It certainly has been a honor and pleasure working alongside all of you. Although this is the first year D27N has been established after realignment, we have made tremendous progress, not just in service hours but as well as grizzly spirit! Give yourselves a round of applause and a pat in the back. With this, the HIGHLY anticipated state-wide event, DCON, is just a few months away! Start fundraising and discussing this with your clubs as you will most definitely have the time of your life in Anaheim! Serving with grizzly spirit, DTE Carmen Chen

WOAH! A whole new year has finally come and I am so proud of you grizzlies! With the increasing amount of service hours to the limitless spirit you all have shown, I have seen nothing but pure dedication. Thank you all for your hard work and effort, especially those on the event committees. I cannot express enough my gratitude and appreciation of the time spent in prepping for DCMs and The Function as well. As elections roll around the corner, let us not forget to thank our current board for their perseverance in making all these events possible. DCON is slowly approaching, and believe me, you WILL NOT regret the decision of attending!

Hey Grizzlies! This past month SECA has continued to volunteer at Peyton Elementary with their after school program as tutors/helpers. We were unable to hold a couple of meetings for the month (unfortunately) and we’ve been a bit inactive but we’re getting back on our feet :) we are currently doing a hot chocolate sale/ fundraiser this week.

Hello Grizzlies!! MCHS had the wonderful opportunity to write Christmas cards for soldiers in honor of Veterans Day in November. We wrote over 200 cards wishing them a wonderful holiday season and thanking them for their service to our country! Service is always needed within communities, especially during the holidays, so we definitely wanted to focus on making sure everyone is well fed! We began canned food drive and will be closing it on December 15th. I’m definitely looking forward to delivering them to the Stockton Food Bank! Along with the spirit of the season, we also had the wonderful opportunity to volunteer at Lodi’s Festival of Trees! DCON is getting closer and closer, and some members have already began fundraising! It’s never too late to start on that! Until next time, have a wonderful break everyone!!!

NT CLUB UPDATES STEPHANIE ANG, CAESAR CHAVEZ This Saturday, Key Club collaborated with MECHA for its annual CHP Toy Drive. It was located in front of WalMart and members had to be extremely spirited. People walking into the store saw how spirited our members were and decided to purchase an item for the toy drive. Members had a great time and are looking forward to helping out next year. A few weeks ago, Chavez volunteered at the Saint Mary’s Dining Hall. We sliced cakes, minced vegetables, served food, and put away tables. Members had a great time serving those in need and realized how they shouldn’t take things for granted. We also got to talk to some people and they told us some interesting stories. Next Saturday and Sunday we will be volunteering at the Salvation Army once again. We will package and wrap presents for the needy. Our members are excited to help out. Currently we are brainstorming ideas for our next fundraiser. Members are thinking of selling teddy bears holding a candy rose for Valentine’s Day. I think it’ll become a hit amongst the school.
In November, Lincoln hosted D27N’s first ever dodge ball tournament! Despite the rain prior to the meeting and the cold weather, members still came out to Nelson Park and were enthusiastic to play dodge ball! Everyone had a great time playing, and the DCM was a success! On December 1st and 2nd, we volunteered at the Festival of Trees held every year during December at Micke Grove in Lodi. At the Festival of Trees, we were assigned different stations; many stamped bingo cards, opened doors for people who were walking in and out of buildings, made lamb and snowman ornaments for children, decorated Christmas bags, made and decorated candles, and created snow globes. We had a great time and were happy that we were able to help kids prepare for the holiday season. On the following week on December 7th, we volunteered at the Musical Blessings concert at Presentation Church. We helped set up chairs and music stands for the concert, and handed out programs once people started arriving. We also regulated the refreshments table, and even got to eat the leftover cookies!

LODI HIGH
Lodi has currently raised over $350 for the Eliminate Project! As well as this, we completed over twelve hours of community service at Barnes and Noble by gift wrapping presents and made over $330 in tips to go towards our club funds and DCON. I am overwhelmingly proud of my club since this is just our first year! Along with raising much money, we are planning to set up a new service project with Environmental Club and Mecha Club in January.

McNair participated at our first Campus Clean Up of the year, at Food 4 Less’s Stuff the Bus, and a few volunteered at the Mickey Grove Zoo Lights. During Campus Clean Up, all clubs split their groups into four or so and went separate ways to pick up trash. At Stuff the Bus, in less than 10 hours, we gathered around 8,000 pound of food for the Salvation Army. Lastly, at the Mickey Grove Zoo Lights, a few of our members were able to sign up and assist during the event. At the moment, we are having our collaboration with our school’s Hmong Club with our Santa’s Helper event by donating gloves, socks, etc. to the Saint Mary’s Family Shelter of 130.

THE FUNCTION recap.. Haroar there Grizzlies! If you didn’t already know, our division just had its very first dance: The Function! The Function was a great event to interact and meat (pun intended) other key clubbers within our division. It was the perfect opportunity to forget about the stressful situations that school brought upon us and to have the time of your life. If you didn’t go, fear not, as there will always be more opportunities! But if you did, be loud and proud! Just by attending the event, you have supported the Pediatric Trauma Program. The Function was truly a memorable experience, and last but not least, remember to care, serve, and change lives! Happy Haroardays Grizzlies!

The Festival of Trees was an event held at the Micke Grove Regional Park in which volunteers were able to aid children and parents in preparing for the Christmas season. From candles to ornaments, Key Club volunteers swarmed the opportunity to craft small art pieces to connect with children. Although many were new volunteers to the scene, the welcoming and heart-warming feel generated by the people quickly elicited their true Key Club volunteer spirit. I, myself, was a new member to the festival and after being able to produce hands-on work with children I developed a deep admiration towards my community. Not only did I have a fun time working with our youth, but also I was able to physically sit down with them and contently listen to their amazing stories as we worked on making adorable lamb ornaments. Although this work was heartfelt, it was not my only job at the festival. During the beginning of the festival I was hired as the doorman to simply open doors and close them for people entering or exiting the main building. Many would belittle this job as excruciatingly irksome; however, it became quite the contrary. Many do not acknowledge the comments and conversations that simply performing a gesture of kindness for someone can generate. I met many new faces that brightened my spirit on such a gloomy day by simply opening and closing a door. I also was able to meet many fellow Key Club members from different schools who presented me with astonishing stories - one in particular I met through opening doors proved to be quite interesting as we shared the same interests and future goals. The Festival of Trees was an exciting event that enabled many Key Club volunteers like myself to socialize and crack smiles with the people of our community all while aiding them to prepare for the Christmas season.

FESTIVAL OF TREES

STUFF THE BUS
SUBMITTED BY: CHRISTINA GUTIERREZ, McNair had a blast at the three day event of Stuff the Bus, but we were only able to volunteer on the Saturday and Sunday of November 17 and 18. Even in the hard and cold rain on Saturday, we still made the time gathering food for the Salvation Army a fun, singing, and dancing memorable memories. My group was stationed at the Walmart near the Food 4 Less and at the end of our shifts, we were able to successfully gathered a full cart to “stuff” the bus. We were estatic about collecting the food that it took us by surprise when the “Stuffed the Bus” bus locked us in. My group and the event coordinator had a fun and interesting time trying to figure out the buttons and gears to open the door. But at the end, I would say we did a success by helping the community helping the Salvation Army.
