hello grizzlies! Can you believe that it is the end of summer break already? I cannot. Although COVID-19 has had a huge toll on each of our lives, I believe that we have made great progress with our Division Goals. So far, we have served over 500 hours of service! Keep it up Grizzlies! Unfortunately, we have not had a fundraiser over the past couple of months. However, on the 8th, we will be hosting our first fundraiser at Chipotle! Please bring your families and show your digital flyers at the Chipotle near the mall. This would mean the world to me for you guys if you can go! In June, Division 27 North and South hosted an Officer Training Conference! We had a total of 67 members attend. I am truly amazed with your guys participation through this pandemic. Thank you all for keeping your spirits high! Please continue to attend events that are coming up as they are only going to get more entertaining the more you go. This Newsletter contains important information that you may need to know for the month of August. Thank you once again for serving your communities. I hope to see you all soon!

Key Club moment hailey phan - middle college high school hi grizzlies !! my name is hailey phan and i have the honor of serving you all as one of your Executive Assistants as well as my club, middle college, as their president. in all honesty, i experience a "key club moment" at least once a year, and i think that's what i need to keep my burning passion for this club alive. the first one happened during my freshman year at a very popular service event my club hosts, Bagging at Quail Lakes. it was the first time i was actively involved in a service event, and when i say actively, i mean we were working 24/7 with little to no breaks. the event was an absolute vibe. i built so many bonds just from that service event alone because it allowed for all of us to listen to music, talk amongst each other, and work with one another to get a job done. after it all, i realized how many bags we actually finished and how much we had been able to box together, and that realization is what led me to truly see what we could do collectively as a group for our community. the second key club moment happened around December of my sophomore year (2019), and it was at an event that i helped host called Grizzly's Workshop. if you did not know, i served as an executive assistant during the 2019-2020 term and i worked very closely with the ltg at the time, antonio quesada, to pull together this event. i had very little hopes as the planning was honestly really last minute LOL. but as members continued to roll in and advisors continued to put in their support, we were able to hold a successful event. i ran around the entire time making sure everyone was able to wrap up presents and label while also enjoying their time with each other. at the end of the day we were able to make (yes i still have the exact number to this day) 13 baskets, 15 Gift Bags, 88 Presents, and 173 Goodie Bags, with everything getting donated the very next weekend. this was definitely the bigger key club moment i had because it revealed a deeper part of me that strived to be a leader and put my heart and soul into a single event. this event truly is what i believe key club is and should always be about: coming together to work for and serve our community (while having fun and vibing with friends at the same time). if you've made it this far, thank you hehe for listening to me ramble on about why i love this club so much. do your service !! i love you all :)

caitlyn nunez - tokay high school The Serve-A-Thon event was where I had my Key Club moment and decided to become more involved from then on. I was never really involved in Key Club during freshman year, so I had no idea what to expect for the event. There were several service opportunities we participated in and even had water activities. I didn't know you could have so much fun while serving your community at the same time! After leaving the event, I couldn't stop thinking about how amazing that experience was. I have never felt so determined and excited about a club before. From then on, I have attended almost every Key Club event and plan to become even more involved in the future!

ava acevedo - lodi high school Every morning in June that I read stories to two elementary school students over a zoom call, I felt like I had a purpose. My presence made Robbie and Addison happy, and that gave me all the reason I needed to keep showing up. I started out a little nervous, but I soon learned that both students were very loving, funny, and unique kids who liked me for who I was at heart. By simply talking with them, this Key Club Moment gave me the feeling that I was making a true difference. Robbie and Addison taught me how important it is to pay close attention to others to show them you care about them. I hope I made them feel as loved and cared for as they made me feel.

officer training conference Members and officers of D27 North and South got together to discuss the important jobs and the importance of Key Club. It was an informative event held on discord, where the presenters tried their very best to train their audience with the amazing slides they have made for that designated session that us officers and general members chose to join. I think I can speak for many when I say we LOVED the OTC’s theme of “The Avatar: The Last Airbender, as a bunch of us are big fans!! Both president and vice president, Erik and Alynna explained how they both loved that they tried to host this event on a different platform other than Zoom and how they are trying to figure ways to make these virtual events work. Erik stated, “I thought using discord was a fun and unique way to contact people during these complicated times and a good way to get to know more people.” Alynna goes on to express, “I had an amazing time playing icebreakers and hearing the voices of other members.”

mcbear holt interclub

The McBear Holt Interclub was an event where members played games, and made no sew face masks. It was held on Wednesday, June 17th from 3-5 P.M. There were around eight people that attended. At first members played pictionary where Cat Cordero drew various images and everyone else guessed what they were. Then, Inderpreet Kaur asked participants would you rather questions. People held up one or two fingers depending on which option they chose. Inderpreet would then choose someone randomly to explain their answer. After, Dana Tran started the explanation of how to create the no sew masks. All the supplies required included, a shirt, scissors, and a ruler. Everyone stayed at the same pace, then revealed the final product that was created. Overall, a very fun event and benefited those who did not already have a regular mask because they learned how to create their own.

cesar chavez and lodi interclub On June 19th, Cesar Chavez High School hosted a Zoom interclub with Lodi High School. At the Interclub, participants from both schools introduced one another to each other. We each asked each other how we’re holding up during quarantine and what we have been doing to keep ourselves from always being bored. We then crafted cards for essential works such as hospital workers, grocery workers, delivery services, etc. The purpose of the cards were to show our appreciation for the workers who are continuing to do their jobs during these hard times to keep our economy running while COVID-19 is still present as they are also putting their lives on the line to keep everyone else safe. After making note cards for the essential workers. With one hour left of the interclub, we all spent the remainder of the time playing Skribbl.io together and getting to know each other even more. This interclub gave us all the opportunity to meet other key clubbers in our division because the world is full of so many other people, we won’t interact with the same people like we met today.
