonding events for memebers! She is very organized and a really good communicator also. Overall, I can't imagine our Key Club without her, she is awesome!

Officer Interviews

1. During my Freshman year, I attended one of my first community service events outside of the school. The even itself was so much fun, but having other members there to help me and give me advice was heartwarming and gave me the sense of community within the club, something I hadn't seen anywhere else. 2. As an officer, my goal is to develop new and safe community service and bonding events for our club! I also want to make our group more organized. 3. I'm thankful for my officers who work together and constantly communicate. We also have new ideas we share and support and build each other up.

Dozier-Libbey Key Club held a conjoined service event with Deer Valley that spanned for three days. For this service event, we created origami cranes for babies in the NICU at Alta Bates in Berkeley! These super-cute paper cranes will be made into decorations (like mobiles) to share joy and hope to the young ones, their families, and the hospital staff. Together, we hosted a total of three Zoom calls on November 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. During these two-hour meetings, members had the chance to make cranes with each other’s virtual company! We hope that these charming decorations bring a sense of warmth and comfort to the affected families, the

the diligent medical personnel, and those who have no one to visit them. During these difficult unprecedented times, it is important to continuously spread love and light at the end of the tunnel, so thank you to those who have contributed their time and efforts with this project.

OCTOBER A/V'S

IN-PERSON BONDING + SERVICE Article by: Ashlee Davies, Heritage

At our first in-person event of the term on October 17th, members met at a park to make dog toys and cards for health care workers. This event was a great opportunity for members to rekindle their spirit for service after the difficulty to be active in Key Club over the shelter in place. Following COVID-19 precaut ions, we were able to convene for service while still staying safe. We also took this opportunity to collect member’s dues and books for our book drive. One member, Abbey Bracamonte, recounted, “Key Club’s first in-person event was really fun. I haven’t seen most of the members since March, so it was so nice seeing everyone in person and not through a screen. It was also nice to see everyone wearing masks and social distancing. Connecting back to the initial reason why we join Key Club is a great motivator to stay involved, especially since we are limited to our events that we are able to have.

In order to raise money for PTP, Alhambra’s Key Club made “Ghostly Goodie Bags” just in time for Halloween. The festive bags were sold at $5 each, or 2 for $8, with all proceeds going to the Pediatric Trauma Program. We even dropped off goodie bags for an additional dollar. The goodie bags featured nut-free chocolate, candy, chips, and Halloweenthemed filler. Alhambra’s officers met up and organized over 52 bags for our members. A big thank you to them for taking the time to do that and thank you to everyone who purchased the goodie bags. In the end, we raised over $100 dollars for PTP. We hope to do similar events such as this one for the upcoming holidays!

Recycling for PTP, Informational Zoom | Dec. 02 | Our club held an informational zoom meeting about an upcoming event. We had a special guest at this Informational Meeting, it was an employee with the Recycling center we partnered with to help raise donations for recycling. He went over the various guidelines and sorting requirements that his center has. Lastly, Jasmine went over information on how to be more environmentally aware. Some points she brought on this topic was Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, switch off all the lights and unplug any cords you aren’t using, and transition to reusable mugs, water bottles, and straws, avoid using plastic unless you absolutely need to! Recycling for PTP, Collection Day | Dec. 05 | This event took place at John F. Baldwin Park in Concord. We are so happy to have had many volunteers stay for both shifts to help sort and count through the endless amounts of plastics, aluminum, and glass members brought. We set up different tables to be a different sorting station per category. One table was a check in table where an officer would take the temperature of a volunteer or participant and ask them questions related to their health and any concerns. In total, all the participants and volunteers sorted through 4000+ pieces of recyclables. We also had members and officers earn a total number of 52 hours of volunteering. In the end, the amount of donations from recyclables was approximately $200!

TOYS 4 TOTS

Article by: Kevin Nguyen, Freedom

On December 3rd, from 4pm - 6pm, Freedom Key Club members went to the front of the Freedom High School gym to help out with the “Toys 4 Tots” Drop-Drive Thru! This event is designed to raise food and toys for those who can not afford such goods during the holidays. Bringing spirit, four members came socially distanced, and brought good cheer to those who passed by, even if the cars were not there to donate anything! From all the toys and nonperishable foods that were given, great thanks is shown to everyone and holiday cheer is shown despite the difficult time of COVID. Overall, everyone had a blast to be able to see other human beings for the first time in a while! Our fabulous Secretary, Elan Alaura, reveals her jubilation from participating with the event as she exclaims, “The Toys 4 Tots event was super fun and it was nice to finally have an inperson project, even if it was socially distanced. It was also nice working with leadership as well and knowing the donations were going to be making kids happy was motivating!” As shown, Elan felt her heart respark with hope with the interactions between other fellow Key Club members, even if it was socially distanced with masks on. This event then exhibits the healing that occurs throughout the social interactions and joys that are shown in the holiday spirit.
