club updates

Carrie Huang SECA

Hi Grizzlies! I hope you are all staying cool because the heat has been insane lately! This past month of June, SECA only had one volunteering opportunity at a local Italian Festival. Despite working outside in 100+ degree weather, giving up a few hours of our time to serve others was a wonderful feeling. My board and I are taking advantage of the summer months by planning service events, fundraisers, and other projects for the coming school year. We will be having a club meeting/potluck in late July or early August to discuss the upcoming year. A few SECA Key Clubbers attended OTC, and we really enjoyed the workshops, icebreakers, and Grizzly company! We will see you guys again at the July DCM!

Hello Grizzlies! I hope everyone is having a fun summer. This month our club helped out at the Obon Bazaar Festival in Lodi. During the festival we helped out at different game stations such as a bean bag toss and a ball toss where the kids could win goldfish. All of the funds raised went to the Buddhist Church. This month our club also had a great time at DCM/OTC. Our council learned more valuable information to better serve our members. We had a lot of fun playing ice breakers and meeting new people. Hopefully we will see all of our new/old friends at the next DCM!

In this past month Lodi High has been contacting many people for new volunteer opportunities! On the eighth we were given the opportunity to volunteer with Relay for Life of Stockton at Bear Creek High School. We spent the day carrying the Relay for Life flags all around the track and attaching glow sticks to water bottles for the night run. It was a great experience for us to see how dedicated all the attendees were to fighting the seemingly endless battle with cancer. On the 29th of the past month we also attended our division’s OTC where our past president Kathy Le presented a workshop on fundraising and we enjoyed getting to meet all the new officers in our division. We are currently trying to obtain more volunteer opportunities for the future and have a pizza night at Rick’s Pizza in Lodi on July 24th to fundraise for the new school year of Key Club!

Hello fellow Grizzles!!! This past month has been kind of slow. First off, some of the officers and members attended the OTC and June DCM. It was a fun experience to be able to meet other officers and members. Also, we learned a lot more about our positions and are now ready to serve our key club ohana. For July 4th, some of us volunteered at the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast along with other key clubbers from Lodi and McNair. We helped with setting up the tables, serving the food, and cleaning up afterwards. The event was awesome as we got to help out the community and bond with some other key clubbers. For the future, we have planned a Kiwanis takeover meeting to meet some Kiwanis members and fundraise. Also, I’m going to try to plan some more community service opportunities.

For the month of June, Middle College had one fundraising event and one service event along with attendance at the annual Officer Training Conference. On June 12 we had a Lollicup fundraiser and I just wanted to take this time to thank those who participated and came out to support us because it truly means a lot. You guys truly are Ohana! As for the service event, our club got to volunteer at the Stockton Boys and Girls Club’s carnival that was held on June 27. We were in charge of supervising and making sure that the kids who enjoyed the day’s festivities were following the rules and playing safe. Now that this month is over, we can eagerly look towards July for more service opportunities. Our school only has one more month of Summer break left and we’re determined to be as productive as possible before we start preparing for the upcoming school year!

What’s up Grizzlies! So last month we just volunteered at a Blood Drive in Trinity Parkway. We’re having an officer meet-up next week to discuss plans for the upcoming year. As the start of school is nearing, we’re planning to have fundraisers to earn money for PTP! It’s been a rough time looking for service events throughout the summer. Nonetheless, for this upcoming month we’re set up to volunteer at St. Mary’s Dining Hall and the Homeless Shelter.

Greetings, Grizzlies! On June 15, our Key Club members volunteered at the Astronomy in the Park event at Oak Grove Regional Park. They volunteered at different booths such as Create a Constellation and the Moon Matching Game. On June 22, we volunteered at Gospel Center Rescue Mission’s “Moving Forward” Benefit concert. Some of our members volunteered at the ticket/merchandise sales table. They sold tickets before the show and sold CDs after the show. Our other members volunteered as art auction wall ushers. These members passed out programs and reminded the concert attendees about the art auction. Our members who went to the OTC enjoyed learning more about Key Club. Our officers who went also enjoyed learning about their position. I hope everyone is having a great summer!

This month we did not have any service events however, there are future events planned for July. Two events that fall in July involve our club helping out the Kiwanis and their pancake breakfast, setting up and the day of. However, we did host a fundraiser at Nubi Yogurt on June 18. Information on it being a great success is yet to be known. Some future events may also be coming once school is about to start, but for now those are possibilities.

Romuel Trocino | Bear Creek| The Obon Bazaar

The Obon Bazaar had game booths where children were able to play and earn tickets to get prizes, and as volunteers, we were assigned to different ones to work at. Although I wasn’t doing much when assigned to the ticket booth, my friend and I were switched to a game booth where it required more moving. Throughout the day, many kids occupied our booth and kept us on our feet constantly in the blazing heat. Regardless of the temperature, I was still able to enjoy it and witness many children having a good time among the different game booths. There were also many families getting together and socializing with one another which created a friendly and light mood in the atmosphere. To me, the Obon Bazaar seemed to help create memorable moments for families and friends along with sharing their culture. Overall volunteering at the Obon Bazaar was a great experience and I am happy to have been a part of it.

Aman Paneser | SECA| Festa Italiana At the first annual Festa Italiana, we had our volunteers help at admission, check in other volunteers, pass out water to all the different booths, and watch over children in the jumpers area. A few of our members also worked at one of the booths. While our members were working, they were also able to enjoy live entertainment and get a taste of Italian culture. In return for our service, the organizers awarded our members with an admission ticket to the festival.

Vanessa Cheang | MCHS | Boys and Girls Club On June 27th, members of Middle College’s Key Club volunteered at the carnival for the Stockton Boys and Girls Club. We were all assigned to different stations to make sure all the kids were safe during this event. Most of us were stationed at the jump houses and waters slides. Some the kids even asked us to jump and go down the slides with them. There was also a dunk tank where we helped people get in and out safely, and we ran around to catch the balls and handed them out. This event was a great way to bond with the members of our club and the children of the Boys and Girls Club. It was a fun day, and it was wonderful seeing all the smiles on the kids’ faces!

Alicia Eam | Chavez | Blood Drive Last month, a few of my fellow Key Clubbers and I volunteered at a Blood Drive in Trinity Parkway. There were huge RV’s set up in the Walmart parking lot with KWIN there advertising. We did numerous tasks like waving a Blood Drive sign, greeting and interacting blood donors, bringing them refreshments, watching their kids, and picking up trash. Although the outcome wasn’t much, there was enough blood donated to save 50+ lives. Even though it was outrageously hot, it didn’t stop us from having a good time!

Fara Suiza|Lodi |Relay for Life Even though it seems pretty boring to sit around and wrap glow sticks to water bottles all day, I had a lot of fun at the Relay for Life. We got to meet new people and basically just got to have free talking time while still getting a lot of work done for the event!
