ltg remarks

Happy February, Grizzlies! I truly hope you enjoyed our first-ever joint service event with Pacific Circle K! Our PTP Crafting Day added just what I expected to our K-Family relationship. After all the planning and preparation, I have to say that watching members of different organizations and generations come together to contribute to an amazing cause was absolutely gratifying. I am so happy and so proud to be serving the strong, radiant force that is Division 27 North. And to express my love, I wrote another poem for you all: Roses are red, violets are blue, SAY HELLO TO YOUR SHINY NEW LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR-ELECT! As many of you are aware, Chris Cabana was elected to be your LTG and my successor for the 2014-2015 term. I have the utmost confidence that this individual is capable of continuing the Grizzly legacy and bringing this outstanding division to greater heights. Try to drop him/ her a congratulatory message, or if you weren’t able to at the January DCM, get to know Chris at our upcoming Movie Night! Time to get all snuggly with your Key Club ohana ;)

Happy HOLLAdays my fellow Grizzlies! December was a busy month for our Key Club and we started with a jampacked first weekend when our board and a few volunteers served beverages at our school’s Snow Ball on December 6th to start our fundraiser for District Convention 2014. On the 7th and 8th we collaborated with the other schools sponsored by El Dorado CLBU and volunteered at San Joaquin County Historical Society and Museum’s annual Festival of Trees working a myriad of jobs including helping with arts and crafts, bingo stamping, etc.. On the following weekend, a handful of our members visited a convalescent home and sang Christmas carols as a holiday treat for the residents. Lastly on two of the busiest days of the holiday shopping season, the 22nd and 23rd of December, our club held a gift wrapping fundraiser at Barnes and Noble and raised more than $500 for DCON! It was a great way to end 2013 and we’re beyond excited to see what 2014 has in store for our thriving club!

Carrie Huang | SECA Hello there, Grizzlies! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and winter break. In the month of December, the SECA Key Club was busy with service and fundraising. We volunteered at Lathrop’s Breakfast with Santa, Holiday Parade, and Treelighting Ceremony; Bread of Life; and the Emergency Food Bank of Stockton. Serving the community and giving back to those in need during the holidays was truly a rewarding experience. On the last week of school before winter break, we held a Krispy Kreme doughnuts fundraiser. It was a success; we made good profits and students enjoyed treating themselves to a delicious treat before and after each day of finals! I hope everyone has an amazing 2014 filled with new opportunities and experiences. I can’t wait to see you all at the next DCM!

Justine Do-Huynh | Bear Creek

Hi everyone! I hope you all have had a wonderful break and a happy holidays with your family! This month Bear Creek helped the Salvation Army through various events. One of the events that we were able to help with was bell ringing at the mall! We had multiple people sign up and ring bells in front of Dillard’s and greet people as they came in and out of the store. They were all very friendly and it was nice to see people give small donations to help. We also helped the Salvation Army on various days with the Angel Tree event. We were able to accept donations made to children who are less fortunate and we also informed those who did not know the mission of Angel Tree, which is where people can take name tags and give a child something off of their wish list. Bear Creek then helped the Salvation Army organize distribute these toys when Christmas came closer. Lastly, we helped at our school’s monthly adopt-a-space where we clean up and pull out weeds in out designated spots.

Giovanni Fernandez |Lodi In this past month the Lodi High Key Club has been trying to get in some good service and fun around the time of our school vacation. In the beginning of our month we started by volunteering with our local Kiwanis club in the city of Lodi’s annual Parade of Lights. We walked along the streets of Lodi cheering and dancing to entertain the spectators that came with their families to see all of the Christmas themed floats. Later in our month we volunteered with the World of Wonders science museum at their family night where tons of children came inside the museum for tours provided by our own volunteers. We will continue to work on getting great service projects and ending our Key Club year off swimmingly!

Emybeth Pascual | Ben Holt On January 7, 2014, Ben Holt Key Club had it’s first Kiwanis Club takeover for the Stockton Kiwanis! We raised $77, and ran it while SECA attended. Also, we are currently in the works of planning future service events.

club up Angie Molina | Tokay Happy New Year Grizzlies! For this past month, we were able to have a fundraiser. At our school, we have a winter festival, which is when clubs are allowed to bring off campus food on campus and sell them during lunch for a profit. We sold chow mein and the event was successful. We hope to use the money we made for DCON. Also, we helped out with the Bread for Life in Lodi. We helped pack and organize groceries while some of us helped pass out the groceries to people who needed it. We’re set to help out Kiwanis of Greater Lodi with their annual Crab Feed. We are definitely looking forward to serving our sponsoring Kiwanis. With DCON coming up, we are currently planning our trip to spend the weekend enriching our knowledge and getting to know more key clubbers.

Alexander Moran | McNair

This past month has been a pretty slow month, due to the fact that it’s the holidays and everyone has their plans. We helped out at Bread of Life in Lodi this month and also helped a fellow club raise money for the Typhoon in the Philippines. This next month I plan on getting back up with our service events along along with preparing our fundraiser for February. Other than what I previously stated, we had a casual month off for people to do there own thing.

pdates Celine Deleon | Lincoln Hello Grizzlies! On December 13, we volunteered at the Claudia Landeen Movie Night. Our members helped out at the different food booths and collected tickets. On December 14, we sang Christmas carols with Kiwanis at senior living centers. It was great to put smiles on their faces and spread holiday cheer! Over the winter break, we volunteered at the St. Mary’s Dining Hall as dining room servers. We also helped out in the kitchen; we made sandwiches and prepared the breakfast items. Happy New Year!

The World of Wonders museum was a cool place to volunteer because we were able to help people while getting to experience all of their fun exhibits. The kids that were there were really interested in the exhibits and respected what we had to say. It was exciting to see that so many little children were interested in the same things that we are at such an early age.

Bea Saptang | SECA | Bread of Life It was just only a few days before Christmas, on December 21, when SECA’s Key Clubbers volunteered for the Bread of Life at Life Song Church. Even though we did have the benefits of making and transferring food bags, it was also a great time to interact with other people, such as fellow volunteers in the community. Thinking that it was just another day of taking initiative, I soon realized as I was doing my job that I had an ineffable fervor and I didn’t even know why. I can, however, describe that volunteering for the Bread of Life was more than different−it was truly life changing. I can’t wait to volunteer again next time.

AJ Medrano | McNair| Movie Night The movie night was a pretty slow event, in my opinion. Personally, I’ve actually never watched the Nightmare Before Christmas, and it is an amazing movie. Watching it now makes me feel like I missed a part of my childhood. At the same time, it also feels like it wouldn’t be a child movie, but Tim Burton is an amazing director either way. The movie night felt pretty cool, since it also happened to be almost Christmas at the time, and I think it’s an amazing way to raise donations and show people some good movies.

“ service never stops” Melanie Son | MCHS| Gift Wrapping Volunteering at the Barnes & Noble Giftwrapping Fundraiser on December 23 was truly a memorable experience that I’ll always cherish. Volunteers were gift wrapping presents for FREE to those who purchased a gift in the mall. Of course, donations were more than welcomed. The first shift was not as busy as the second, but it was still filled with a lot of work. The second shift was beyond what I expected. The line of customers kept growing as time went by. What contributed to the chaos were the presents that we were supposed to wrap. Turns out that wrapping presents isn’t the easiest thing in the world! The octagon, triangle, and deformed shapes were the biggest challenge for us. Despite all the hectic aspects, I thought the event was satisfying and fulfilling. The purpose of helping others gave me those warm, Christmas feelings!
