LTG REMARKS Happy new year, everybody! We accomplished so much in 2013, but believe me when I say that the best has yet to come. In just 8 months, YOU have completed more than 5,000 hours of service. YOU helped raise thousands of dollars for PTP and the Eliminate Project. YOU helped to increase membership and welcomed yet another club to the Division! I want to thank YOU, Grizzlies, for giving your communities and me a tremendous year. I sincerely hope 2014 has treated you well so far. While we only have three months left in the term, remember how important it is to power through to the end no matter what place you’re in right now. Perform service for the sake of service; give for the benefit of others, even if it may not mean the best for you, because success does take a little sacrifice. As time passes, I hope you come to share in my pride that we have been able to grow, serve, and lead together - that we are not just 9 clubs; we are not just 2 cities; we are not simply 900 members, but we are one ohana. And I can’t wait to see this ohana unite with our sister division once again at Conclave!

club updates BEAR CREEK Hey everyone! I hope everyone had a great time with their love ones during Thanksgiving. I’m truly thankful to have met all of the friends that I’ve made through Key Club :) This past month Bear Creek volunteered at the Salvation Army and Micke Grove Zoo Lights. At the Salvation Army we were able to to help pass out food and turkeys to those who are less fortunate to better their Thanksgiving. At the event we also passed out hot coffee and donuts to those who were waiting in line. During the Micke Grove Zoo Lights, each member had a different event to help out at every night. The activities ranged from cute art booths, to food art, to being Santa’s helper, helping with games/food, or helping with the hay ride.

LINCOLN Hello everyone! On November 26, we volunteered at the Emergency Food Bank and helped out at their Thanksgiving Food Box Giveaway event. We packaged food and helped people carry out food to their cars. On Thanksgiving Day, we volunteered at the Run & Walk Against Hunger. We volunteered at the refreshments booth. On December 7 and 8, we volunteered at the Festival of Trees. Our members volunteered at various booths including candle making, cookie decorating, and children’s crafts. Happy Holidays, Grizzlies!

SECA What’s up, Grizzlies? It has been freezing lately, so remember to layer up and stay warm during the winter season. In the month of November, the SECA Key Club volunteered at St. Joseph’s Half Marathon and 5K, Lathrop’s Veterans Day Ceremony, Bread of Life, and Zoo Lights at Micke Grove Zoo. We enjoyed giving back to the community at these events, while simultaneously having fun and bonding with one another. A few of our members attended the November DCM, and we had fun participating in the white elephant gift exchange and Web of Appreciation icebreaker. Over winter break, aside from hibernating and catching up on sleep, the SECA Key Club will continue to serve others; we have several service events planned in late-December and January. Happy Holidays, and see you all at the next DCM!

Middle College This November, MCHS Key Club had one fundraiser and two community service events! On November 9th we helped prep and serve food at St. Mary’s Dining Room and since it was such a successful event, we decided as a club to make it a monthly affair! On the following week, our club collaborated with our school’s Sports Club and held our first-ever Volleyball tournament between the four classes. There we sold beverages and pizza to fundraise for Project Eliminate to send along with the money our members collected through trick-or-treating for UNICEF. Our last event before our Thanksgiving break was a two-day commitment to Stockton Emergency Food Bank’s Stuff the Bus food drive. On November 23rd and 24th our members stood in front of the Hammer Lane Food 4 Less and helped collect various food items that are essential to any Thanksgiving feast like Turkey, stuffing mix, cranberry sauce, etc. that would be donated to Stockton’s necessitous families. As the end of the year nears, we’re as excited than ever to continue our club’s active involvement within our community and are trying to squeeze in a few last-minute service events and fundraisers before, and maybe even during, our monthlong Winter break.will see our fellow grizzlies again.

McNair This month was full of community service events. We managed to volunteer at a Diwali Show which expressed Asian Indian Culture. We did Stuff the Bus for one weekend along with The Kennel Club Dog Show. Then around Thanksgiving we went to help at the Run and Walk Against Hunger event, and of course we also helped at our monthly event with Bread of Life. Once holiday season starts to come near an end we plan on focusing more on fundraising for PTP.

LODI

This month has been very fun for Lodi High’s Key Club! In the beginning of our month we participated with the Lodi High School band to volunteer at the annual Grape Bowl Classic, an event that gathers the best high school bands from our area to compete for trophies in different categories. Soon after that event we celebrated Key Club week and spread our spirit around the Lodi High School campus. We also counted our Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF donations and received enough money to save over 30 lives!! In the middle of our month we had a Kiwanis Takeover meeting and sold baked goods to the Kiwanis of Greater Lodi and made over $200 for our club. Lastly, at the end of our month we volunteered with the Kiwanis of Greater Lodi at the local Safeway foods in Lodi to hand out flyers encouraging buyers to buy a bag for “Help End Hunger”, a fundraiser for local food banks. We hope that the next month will be as eventful and fun as this one has!

Ben Holt Last month in December, we held a meeting to promote team bonding between the members of our club. We spent our time playing ice breakers and ate cookies during our last meeting, and it went well! Everybody had fun and felt relaxed from finals, and will soon look forward to service events!

Emily Thao | MCHS| Festival of Trees On December 7th, Middle College’s Key Club members volunteered at the Festival of Trees, which was held at Mickey Grove Zoo. We were all assigned to different stations and basically helped people who came. I was assigned to the children’s craft station. At the booth I was at, I helped children (who were extremely adorable and creative) make reindeer gift bags. There were other booths too, like making snow globes and fuzzy pencils. Even though it was freezing, my job was really fun. We all had a wonderful time!

One word to describe Stuff The Bus? Unforgettable! Volunteering with so many Key Clubbers and adults in order to help feed families in need couldn’t have been a better way to spend my day on. From holding up a sign while screaming my lungs out and dancing, to counting how much food that grocery shoppers donated to us, and how many turkeys were given to us for the upcoming Holiday. I never knew that volunteering for a few hours could help so many families get the needs that they deserve. It was my first time helping out this year and words can’t express how proud I was to help out all those families that aren’t able to spend Thanksgiving without the yummy food haha. Can’t wait to volunteer next year!

Zainab Baig | Lodi| Help End Hunger It was pretty fun to get hang out with other Key Clubbers while we stood outside for hours handing out flyers and collecting turkeys. We were rejected a lot but I think we made a big impact just by being there.

Eli Albarran | SECA| Bread of Life On Saturday, November 16, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, 27 members of SECA’s Key Club volunteered at the Bread of Life at Lifesong Church. For this event, we picked up trash around the perimeter of the church and helped distribute groceries among individual carts, and with these carts, we escorted the groceries to the vehicles of clients to which some of the members were assigned. With great flexibility, we, as a group, enjoyed our time helping, serving, and blessing others in need with the gift of groceries – just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday!
