My Key Club moment was at Fall Rally North 2019. It was my first big event that I attended. Most of d27n was crowded around one another with people from different divisions. There were little crowds of people cheering and screaming. I was in the back near the grass and I was with some people from Ben Holt and other schools. We were taking pictures with a spirt stick and hyping each other up, as we should. We all moved together to the rally and that was when everything went in slow motion. It sounds super cheesy but when everyone was chanting together I felt so at home. It was a really positive experience where I could meet so many more wonderful people. I realized that Key Club was more than something for my college applications or a club I only went to because of my friends. It was a family and community that helped people be better and I really wanted to be apart of that. I'm glad I found another family through Key Club.

The first ever Key Club event I went to was Splash into Service. I have heard about Key Club before hand, but I was skeptical about it because it seemed like this club just hung out and didn’t do anything to help the community lol. Going to my first Key Club event really made me see that I was wrong about my assumptions. At Splash into Service we started doing ice breakers and then moved into service. When we started doing service, I saw members at every station working hard and most importantly enjoying what they did. This is by far my favorite moment in Key Club because it gave me a great first impression on what Key Club was and got me interested in seeing more of Key Club.

key club moment

Hi! I’m Anesthesia Thao and I serve as Cesar Chavez Key Club secretary. My Key Club moments are really special to me because I get to meet new people, make new friends, and also get in some service hours! As for me, I love to help out my community or just helping out in general. For the past two years that I’ve been in Key Club, it has been a truly amazing experience! All of the service events that I have been to are all great key club moments for me and I don't have a favorite key club moments because every moment to me is special! If I had one it would definitely be FRN because everyone from our division is there and we get to cheer our hearts out! Thank you, Key Club for all these new opportunities in learning, helping, and giving out! Thank you for reading!

pie the dlt

Division 27 North held their November DCM on November 14th, 2020, from 3 PM to 4 PM. During this Division Council Meeting, our Lieutenant Governor reviewed the Old Business, New Business, and updates first before we transitioned into the long-awaited segment of the meeting: the pie-ing of the DLT and the LTG! In an effort to raise money for the Pediatric Trauma Program, members were encouraged to donate money to get the opportunity to see our DLT officers and Lieutenant Governor get pied live! For every dollar that was donated, that would be equivalent to one pie-ing for a DLT officer. For every ten dollars that were connected, our LTG would get pied with a REAL pie. It was very amusing to see our officers get pied for a great cause. All members who attended enjoyed the scenes unfold, and we raised an abundance of money for PTP which was amazing. Overall, this DCM was a great breather for all members because of the excitement. Thank you to the DLT and LTG for planning this unique fundraiser & DCM for us members!

adopt a park

On November 21st, St. Mary’s Key Club adopted Holiday Park, located right behind the school campus. The board members have been curating this plan for months nonstop, so it was very exciting news when the green light was given for this plan to move forward. This day consisted of cleaning the park in a socially distanced manner to follow COVID-19 guidelines. Key Club teamed up with other clubs on campus to bring together a handful of classmates ready to serve the community. Fellow classmates were picking up trash, chipping off old paint, and restoring tables and benches to bring life back into the park. “It was a great way to give back to our community all while staying safe” Key Club member Vince Magsayo says, “I am really looking forward to cleaning the park again later this year.”

among us interclub

For the month of November, Middle College, Bear Creek, and Cesar Chavez clubs gathered together to attend a short and sweet interclub with each other via Zoom. This event occurred on November 21st, 2020, from 5 PM to 6 PM. During this event, the presidents of each club first opened with a welcome statement before splitting all attendees into the groups that they signed up for. Once everyone was assigned to their desired Breakout Room, the rounds of the game Among Us commenced! This interclub really helped members of each club interact and bond. The objective of the Among Us game had a concept similar to the structure of Mafia: during the game, each player was assigned a role of either a Crewmate or Impostor. The setting took place on a shuttle/spaceship in space. As a Crewmate, your duty was to complete your assigned task in managing the shuttle/spaceship, stay alive from the Impostor(s), and work with other Crewmates in identifying the Impostor(s) of the ship. The role of the Impostor was to attack and sabotage Crewmates whilst concealing their true role. In my breakout room, it was filled with laughter as my co-members and I tried identifying the Impostor. This went on for about an hour, before the conclusion of the event took place. Overall, it was a great way for members to unwind and meet members from our D27N sister-clubs. Be sure to attend the next interclass available to get good laughs and meet new friends!

heavenly hands outreach and food pantry

On a bright and early morning, volunteers set off to help Heavenly Hands Outreach and Food Pantry, the first in-person volunteer opportunity since the pandemic began. The day consisted of going through packages of food and sorting them into different boxes. From sorting through boxes and boxes of Torani syrup to baby food and granola bars, it became worth it in the end. Each box would go to a different family who are less fortunate and would be able to get food for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Even during these times, we continued to have the thrive to give back to the community, all while maintaining social distancing and following COVID-19 guidelines!
